Introduction:
Set several months after the events of Dishonored 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider follows the assassin Billie Lurk throughout Karnaca and her plot to end the Outsider. With the help of Daud, Billie will scrounge the city to recover ancient artifacts in order to kill the black-eyed bastard and stop the chaos within the Empire. A narrative spanning five missions, DotO offers thirty achievements that cover varying degrees of lethality-based tasks, mission-specific feats, and the obtainment of one collectible set. There are five story-related achievements and two game-completion achievement based on how you deal with the Outsider. Two full playthroughs and twelve or more hours will see everything Dishonored: Death of the Outsider has to offer complete.
Playthrough #1 (Contracts, Miscellaneous Tasks, Mission-Specifics, & No Alerts):
The first playthrough of the game should aim to stack all of the mission-specific achievements, as well as contracts, miscellaneous tasks, and any and all non-lethal achievements. There are five story-related achievements you will unlock naturally as you progress through the campaign. At the end of the last mission, you will have the choice whether to kill or "save" the Outsider. Choose whichever ending you desire, knowing the former will yield "Deicide" while the latter will unlock "Final Release." Next, the non-lethal achievements you should focus on are "Shadow," which can be earned for completing the game without ever being detected, and "Agent of Mercy," which requires you to complete a single mission without killing anyone.
There are also a number of mission-specific achievements that you should work on throughout this playthrough. These are: "Golden Locks," "Nightingale," and "Public Shaming" in Mission 2; "Big-time Player," "Obsessive Safe-cracker," "The Perfect Crime," and "Party Crasher" in Mission 3; "The Face of the Abbey" and "Voices" in Mission 4; and "Harder than Stone" in Mission 5. Additionally, there are eight miscellaneous tasks worth attempting. These achievements involve the use of equipment and powers to best your enemies, such as pushing an enemy over a ledge with Void Strike, shooting a guard in the head with a fountain pen, having a guard salute you, and making an enemy explode with Displace.
Finally, in order to unlock "Mercenary Work," you will need to successfully complete all thirteen contracts in the game. The two contracts for the first mission can be accepted by interacting with their notice papers on Billie's workstation aboard the Dreadful Whale. The contracts for Missions 2, 3, and 4, however, can only be accepted at the Black Market in those missions.
NOTE: Some of the miscellaneous achievements will conflict with "Shadow," so be sure to make manual backup saves to revert back to once you have successfully unlocked an achievement.
Playthrough #2 (Original Game+ & Paintings):
With a bulk of the game's achievements done, this second playthrough can focus on an entirely different approach to combat while playing Original Game+. In this mode, which is only unlocked after completing the campaign, Billie's powers are replaced with Blink, Dark Vision, and Domino, therefore changing the core experience in how you deal with your enemies and objectives. Completing Original Game+ will unlock "Good Old Times." Make sure you choose the opposite fate of the Outsider in this playthrough, too (if you "saved" him in the first playthrough, kill him in this playthrough). You may have already dabbled in collectible hunting during the first playthrough, but if you ignored all the paintings, you can easily get them done in Original Game+, thus unlocking "Art Aficionado."
Conclusion:
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a welcomed standalone expansion to the series. Much like its predecessors, the world design and gameplay mechanics are both strong facets; even the narrative that spans the five missions is enough to hold some interest. The achievement list is varied, too, without being overly difficult. In as little as ten to twelve hours for two separate playthroughs, another Dishonored completion can be yours.
