Introduction:
Welcome to my guide for Captain Cat, a puzzle game by Rendercode Games. You play as Captain Cat on his quest for food as you use a rope to skewer a fish/snail on 75 different levels. There is an endless mode as well but it isn’t needed for any achievements. The controls are simple: Hold to release the anchor to start. Once it stops, it will swing back and forth until you decide to press and hold
again. Be careful not to go to far! There is no way to go up, only left, right, and down. Collect the coins, avoid the obstacles, and skewer the fish or snail to complete each level and go on to become the greatest Captain Cat in all the seven seas.
As mentioned above, there are 75 different levels. There are 25 Waspfish and 25 Housekeeper levels that you must complete with three stars. Stars are based on collecting all gold coins, amount of rope knots used, and time spent completing the level. You can see what is needed for each level when it boots up, before you drop anchor for the first time. The biggest advice I can give is that all requirements for 3 stars do not have to be done at the same time. For example, you can spend all the time in the world safely collecting the coins, then replay the level a second time for both time and knots. Or you can even make three separate runs if you’d like. As long as you complete the three objectives at any time and complete the level, they will count.
Most of the achievements will come from completing the above 50 levels and watching out for miscellaneous achievements. The last 25 levels are part of Perfect Mode, which requires you to skewer the fish in a single rope anchor. However you’ll be pleased to know that you can just press to skip the first 24 levels, and then just complete level 25 in this mode. This will give you credit for the "Sniper Fish" achievement with minimal effort.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
Start by completing the 25 Waspfish levels with 3 stars. Most of these are easy and straightforward, and give you the lowdown on how to play the game. Remember that if you struggle, you can make separate runs for each star. I found it useful on some of the harder levels to get all of the coins first, then make a timed run using as little knots as possible. Keep an eye out for the "Kebab" achievement, as this can be done on a few levels in Waspfish. It is also worth mentioning that some levels have treasure chests. Collecting all of these give you a 2x bonus on score for that level. There is a cumulative achievement for earning 100,000 score, so I suggest trying to get these on every level until you are done with that achievement.
Next begin working on the 25 Housekeeper levels. These are more advanced levels, but most of them are still simple. You will also need to earn all 3 stars on each level here, just like Waspfish. There’s another miscellaneous achievement here: "Ride of the Valkyries." See the achievement guide for more information.
Lastly, you need to complete the 25th level of Perfect Mode. You can play all 25 if you please, or you can just skip the levels until you get to the final one and complete that one. It’s a bit tricky and took me a few tries but eventually I was able to skewer right through the urchins and nab my final achievement.
Mop-Up:
All levels can be selected from the main menu, making it easy to replay any levels you didn't get three stars on. You can also use this to get "Kebab" or "Ride of the Valkyries" if you missed it.
Conclusion:
Captain Cat is a fun puzzle game that is not getting a lot of buzz. Not very many people have played it on either Xbox or PS4. I suggest giving it a go. I enjoyed the gameplay and puzzle solving, especially on the later levels.
