Introduction:
Welcome to Greece! Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set during the Peloponnesian war that took place between Athens and Sparta. You take on the role of a Misthios or Mercenary and can take part in the war from either side, though you are a Spartan by birth. During Assassin's Creed Odyssey you will embark on everything from killing bandits to large scale battles to hunting down and defeating the eight labours of Hercules and bringing down a secretive cult.
There is only one potentially missable achievement, "Aphrodite's Embrace" and you can only really miss it if you tried to do so. Please see its description in the guide below for further details.
Step 1: Playthrough #1
First thing's first, start the game. You can choose to play as either Alexios or his sister Kassandra, but it makes little difference; the game remains the same either way. There are plenty of questlines to follow and miscellaneous achievements to unlock so check their descriptions in the guide to unlock them as you see fit. Be mindful during the beginning of the game and try to recruit as many characters for your ship as you can. You will need four Legendary characters for the "The Argonauts" achievement.
There are several achievements tied to quests and quest progression, as well as a decent amount of miscellaneous achievements. There are also questlines that are not tied to the main story that you need to go and find yourself. Please see their descriptions below for locations and details. Luckily, none of these questlines are missable and some can be done, and others need to be done, after completing the main quest.
It's also worth mentioning that you need to unlock the third tier of a skill for "Godly Power" and you need to unlock two specific skills for "I have the Power." You will find skill points in abundance as you level up and you are given extra skill points for finding 'Ancient Stele's' that are found in ancient tombs around Greece. You can also buy a map from the store that has the locations of them all, if you so choose.
Step 2: Mop-up
You will likely obtain most, if not all of the miscellaneous achievements without too much thought during your playthrough. It's likely, however, that you will still need to unlock "Lord of the Seas" and "Hermes's Homie," which are obtained by fully upgrading your ship and unveiling all of the map. Both of these achievements will take you the majority of the game to chip away at as you play it.
Additionally, you will most likely have "The Cult Unmasked" and "Demigod" left over, too. You will need to find and kill all of the cultists and reach level 50 for these two achievements, respectively. In order to reach level 50, finish as many side quests and miscellaneous activities, complete all of the Odyssey quests and kill all of the cultists, reach the top mercenary position and become the champion of the arena, and find/beat all of the Legendary creatures. It's worth noting that the late-game quests offer the most XP, so don't bother grinding out your level until post-game, if needed.
Lost Tales of Greece: The Show Must Go On DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this DLC, head to the region of Elis and look for the side mission called 'Setting the Stage.' You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. This DLC adds a small questline where you eventually play the part of Leonidas in a stage play. It's of course not as simple as it sounds and you have to follow a series of quests to prepare for the play. They are all linear and can be done within an hour. "The Show Must Go On" is very quick and easy and is just more of the same kind of questline you will have done in the main game.
Lost Tales of Greece: Divine Intervention DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Divine Intervention is the latest of the Lost Tales of Greece updates for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and introduces a short questline. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. To access this questline travel to 'Kraneion Plains' in the region of Korinth to find the side quest 'Test of Judgement' and speak to the Mysterious Woman to begin it. There then follows three short quests that are all linear and easy to follow.
Lost Tales of Greece: The Image of Faith DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To start this DLC, travel to the region of Elis and look for the mission 'The Measure of a Man' and begin it to start this questline. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. This is much the same as the previous two Lost Tales of Greece DLCs and has a short, linear questline to follow consisting of six short quests.
Lost Tales of Greece: The Daughters of Lalaia DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough
To start this DLC, travel to the region of Phokis and look for the mission 'A Gathering Storm'. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. The same applies here as the previous entries for these DLC's, it is a short series of linear quests that should take no more than an hour. You are tasked with helping the women of Lalaia in defending themselves against an attack from the Sons of Xerxes. You basically go through a short series of quests to shore up their defenses and then help them defend the town.
Lost Tales of Greece: A Poet's Legacy DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this DLC, head to the region of Mount Helikon in Boeotia and speak to Alkibiades to begin the first quest 'Praxilla's Admirer'. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. This is yet another short questline where you simply perform a few short quests at the behest of Praxilla, an old Bard.
Lost Tales of Greece: A Brother's Seduction DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To start this DLC, head to the Isthmus of Poseidon region of Korinthia and pick up the quest 'Prodigal Son's Return'. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. This is the same situation as all of the previous Lost Tales of Greece episodes and is a short series of linear quests.
Lost Tales of Greece: A Friend Worth Dying For DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this DLC, head to Skyros Island and start the quest 'Odyssey into the Past'. You'll need to have begun episode five of the main game in order for this quest to become available. For this DLC you must help your trusty companion Barnabos to find his long lost wife. This is much the same as the previous Lost Tales of Greece episodes; a short linear questline taking no more than an hour to complete.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To start this DLC, the quest 'The Heir of Memories' will be given to you automatically as you load into the game. You will then have to follow a short quest line that takes you back and forth between the ancient Greek world and the modern world.
To be able to start this questline, you will first need to complete the entire 'Fate of Atlantis' questline visible in your journal. The game will prompt you to complete the 'Between Two Worlds' questline, but in your journal the Atlantis quests are under the 'Fate of Atlantis' header. This questline entails discovering Atlantis, tracking down the four artifacts from the four mythological beasts, and then returning the artifacts to Atlantis. Once all of that is complete, you'll be able to start this quest, despite it being in your quest log immediately.
