Introduction:
Welcome to Baila Latino, a Kinect dance game where all the songs are, unsurprisingly, latin dance songs. There are 20 songs in the game, and even if you don't listen to latin music, you will likely recognize a few. It's a very simple and minimalistic game, with just the 20 songs to dance to and that's it. As far as difficulty, this is one of the easiest dance games I've played, requiring very little skill to unlock all skill-related achievements. Unfortunately, this game is pretty grindy. Let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
First off, don't be daunted by the sheer number of achievements. There are 20 songs, and each song has five achievements tied to it, for a total of 100 achievements:

  • Get three 'Perfect' ratings in a row
  • Earn 3 Flowers from points scored
  • Earn 5 Flowers from points scored
  • Play the song 5 times
  • Play the song 10 times*
*For whatever reason, the second song, Lamento De Corazon, doesn't have an achievement for playing it 10 times. That's the only exception to this list. It's replaced with an 'Unlock all other achievements' achievement.

The second thing to note is how to even pick from all 20 songs. Five will be displayed along the bottom of the screen, and to actually scroll to the rest, use the controller to place the hand icon between and two song tiles, hold button-a.png to "grab" the bottom strip of songs, and then drag it left to see more songs. I suspect that this very unintuitive way of scrolling through the songs is why the achievements for the first five songs are common and the other 15 songs' achievements are rare. I personally tried every button on the controller before eventually figuring it out.

As you can probably tell from the above list of things to do, the rate-limiting step is going to be playing each song ten times. That's where the rather precise 18 hours estimate comes from. Even with zero dance skill going into this game, you'd be hard pressed to take more than ten attempts to get 5 Flowers on each song. While I do have a decent amount of experience with Kinect dance games, I got 5 Flowers on every song first try. Most songs are very simple, with only three or so providing any real challenge in terms of fast pacing and varied movements.

Speaking of Flowers, you get Flowers on a song for reaching certain point thresholds, and it seems that 150,000 points is the threshold for 5 Flowers on every song. I've found the relative difficulty to be all over the map on this, as some songs I finished with 450,000 points first try, and some I just barely cleared 150,000. Like any dance game, practice is really all you can do to improve, but since you need to play all songs 10 times (aside from the second song), you'll assuredly get 5 Flowers well before that.

Ranging from my experience to your own, you should be able to earn 5 Flowers on all songs somewhere in the range of two to four hours. I did them all first try and finished in around two hours. This unfortunately leaves you with quite the grind, as you now need to replay every song upwards of nine times to unlock the other achievements for it. The good news is that the achievements all track, so it's really quick and easy to see which songs you still need to play and how many more times. I'll leave it up to you if you want to actually dance to the songs that many times, or if you want to just mute your TV and idle it (especially so you don't have to listen to Macarena ten times in a row). Just be aware that the Kinect needs to keep you registered at all times or the game will pause. Once you're done playing all songs ten times, you'll be done with this completion,

Conclusion:
Baila Latino is a decent enough dance game. There are 20 songs, which is a good enough amount, but they're all quite simple. With no difficulty option to add complexity to the dances, it makes them all feel a bit repetitive, with not much reason to replay them, especially when they're mostly easy enough to get a top score first try. Hopefully you actually enjoy dancing, otherwise you'll be sitting in front of your Kinect for 15+ hours to grind out many achievements in this game.
