Encounter a new enemy, the Firefly Trooper, and frag it with the new Incinerator weapon! New music from the game’s original composer, Lee Jackson, and new Duke Talk from the original voice of Duke Nukem, Jon St. John!” - from xbox.com

Cheat Codes:
This game has a cheat menu you can access by pressing , , clicking and pressing while in any level (this cannot be accessed if playing on the “Damn, I’m Good” difficulty). Best of all, if you use any of these cheats, they don’t disable achievements! What it disabled, however, is the Playback Feature that allows you to rewind a level in case you die or want to try something different.

The cheats available are:

  • God Mode (invulnerability)
  • Give All (gives you all weapons, ammo, inventory and keys for the current level)
  • All Weapons (acquired if you use ‘Give All’)
  • All Inventory (acquired if you use ‘Give All’)
  • All Keys (acquired if you use ‘Give All’)
  • Show Map (unlocks the entire map for the current level)
  • Show FPS (frames per second)
  • Level Select (lets you select a level without returning to the main menu)
  • No Clip (allows you to walk through walls, must be ‘Off’)

You will probably only be using three maybe four of these cheats, ‘God Mode’, ‘Give All’, ‘Show Map’ and ‘No Clip’. Of all the cheats in the menu, only two remain active until you quit the game from the Xbox Home screen; ‘God Mode’ and ‘No Clip’. All the others need to be selected each time you start a new level.

NOTE: For the ‘No Clip’ cheat to work (so you can walk through walls), the message ‘Clipping: Off’ should appear at the top of the screen when you select this cheat.

In the guide, I will be referring to these cheats often. Using them will make your journey to obtain 1000 a lot easier, but if you wish to play without them, it's your decision.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
There really isn’t a walkthough for this game as you aren’t technically playing through the entire game (if you use the cheats), so I’ve outlined some tips below to unlock all 1000 quickly.

With the inclusion of cheat codes, unless you want to, it is not necessary to play through every level of the game to get all of the achievements. You need to play only 15 different levels in the game, and of those 15, you only need to actually complete 8 of them, so unlocking all the achievements in this game is quite simple. Most of the levels you actually need to complete can be done in a minute or two (or less) if you follow the guide.

You can do the achievements in any order you wish since all of the non-secret levels are unlocked to begin with. Read through the guide and plan out your strategy for knocking out as many achievements with as few playthroughs as possible.

There are a few “grindy” achievements (“Duke's Mighty Foot,” “Roast 'Em,” “Oomph, Uugh, Where Is It?” and “Invaders Must Die!”), but these can each can be done in a matter of minutes if you keep reloading a save point.

NOTE: With the exception of two achievements, “See, I’m Tough Too!” and “Buzz Off,” it is not necessary to select any other difficulty except “Piece of Cake” for the remainder of your playtime.

Conclusion:
Congratulations on your quick 1000. While it has been nice to play Duke Nukem 3D once again, this time with updated graphics, the quick completion and price tag might steer people away who have played the game before. It’s still a classic.

There are 27 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Complete "L.A. Meltdown" on any difficulty.

When you start the game, you have access to every non-secret level in the game. To unlock this achievement easily, just play the last level of the episode and defeat the boss.

Select Single Player > New Game > L.A. Meltdown > The Abyss then your difficulty. Then, while in this level, enter the cheat code. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All’ and ‘Show Map’ (then you can press twice if needed for a top-down view so you don’t get lost walking through the walls). You will need to enter the cheat code for each cheat you want to activate.

The video below shows you the quickest way to get to the boss, the Battlelord. Defeat it by any means and the achievement will unlock during the end cutscene.

  • Complete "Lunar Apocalypse" on any difficulty.

When you start the game, you have access to every non-secret level in the game. To unlock this achievement easily, just play the last level of the episode and defeat the boss.