Lost Tales of Greece: One Really, Really Bad Day DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this short questline, head to the blue quest marker in the White Crystal Hills area of Lokris to begin with the quest 'Righting a Wrong'. This short questline is as the preceding Lost Tales of Greece episodes: a short series of linear quests that can be done in under an hour.
Lost Tales of Greece: Every Story Has an Ending DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this questline go to the Adrestia and speak to Herodotos and start the quest 'Letter from Home'. This DLC follows the same premise as the previous episodes: a short questline that can be done in around an hour.
Lost Tales of Greece: Old Flames Burn Brighter DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To begin this questline go to the Forest of Soron area of Arkadia and speak to Anais to start the quest 'Where We Left Off'. This DLC, as can be expected, is a short series of quests that will take no more than an hour to complete.
The Lightning Bringer DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Added in this title update is Steropes the Lightning Bringer and he is another Cyclops almost exactly like the one from the main game, so if you've done that you know what to expect. You will need to be around level 45+ for this DLC. Steropes is an easy fight and almost the same as the Cyclops fight in the main game.
The Bright One DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
When you load up your game after this title update has gone live you will be given the quest 'The Bright One' which will guide you exactly to the place you need to go to to fight Arges. You'll need to be at least level 45 to challenge him. This Cyclops is almost the same as the other two Cyclopes and is as easy a fight as them, especially on the easiest difficulty.
Legacy of the First Blade, Episode 1: Hunted DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To start this DLC, head to the Triple Peninsula of Chalkidike in the Makedonia region and the quest 'The Horsemen Cometh' will activate to set you on the path to complete the DLC. You'll need to have completed episode seven of the main game in order for this quest to become available, and be at least level 28 to play it. This DLC has a somewhat short story-line akin toward a shorter version of the main game's Odyssey. You are to take down another branch of a cult, much the same as the main game. The achievements are straight forward and nothing can be missed so play at your leisure. You will unlock "The Start of a Legacy" through natural play but the other achievements all require you to go ever so slightly out of your way. Refer to their descriptions below for further details.
Legacy of the First Blade, Episode 2: Shadow Heritage DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
The quest 'Stranger Tides' will trigger as you load into your game after downloading the DLC. You'll need to have completed episode seven of the main game in order for this quest to become available, and be at least level 28 to play it. This DLC is a short series of quests with some miscellaneous achievements and the obligatory 'kill all cultists' achievement. Just playing through will earn you "Growing Up". As you're playing when in fights or naval combat you will want to use the new ability 'Rapid Fire' to unlock "Rain of Arrows" and to set ships on fire to unlock "Fire on Water". These 2 achievements may not be done throughout the short main quest, but you can finish them on any enemies that you find if you need to quickly grind them out after completing it.
The other miscellaneous achievement "Parry to Carry" can only be attempted after defeating the main antagonist so will need to be done outside of the main quest. Then finally you need to find and kill the Ancients in the Order of the Storm to unlock "Stormculler". You will kill two of them during the main quest but then need to track down the remaining three on your own. Refer to the achievement description below for details.
Legacy of the First Blade, Episode 3: Bloodline DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
When you load the game up after installing this DLC, you will have a new quest added to your journal called 'The Simple Life'. Begin this to start the questline. You'll need to have completed episode seven of the main game in order for this quest to become available, and be at least level 28 to play it.
This DLC is yet another short questline following along with the story of the previous two episodes of the Legacy of the First Blade DLCs. There is one story related achievement, "Bittersweet Beginnings" and four miscellaneous achievements, however none are missable. Refer to their descriptions below for details.
The Fate of Atlantis, Episode 1: Fields of Elysium DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
You begin this DLC by travelling to the 'Gateway to the Lost City' in the 'Caldera of Fate' region of the 'Volcanic Islands'. Upon arrival the quest 'The Isu beckon' will be given to you to start the questline.
The Fields of Elysium will take you to the Greek underworld to fight the forces of Persephone and attempt to unlock the power of the staff of Hermes Trismegistus that you obtained originally from Pythagoras.
The achievements are largely straightforward, if a little tedious. Nothing is difficult but there is one missable achievement, "The Conqueror", so see its description for details. I would recommend just playing the main story and not worrying too much about the miscellaneous achievements initially or you will be doubling up on the time spent here, as you will travel to many of the required locations during the many quests throughout.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
The second episode of 'The Fate of Atlantis' see's you continue from the cliff edge ending of episode 1, where you are forced into a fight for your life against the guardian of the underworld, who after defeating, will grant you access to the area.
The achievements are all straightforward, though they will require some effort. "Bad Dog!" and "A True Ruler" are both story related and cannot be missed. The remaining achievements can be worked on at your leisure and you will make progress on them while playing through the DLC; you shouldn't try to grind them out straight away.
The Fate of Atlantis, Episode 3: Judgment of Atlantis DLC
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
The third and final installment of The Fate of Atlantis see's you act as Poseidon's 'Dikastes'. You are tasked with restoring order to the world of Atlantis in Poseidon's name and as such see yourself at the beck and call of his sons and various other characters throughout, all expecting much from you.
The achievements are all mostly straightforward but require some exploring and a little combat. Nothing can be missed, however, so do as you wish at your own pace. The achievement "Isu Bloodline" should not be specifically attempted as you will unlock progress towards it while exploring and discovering the few miscellaneous achievements, then if you still need to unlock it after finishing everything else you can spend some time on it then, so as to not waste any time unneccessarily.
Overall Conclusion:
Assassin's Creed Odyssey offers a somewhat enjoyable achievement list that encourages full world exploration at your own leisure, partaking in the vast array of interesting and fun side missions and questlines.
