Introduction:
Cold Alley is an action flight simulator, whose campaign takes you on "unwritten covert operations" from history. For a Windows 8 game, it is nice to look at and offers a fair bit of content if you care to play it as intended. If you are reading this however, you are most likely looking at how to get the achievements. If you play it solely for achievements, be warned: 95% of your time will be spent grinding towards your 10,000 kills.

Step 1:
Start off by going to the tutorials to learn how to play the game. You only really need to know how to do the basics, as you won't really be playing the game all that much. Completing the first five tutorials will give you five achievements for 50.

Step 2:
Now you know how to control your plane and fire your guns, start up a Capture the Flag match on any map. Capture the enemy flag for "Flag Capture" and return your own for "Flag Return." Exit the game once you have both of these.

Step 3:
Now start up a Defend The Base match and go straight for the base to destroy it for "Enemy Base Destroy." Exit the game once you have it.

Step 4:
Now all you have left is the "x kills" achievements. Start up the campaign and get through the first mission. The second mission, you will be the gunner in a helicoptor and there are around 130 enemies to kill. Keep on playing this mission or segments of it (see the guide for more information) until you have your 10,000 kills to complete the game!

Conclusion:
Cold Alley is a decent game that is let down by a very disappointing achievement list. As an achievement hunter, I just wanted to get the game done as soon as possible, but with a more imaginative list I would have seen much more of the game. As it stands it is a very easy, but very dull completion unless you want to take much, much longer getting kills from dogfights.

This achievement may seem daunting at first glance, but the second level of the campaign has you in the gunner seat of a chopper, and all kills in this level count towards your total. The level takes four or five minutes to complete, and has around 130 enemies. It is quicker, however, to use the checkpoint saves to your advantage. When you see the save icon in the top right corner of the screen, the game is autosaving, so if you quit out of the level you can exit and resume from that point. Perhaps the best part to do this is after you kill the four boat enemies. You start in front of a settlement with 12 enemies, then go into a short cutscene (which you can fast forward by holding in the Enter key). Then you arrive at another settlement with 10 enemies, before moving round and killing another 22 enemies.

After killing the convoy of five or six vehicles (or leaving, depending on how fast you took out the enemies in the settlement you may have to wait), quit out and resume. This should take around 90 seconds including menus and loading. Rinse and repeat, and in around 5-6 hours you should have all of your kills!

  • Capture the enemy Flag in a CTF match

Go into a Capture The Flag match on any map. First get rid of your wingmen so they don't get in your way or capture the flag instead of you. You can see on your radar where the enemy flag is, so just make a bee-line for the flag. You don't have to capture the flag from the enemies base, you can shoot down whoever is holding it, or wait for somebody else to shoot them down and swoop down and get the flag. This is easily achievable with the base plane, but if you are having serious problems you can play some campaign to unlock faster and more agile planes. The achievement will unlock during the game, so you can just quit out once you have it.

  • Return your team's flag to your base in a CTF match

Go into a Capture The Flag match on any map. First get rid of your wingmen so they don't get in your way or return the flag instead of you. You can see on your radar where your enemy flag is, so fly around until the enemy steal it and make a bee-line for the guy stealing it. You can either shoot down whoever is holding it, or wait for somebody else to shoot them down and swoop down and get the flag. As soon as you touch the flag it will be returned to base. This is easily achievable with the base plane, but if you are having serious problems you can play some campaign to unlock faster and more agile planes. The achievement will unlock during the game, so you can just quit out once you have it.

  • Destroy the enemy base in a DTB match

Go into a Destroy the Base game on any map. From the start, you will see enemies on your radar. They are coming from their base, so fly towards them and soon you will see their base on your radar. All you have to do is destroy one of the target buildings in their base. You can hit it with your chain guns and/or your missiles and they go down pretty easily, after maybe 3 or 4 missiles. This is easily achievable with the base plane, but if you are having serious problems you can play some campaign to unlock faster and more agile planes. The achievement will unlock during the game, so you can just quit out once you have it.
