Introduction:
Child of Light is a $15 digital game from Ubisoft. It is an action-platforming RPG with puzzle elements, complete with extra party members, side-quests, chests, skills, etc. It has turn-based combat and also features the beautiful Ubi Art Framework engine to create a very nice-looking title. Before starting, download the UPlay app from the store and attach or create a UPlay account; this is required for the one online achievement.

Playthrough:
Because the game is free-roam (even after you finish the main story), there are no missable achievements. Most of the achievements come from simple game progression, while a few will task you with performing specific battle actions, completing side-quests, crafting, and finding a handful of collectibles. At some point, you'll need to send an Oculi as a gift to someone on your friends list who has a connected UPlay account. Other than that, the achievements are very straight-forward for an RPG of this nature with only the few difficult battle-specific actions.

  • Ă“engus joins Aurora's party.

    Optional! (Chapter 8).

After he joins and leaves your party, speak with him once more to accept his plight. Complete it to have him join again and unlock the achievement.

  • Gen joins Aurora's party.

    Optional! (Chapter 9).

You will have to complete the puzzle on the east side of Piscean Village, defeat the giant mini-boss, and return to Gen's house in the village to unlock the achievement.

  • Tristis joins Aurora's party.

    Optional! (Chapter 7).

This unlocks right away upon meeting him. To find him, head to the top-left of the screen from Magna's hand through the spike paths. Exit to a new area through the bottom left and he will be near a cliff to the west.

  • Achieve level 10 with Aurora.

Story related and can not be missed. This will unlock about 20% through the game.

  • Upgrade a skill to its highest level.

Skill points are gained each time you level up, for all your characters. To fully upgrade a skill, you need to have completed Chapter 8 to unlock the 3-star skills. Once you purchase a 3-star skills of any type (for any character) on a skill tree, the achievement will unlock. To gain experience faster, equip a Diamond Oculi in your armor slot.

  • Craft Oculi.

To craft an oculi, you simply need to combine multiple stones to create a new, better type. You can increase the quality of each stone type by combining three together (3x Rough = Tumbled, 3x Tumbled = Faceted, 3x Faceted = Brilliant) and then combining the gems will increase their rarity:

    • Sapphire + Ruby = Amethyst
    • Sapphire + Emerald = Tourmaline
    • Ruby + Emerald = Citrine
    • Sapphire + Ruby + Emerald = Diamond
    • Amethyst + Tourmaline + Citrine = Onyx
    • Diamond + Onyx = Spinel

Oculi can be equipped to affect a weapon, armor, or your timeline. The top three types of each rarity will affect them in different ways.

    • Weapon: Increase speed (Diamond), Increase spell power (Onyx), Increase attack power (Spinel)
    • Armor: Increase XP gain (Diamond), Reduce damage at low HP (Onyx), Increase speed when interrupted (Spinel)
    • Timeline: Increase casting speed (Diamond), Increase dodge at low HP (Onyx), Begin battle ahead on timeline (Spinel)

In other words, a Brilliant Diamond will offer the best XP gains, while a Rough Diamond will offer the lowest. A full crafting guide can be found here.

  • Send Oculi to a friend.

From the pause menu, select "Oculi" and choose an item slot to view your available Oculi. Press X over an Oculi to show a list of your friends who have connected a UPlay account to their Xbox account by downloading the app and signing in (they do not have to have played Child of Light). Select a random person that shows up on the list in-game and confirm the gift and the achievement will unlock immediately.

For some reason, this will not work if you have more than 100 friends/followers on the Xbox One version. It seems UPlay gets confused and to get this to work you will need to block some followers or remove friends until you are under 100 people. Then you'll be able to populate a list and send a gift.

If you don't have anyone on your list, try the Trading Thread or Join/Create a Session.

  • Execute 3 Surprise Strikes.

Surprise attacks are initiated by first controlling Igniculus with the right control stick. Hover near an enemy and hold the left trigger until a light stuns the enemy. Now engage the enemy with Aurora to get the advantage at the beginning of the battle. Repeat two more times.

  • Interrupt 3 foes at the same time.

To interrupt multiple enemies at once, you must have an "(All)" skill unlocked (for example, [X]). These take longer to cast, so try to start the battle with a surprise attack to get ahead of the enemies. To unlock this achievement, you will need to wait until all three enemies are casting before using the attack, so if your turn comes up and onle 1/3 or 2/3 are casting, choose to defend. You can use Igniculus to slow down the enemy casting as well to help with the timing. Once all three enemies are casting and your "(All)" attack is ready, let it loose to unlock the achievement.

  • Devastate 5 foes.

A devastation will occur when you deal an extreme amount of damage to an enemy, above what would take their life down to zero. You'll likely have this within the first few chapters as you level and fight some of the weaker enemies in the game.

  • Win a battle against 3 dark creatures without losing any HP.

For this achievement, try to start the battle with a surprise attack, as well as using Igniculus to slow the enemies, and time your attacks for when they are casting to interrupt them. Fighting the rock enemies during Chapter 5 may be helpful here, as they tend to defend instead of attacking you.

  • Win a battle without Aurora.

Once Finn joins the part in Chapter 4, you will have the option during battle of choosing "Swap" to replace Aurora with Finn. The next battle you begin will not have Aurora present, and upon completion of that battle the achievement will unlock.

  • Find and open 30 trunks.

This will likely unlock without any extra exploration. There are hundreds of trunks to open throughout the game.

  • Collect 5 deposits of Stardust.

These will be rewarded from various boss-type battles during the game, as well as found hidden throughout the world. When used, one will permanently increase a certain stat.

Alternatively, you can visit the UPlay store and purchase two bundles of them for 50U to unlock the achievement immediately.

  • Collect all Confessions.

There are 16 total confessions (brown letters) in the game. GamesRadar has a great text and picture guide for them here that you can use to find all of them. You can also use these videos below if you prefer that type of guide:

Once collected, you can view them in the pause menu. They are numbered so you will know exactly which ones you have missed. The UPlay reward "Confessional" will mark the number of confessions in each area of the game. It will not show their locations or help you find them in any way, but it is helpful to know how many you have to find in each section.

The game is free-roam and you can return to any location you have previously visited (and many areas are inaccessible until you have certain abilities), so don't worry too much about getting everything the first time you pass through a location.

  • Finish the Lemurian Request: Achilles's Odyssey.

To begin this quest, speak with the girl smoking a pipe in Capilli Village. You can find her after exiting the well during Finn's mission (right after defeating the three-snake boss). Take a few steps to the right and hit X to return to the first section of the town and she will be on the right from there.

You will need to travel to Windwheels to find Achilles the Flying Pig (emit light with Igniculus to find the right one, which will have a marking on the side when lit up), then return to the quest giver to unlock the achievement.

  • Finish the Lemurian Request: Free Trade.

Adolphus in Town of the Bolmus Populi will give you this quest. You can find him in the middle of the tower on the left side of town the first time you arrive. He will give you an apple, and the trading chain to complete this quest is as follows:

    • Get the shovel from the Teacher at the school in Capilli Village.
    • Get the lantern from the Traveling Salesman at the Monastery.
    • Get the gold from the Miner at the bottom of the cave system near the Cliffs of Erin.

Return to the quest giver to unlock the achievement.

  • Finish 3 Lemurian Requests.

You need to complete at least two for other achievements, and many of these will be completed simply for getting party members to join, so this will be no problem to unlock early in the game.