Select Single Player > New Game > Lunar Apocalypse > Overlord then your difficulty. Then, while in this level, enter the cheat code. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All.’ You will need to enter the cheat code for each cheat you want to activate.

When the level starts, make you way through the tunnel and emerge from the water when it opens up. Directly on the opposite side of the tunnel you were in is a vent near the ceiling. This vent is only accessible if you have a jetpack or if you are using the ‘No Clip’ cheat. Shoot it out and enter the short tunnel. At the end you will see a large rotating gear (there will be an Octabrain floating around so you can kill it or not; it’s up to you).

Walk forward and drop down the shaft into a circular green room lined with eggs with a giant door at one end. Destroy the eggs so they don’t give you any issues (the Devastator works great here). When they are all dead, open the door to reveal the Overlord. Defeat it by any means and the achievement will unlock during the end cutscene.

  • Complete "Shrapnel City" on any difficulty.

When you start the game, you have access to every non-secret level in the game. To unlock this achievement easily, just play the last level of the episode and defeat the boss.

Select Single Player > New Game > Shrapnel City > Stadium then your difficulty. Then, while in this level, enter the cheat code. Turn ‘God Mode’ on and select ‘Give All.’ You will need to enter the cheat code for each cheat you want to activate.

The boss area is the only area in this level. At the start you are going up a lift and appear in the center of a football field where the Cycloid Emperor is. That’s it. Defeat it by any means and the achievement will unlock during the end cutscene.

NOTE: If playing on the “Piece of Cake” difficulty, this will be the only enemy in the level. Defeating the boss on this difficulty will also unlock “Take No Prisoners.”

  • Complete "The Birth" on any difficulty.

When you start the game, you have access to every non-secret level in the game. To unlock this achievement easily, just play the last level of the episode and defeat the boss.

Select Single Player > New Game > The Birth > The Queen then your difficulty.

The video below shows you the quickest way to get to the boss, The Queen. Defeat it by any means and the achievement will unlock during the end cutscene.

  • Complete "Alien World Order" on any difficulty.

When you start the game, you have access to every non-secret level in the game. To unlock this achievement easily, just play the last level of the episode and defeat the boss.

Select Single Player > New Game > Alien World Order > Hollywood Inferno then your difficulty. Then, while in this level, enter the cheat code. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All.’ You will need to enter the cheat code for each cheat you want to activate.

The video below shows you the quickest way to get to the boss, the Mutated Cycloid Emperor. Defeat it by any means and the achievement will unlock during the end cutscene.

  • Step on 40 enemies after using the Shrinker on them.

An easy way to unlock this achievement is at the beginning of the level ‘Spaceport’ in Episode 2 on the “Piece of Cake” difficulty. When you spawn, enter the cheat code and select the ‘Give All’ cheat. You can turn ‘God Mode’ on as well if you’re so inclined to make it easier.

Before you move, switch your weapon to the Shrinker. Walk down the corridor and turn to the right. You will see a force field door on the left and a pillar in front of you (on higher difficulties, there is a Trooper hiding behind this pillar). Walk around the pillar to the left to reveal a computer console with a Trooper standing in front of it (on higher difficulties there are two Troopers here). As soon as you see it, shoot it with the Shrinker but before you step on it, pause and save your game, then proceed to crush it with your mighty foot. Reload your save and repeat until the achievement unlocks. This should take about five minutes.

NOTE: You can get this on any enemy in any level but decided on this spot since there was an enemy right at the beginning of the level.

  • Step in a pile of excrement.

An easy way to get this is on the level ‘Tour De Nukem’ in Episode 5. From the start of the level, walk straight through the open door and stay to the right of the dumpster. Walk straight and at the end of the sidewalk, there will be a couple of garbage cans next to another dumpster with a pile in the right corner in front of an ATM. Step in it to unlock the achievement.

  • Tip an exotic dancer.

