Introduction:
King Of The Monsters was released on NEOGEO back in 1991 by SNK, and has been ported directly to the Xbox One by our new best friends over at the bizarrely named Hamster Corporation. A mixture of fighting and wrestling, you choose one of six monsters and battle in cities until one of you pins the other for a three count, earning bonus points for destruction of the landscape. This is one of the trickier ports so far, needing a fair bit of practice to get a few of the achievements. You only need to play each game mode once, but depending on luck and how fast you get used to the controls, may take few more tries.

Step 1 - Original Mode
Start up in original mode. You can change the settings to make things easier for yourself by pressing and changing the difficulty to 1. Your score will not carry over if you continue, and you only have one life, so you will likely have to practice a bit to get all of the achievements. You can use the save states so you can retry if you get beaten, see the guide for how to do this. Play until you have all of the point achievements. Once you have them, let yourself get beat and unlock the two high score achievements if you don't have them yet. 5 achievements for 420.

Step 2 - Hi-Score Mode
In Hi-Score Mode, you have to test yourself against the computer at level 4 difficulty. There are no easy solutions for this, you just need to get good at the game. All the characters are as strong as the others, so pick whichever character you like. Once you have the score related achievements, let yourself get beat and upload your score for the related achievement. 4 achievements for 340.

Step 3 - Caravan Mode
Rinse and repeat what you did in step 2, this time in Caravan mode. As well as not being able to change the difficulty, you have only 5 minutes to get the high scores. Try to cause as much destruction as you can in the first fight, this should set you up to beat the second guy fast, giving you the full points needed. Once you have the score related achievements, you can simply quit out. 3 achievements for 240.

Conclusion:
This is one of the tougher ports so far, twinned with the fact it just isn't a very good game. Most of the achievements are easily within reach, but the last few may take a few hours of practice if you can stomach it.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings.

Play the game on Original mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. The lowest score is really low, you probably have to beat the first 2 or 3 guys only for this. The game will ask you if you want to upload your high score. Press and your achievement will pop. This must be against the AI not a second controller.

  • High score has been updated.

Play the game on any mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. The lowest score is really low, you probably have to beat the first 2 or 3 guys only for this.

  • The score won 150,000 points.

Refer to "Score 200,000 points" for more information.

  • The score won 200,000 points.

First of all, go into settings (press ), and change the difficulty down to one. You only get one life, but you gain a little health back after each fight, and the first four or five fights are pretty easy.

The key to getting high scores is destruction. The game gives you added bonuses for destroying the city. You will get small amounts of score for trampling on buildings, but destroying the larger ones will give you between 500-1000 points each. You automatically face your opponent, and can only punch/kick in that direction, so have to get your opponent on the correct side to attack the buildings. Wierdly, if you throw your opponent through the buildings, you get no points, but if you get thrown through them you still get them. Your end of level bonus is dependant on the desctruction caused, so in the earlier fights where you can, crush and smash what you can!

For your first few opponents, focus on throwing them by pressing / + mash or / + mash , every throw you land will give you an upgrade point. Smash as many buildings as you can before the level ends, and make sure you pin them at least once before you end the level; the AI will automatically kick out of your first (and sometimes second) attempt.

The fights start getting a little tougher as you go on, so it is advisable in Original mode (the only mode that you can do this) to use the save state system before every fight. You do this by hitting
and hitting "Create Interrupt Save Data". If you die, exit to the title screen and go into Original mode again and retry.

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings in the "HI SCORE MODE".

Play the game on Hi-Score mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. You will probably be eligible for the board by getting 20k, which you should easily surpass in the first fight. The game will ask you if you want to upload your high score. Press and your achievement will pop.

  • HI SCORE MODE 80,000 points.

Getting to 80k in Hi Score mode can be pretty tough as the difficulty is stuck on 4. The first guy is still pretty easy, so use the tips for "Score 200,000 points" for the first guy. The next fights you should look at defeating your enemy as soon as possible, as the bonuses you get as you fight naturally should be enough. You need to focus on the fight, as the opponents are much tougher and you can be easily beaten if you don't have health left over from the first fight. Concentrate on throws, and dashes () to take them down. Pin them when you can as they are tough to even get on the floor!

  • CARAVAN MODE 10,000 points.

  • CARAVAN MODE 30,000 points.

  • CARAVAN MODE 50,000 points.

Getting to 50k in high score mode can be pretty tough as the difficulty is stuck on 4. The first guy is still pretty easy, so use the tips for "Score 200,000 points" for the first guy. The next fight (you should only need/have time for two fights), you should look at defeating your enemy as soon as possible, as the bonuses you get as you fight naturally should be enough. You need to focus on the fight, as he is much tougher and you can be easily beaten if you don't have health left over from the first fight. Concentrate on throws, and dashes () to take him down. Pin them when you can as they are tough to even get on the floor! If you don't have 50k from the first two fights, you should have enough time to destroy a few buildings on the third fight to put you over.
