Introduction:
Welcome to Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, another head-to-head fighting game in the Fatal Fury series, with many characters you'll be familiar with from other games. As far as achievements go, it's your typical NEOGEO fare. There isn't strictly one move to spam your way through this game, but there is still a reliable method for getting all achievements pretty quickly and painlessly. Let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
The general strategy for all three game modes is the same, and can theoretically be done with different characters, but I will explain with the character I used.

Pick Franco Bash (bottom middle) as your character, and pick Cheng (lower right corner) as the AI opponent. Cheng seems to be the most passive character, making it relatively easy to get perfect rounds against him. There are two main attack patterns you're going to use/rely on. The first is just a standing kick (), which has quite a bit of range and is particularly good against the first two opponents, in terms of doing damage and keeping them away from you. The second is a common attack pattern from many fighting games: jump kick (), making sure to actually kick on the way down so you connect, and then immediately crouch and kick. As soon as the crouched kick connects, whether the opponent blocked or not, immediately jump up and repeat. Once you get used to it, you can time it such that you're striking with your next jump kick as soon as the opponent gets up off the ground. Repeat this attack pattern over and over to defeat your opponents until you reach the scores in each mode. In Original and Hi Score modes, after you reach the required scores, let yourself get beaten and then choose to upload your score to unlock the remaining achievements.

That's the general strategy for all three game modes, but refer to the guide below for more specific tips for each mode beyond just the attacks mentioned above. Once you reach the required scores in all three modes, and upload your score in Original and Hi Score modes, you'll wrap up this completion.

Conclusion:
Despite not having a single move to spam to get through this game, the strategy outlined is surprisingly reliable, making this a relatively quick and easy NEOGEO fighting game. Do your best not to get frustrated by some of the cheap enemy attacks, and within a few attempts you should be successful in each mode.

There are 12 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings.

After completing a session in Original Mode, either by beating the game or losing and not continuing, you will be prompted to upload your score to the online leaderboard. Choose to do so, and this achievement will unlock.

  • High score has been updated.

After completing a session in Original Mode, either by beating the game or after losing and not continuing, if you scored high enough you'll be prompted to enter your initials for the local leaderboard. This will come naturally while obtaining the score achievements below for Original Mode.

  • The score won 100,000 points.

Refer to the "Score 500,000 points" achievement solution for more information.

  • The score won 300,000 points.

For those new to NEOGEO games, there are two important things to take advantage of in Original Mode. The first is by pausing the game after starting a session, and selecting Game Options. Set the time limit to the maximum (99) and the difficulty to the lowest (1). This will make all the fights as easy as possible. The second thing is the save system. At any point during Original Mode, you can pause the game and choose Create Interrupt Save Data to create a save state exactly where you're at. This can be exploited to ensure you never lose and get good scores on each fight. If you aren't doing well or if you lose, pause the game, choose Return To Title Screen, and then choose Original Mode to be right back where you saved your game, and try again.

As for strategy, it's the same as that outlined in the roadmap. Choose Franco Bash as your character, since he has good reach and does good damage. Choose Cheng as your first opponent, since he's the most passive and therefore easiest to get two perfect victories against. The most reliable combination of attacks to use is to jump kick him ( in the air) and then immediately after you land, crouch and kick on the ground. This one-two combo will almost always connect with Cheng, and you'll defeat him very quickly. Every couple of successful hits, you can pause the game and create a save state, reloading if you get hit. Exploit save states to ensure you get two perfect victories on Cheng, and you'll be over 100,000 just from this first match.

For the rest of the matches, use the exact same attack strategy. Don't worry about perfect victories. It's still viable on the second fight for sure, and maybe a couple others, but just progressing through the fights should get you to the 500,000 points by the seventh or eighth fight. Again, if you do poorly on any fights, feel free to reload your save. It should go without saying, but you should also be saving after every round of every fight so you never lose much progress. If need be, you could even save after every successful hit during later fights, although this likely won't be necessary.

  • The score has been posted to the online rankings in the "HI SCORE MODE".

After completing a session in Hi Score Mode, either by beating the game or losing and not continuing, you will be prompted to upload your score to the online leaderboard. Choose to do so, and this achievement will unlock.

  • HI SCORE MODE 100,000 points.

Refer to the "HI SCORE MODE 300,000 points" achievement solution for more information.

  • HI SCORE MODE 200,000 points.

Refer to the "HI SCORE MODE 300,000 points" achievement solution for more information.

  • HI SCORE MODE 300,000 points.

The difference between Hi Score Mode and Original Mode is that here, you can't change the game settings and you can't use save states. So you're going to have to go against the AI on the standard difficulty level, and without saving.

The strategy for Hi Score Mode is otherwise identical to that of Original Mode: choose Franco Bash as your character, and choose Cheng as your opponent. For this mode, it's in your best interest to get at least one perfect victory against Cheng. Two is obviously ideal, but I don't recommend continually restarting if you get hit. The first two or three fights aren't difficult, and as long as you stick to your jump kicks and low kicks, you shouldn't have any problems winning the fights. By the end of your third fight you may even unlock all the related score achievements. If not, or if you get paired against Laurence or Billy Kane, that's when you need to be very careful. One of these two opponents will show up by your fourth fight at the latest, and either can very quickly ruin your run. Billy Kane in particular has a flaming staff attack that does an absolutely absurd amount of damage to you. For either opponent, it's very important to stay as aggressive as possible. Jump in and attack continually. Putting distance between you and the opponent is going to get you killed. Just focus on beating them. If you can defeat Billy or Laurence, you'll have no problem getting the scores required.

  • CARAVAN MODE 100,000 points.

Refer to the "CARAVAN MODE 200,000 points" achievement solution for more information.

  • CARAVAN MODE 150,000 points.

Refer to the "CARAVAN MODE 200,000 points" achievement solution for more information.

  • CARAVAN MODE 200,000 points.

Caravan Mode works the same as Hi Score Mode except with the addition of a 5-minute time limit. Even so, the strategy here is identical to that described above for Hi Score Mode. If you do really well against Cheng, it's possible to finish the Caravan achievements by the end of your second fight. If not, don't worry, because there is more than enough time to finish the first three fights, and as long as you stick to jump kicks and low kicks, you should easily do well enough against the first 2-3 opponents to reach the required score in time.