In the Episode 1 level ‘Red Light District’, as soon as you start the level, activate the cheat menu and select ‘Give All’ (this will give you all the key cards for the level without having to find them). You can turn ‘God Mode’ on as well if you’re so inclined to make it easier.

From the beginning of the level, follow the street around two corners to the bar. Use the yellow key card to enter. Follow the entrance up to the pool table room. Walk past the pool table and take the second right up an incline. When you get to the door on the left, use the red key card and enter the dance area. Walk up to any of the dancers (there’s one in front of you as you enter) and press to unlock the achievement.

  • Find 70 secret areas.

Unlike the XBLA release of Duke Nukem 3D where you had to find 70 different secret areas, you can utilize the Playback Feature in this game and keep finding the same one over and over again.

Note that you can’t have any cheats active for this to work (as it disables the Playback Feature), so do this from a fresh new game.

There is a secret area near the beginning of the level ‘Spaceport’ in Episode 2. Select the “Piece of Cake” difficulty to spawn fewer enemies. When you start, turn around and go through the teleporter. Walk to the front of the ship and pick up the RPG, then turn around and walk back through the teleporter.

Kill the Trooper then switch to your RPG (if it isn’t already equipped). On the wall, you will see a column of broken monitors (the second column from the left of the switch). This is the secret area so press to reveal it. When it says “A Secret Place!” at the top of the screen, fire the RPG at the wall to kill yourself (and the Trooper in the secret area). Use the Playback Feature to rewind a few seconds and keep repeating until the achievement unlocks. This should take about 5 minutes.

Thanks to PurrPleeHaze for the video:

  • Finish the "Hollywood Holocaust" level in under 3 minutes.

Refer to “See, I'm Tough Too!” for more information on how to unlock both of these achievements at the same time.

  • Kill 1000 enemies.

A good method for getting kills is on the level ‘Overlord’ in Episode 2 just before the boss. This achievement is cumulative, so save your game just before the area, kill everything then reload your save. You should get approximately twenty kills each run in a matter of seconds. If you are using your saved game from the “Rage Engage” achievement, then just reload that save. If not, here’s the description from the beginning of the level.

When the level starts, activate the cheat menu. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All.’ Make you way through the tunnel and emerge from the water when it opens up. Before continuing, press or to equip the pipebombs (actually the Devastator works much better because it shoots faster). Walk forward and drop down the shaft into a circular green room lined with eggs with a giant door at one end.

As soon as you land, pause and save your game. Then walk towards the eggs so they start to hatch then start throwing pipebombs or shooting the Devastator around the room until all the eggs are destroyed. This should take about 5 seconds. At that point, reload your save and do it all over again until the achievement unlocks.

NOTE: It is recommended that you save this achievement for last as you will be killing enemies to unlock other achievements. You should have accumulated +/- 300 kills before farming here for the rest. Doing so will only take around ten minutes.

  • Kill every enemy on a level.

An easy way to get this is on the last level of Episode 3, ‘Stadium.’ Play on the “Piece of Cake” difficulty and there is only one enemy, the Cycloid Emperor. As you take the lift up to the stadium, activate the cheat menu and select ‘Give All’ and turn ‘God Mode’ on, defeat the boss and the achievement will unlock.

NOTE: If this is the first time playing this level, you will also unlock “Come Get Some.”

  • Use a cheat code.

While in any level, activate the cheat menu: , , click , . Use any cheat on the list and the achievement will unlock.

NOTE: You can’t access the cheat menu if you are playing on the “Damn, I’m Good” difficulty.

  • Find a secret area.

Refer to “Oomph, Uugh, Where Is It?” for more information.

  • Use the hookah in High Times.

This is unlocked in the level ‘High Times’ in Episode 5. When the level starts, activate the cheat menu. Select ‘Give All’ and turn ‘God Mode’ on.

