Introduction:
Alpha Mission II was released on NEOGEO back in 1992 by SNK, and has been ported directly to the Xbox One by our new best friends over at the bizarrely named Hamster Corporation. As with most of the other games so far released in the ACA series, this side scrolling shoot 'em up is a pretty fast completion, requiring little skill to finish. You only need to play each game mode once, but depending on luck and how fast you get learn the enemies patterns and game mechanics, may take few more tries.

Step 1 - Original Mode
Start up in original mode. You can change the settings to make things easier for yourself by pressing  and changing the difficulty to 1, and changing the number of players to as high as you like. You can go as high as 99, but chose how ever many you feel may be necessary Play until you have all of the point achievements, getting to grips with the game as you go. Once you have them, let yourself get beat and unlock the two high score achievements. 5 achievements for 420.

Step 2 - Hi-Score Mode
In Hi-Score Mode, you have to test yourself against the computer at level 4 difficulty, with only three lives to play with. The trick to getting to a high score is to learn where the enemies come and where the powerups are, and how to use them. Concentrate on your ship and incoming bullets and ships, not necessarily what you are aiming at. For more in depth advice, see the guide. Once you have the score related achievements, let yourself get beat and upload your score for the related achievement. 4 achievements for 340.

Step 3 - Caravan Mode
Rinse and repeat what you did in step 2, this time in Caravan mode. As well as not being able to change the difficulty and having only three lives, you have only 5 minutes to get the high scores. However, this should be plenty of time in this game, using the same tactics as Hi Score mode. Once you have the score related achievements, you can simply quit out. 3 achievements for 240

Conclusion:
This is a great old school side scrolling shooter, which is a classic "one more try" type of game. With a little practice, the achievements should come pretty fast. If you don't mind the price point for not much bang for your buck, and appreciate an easy 1000, then this game comes highly recommended!

There are 12 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings.

Play the game on Original mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. The lowest score is really low, you can probably get there just by completing the first level of the game. The game will ask you if you want to upload your high score. Press  and your achievement will pop.

  • High score has been updated.

Play the game on any mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. The lowest score is really low, you probably just have to beat the first level.

  • The score won 200,000 points.

  • The score won 300,000 points.

Go into settings () and change the difficulty to level 1 and give yourself a bunch of extra players. You can go and give yourself 99, go with whatever you feel comfortable with. Most regular enemies give 300 or so points, so even killing a few enemies before dying will still see you get the points by the time you run out of lives. If you are good and finish the game before getting all the points achievements, you can continue and start at the beginning again keeping your points. Play through the game until you have enough points. Then you can either quit out (however you can't get the leaderboard achievements if you do this) or lose all of your lives.

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings in the "HI SCORE MODE".

Play the game on Hi-Score mode, with any settings, and set a high score. When you get to the game over screen, as long as you get on the high score board, you will get this. The lowest score is isn't too high, and you will surpass when going for the other achievements. The game will ask you if you want to upload your high score. Press  and your achievement will pop.

Hi Score mode requires you to hit these points totals on difficulty level 4 with only three lives. This can seem quite daunting but once you get the hang of it and learn where the enemies and powerups are, it isn't so bad. Concentrate on dodging bullets and ships primarily, and pick up powerups when and where you can.

You need to be constantly firing your weapon with  (tap, not hold) and shoot everything you see. Killing every enemy in a wave will often give you a power up, so collect them if you can, it will make your life a lot easier!

    Level 1
Play through the first part of the level, picking up as many powerups as possible you will just have a few basic waves of enemies that don't fire, they just fly at you. You will get a big guy that appears from the back of the screen rather than the side, this guy will take quite a few hits and fire green orbs at you, but you can shoot the orbs down and he goes down quite easily.

You will get to a tunnel section, where enemies will appear out of thin air. You will see a glow where they are going to appear. Once solid, they will fly straight at you. Your safest way to get these guys is to spin around with your left stick/d-pad whilst firing. You should take a few of them out instantly, leaving gaps to fly in to dodge and take the others out.

    Mid Boss
The mid boss on this level is a huge tank, that drives along the bottom. He will fire bullets at you, which you need to dodge, and there are also other enemies around that you need to deal with. This can get a bit hairy and can take some practice to get your dodging and movement right, but hit him with some charged shots (hold then release ) and he should go down pretty easily.

A few more easy enemies, then you will face the guy from before the tunnel again (same tactics), before reaching the end boss.

    Level 1 boss
This guy isn't too hard, you just need to know where to hit him. First of all, stick to the very left of the screen, as if you touch him you will die, and he will also charge attack you. His weak spot is his big gun at the bottom, which has a sort of eye-lid that opens up. Hit that with all you have, making sure you dodge his projectile. After this, he will charge you and then repeat his big gun attack. Do the same. After this, he will shower a load of projectiles at you which you can destroy, so head to the bottom of the screen and you should take them out. He will again repeat the cycle again, and once you hit his big gun the fourth time, he should die. There may be a pesky enemy that will try and get you, if he comes, hit him with a charged shot. You should have around 50k once you beat the level and get the level bonus.

    Level 2
This level starts fairly slowly, a bunch of easy enemies dropping powerups for you. Pick up what you can. You will then have a couple of snake like enemies, which aren't too bad. Aim at the head with some charged shots, should maybe take one or two shots to go down. Just make sure you stay away from the tail!
After this section, there are some serious points to get. You can get up 10k from the next bunch of enemies, just shoot everything you can see, there are no projectiles to dodge.
The next section has many, many turrets firing bullets at you, it's just a matter of dodging them all. You have two options; die and repeat the easy section a couple of times to get you past 80k, or dodge all the bullets and try to make it to the end boss - either way should get you past the 80k threshold.