Walk straight across the bridge and turn right. Up on your left is the “Little Green Man Coffee Shop.” Use the blue key card to enter. At the back of the room is the VIP room. Use the yellow key card to gain access to it. When you open the door there will be an Enforcer. Once you kill it, standing on the table in the center of the room is an alien hookah. Walk up to it and press to use it and the achievement will unlock.

  • Finish any level on "Damn, I'm Good" difficulty.

Since you can’t activate cheats while playing on the “Damn, I’m Good” difficulty, we’re going to trick the game. The easiest level to unlock this on is ‘Hollywood Holocaust’ in Episode 1 as it is the shortest. Plus, you can unlock “Alien Maggots are Gonna Pay” at the same time.

Start the level on the “Piece of Cake” difficulty. When you spawn on the rooftop, enter the cheat code and select ‘No Clip.’ Make sure that the message ‘Clipping: Off’ appears at the top of the screen. Now, no matter which level or which difficulty you play on until you quit the game from the Xbox Home screen, clipping will always be off, thus allowing you to walk through walls.

Press and select a new game. Choose ‘Hollywood Holocaust’ again but this time select the “Damn, I’m Good” difficulty. At the beginning of the level, destroy the fan and drop through the vent. Head left down the street (the cinema will be on the left and a flaming dumpster is on the right). When you get to the end of the street, turn left down the alley. Beware that there is are both Pigcops and Troopers here. Above you will be a walkway leading to a reddish area. Just walk into the wall below and you will magically jump up to the reddish area which is the end of the level. Be careful as there is another Pigcop waiting for you here. Once it is dead, press to break the glass and punch the Nuke Button and the achievement will unlock.

  • Finish a secret level.

You can do this on any of the 7 secret levels in the game, but for this guide, we are going to unlock this on the level ‘Tier Drops’ accessed from the level ‘Movie Set’ in Episode 3.

From the main menu, select Single Player > New Game > Shrapnel City > Movie Set and select your difficulty. When the level starts, activate the cheat menu. Turn ‘God Mode’ on and ‘No Clip’ off. It might help to turn ‘Show Map’ on as well in case you need to backtrack.

Walk through the door on the left (under the Stage 17A sign) and turn right to go through the stage door. Walk straight ahead until you reach the moon set and walk through the tech wall on the right. This will reveal a secret Nuke Button. Punch it to end the level which will take you to the secret level ‘Tier Drops.’

When this level starts, walk straight through the wall and you will be in this big room with an alien structure in front of you. Continue walking straight through the structure and you will eventually appear at the top (if you go too far, you will warp into a cavern surrounded by Octabrains. Just backtrack to the start and try again). Walk around to the left and there will be a door with a Battlelord face on it. Open the door and at the far end of the room is the Nuke Button. Punching it will end the level and unlock the achievement.

Thanks to asd asd for the video:

  • Listen to Developer Commentary (Use at least one trigger).

From the main menu, go to Options > Game Settings > Developer Commentary and press to turn it on (it’s checked). Back out to the main menu and select Single Player > New Game > L.A. Meltdown > Hollywood Holocaust and select your difficulty. As soon as you spawn, in front of you is a microphone icon. Walk up to it and press to activate it and the achievement will unlock.

  • Use the Incinerator

Refer to “Roast ‘Em” for more information.

  • Burn 50 bad guys to death.

Before you move, switch your weapon to the Incinerator. As soon as you see the enemy, shoot the Incinerator but immediately pause and save your game (timing is crucial). After it is dead, just reload your save and repeat until the achievement unlocks. This should take about five minutes.

NOTE: You can get this on any enemy in any level but decided on this spot since there was an enemy right at the beginning of the level.

  • Kill a Firefly Trooper while it's flying small.

NOTE: This will not unlock on the “Piece of Cake” or “Let’s Rock” difficulties.

The Firefly Trooper is a new enemy in Episode 5. You can unlock this on the level ‘High Times’ on the “Come Get Some” difficulty.

When you open the door there will be three Enforcers. Once you kill them, standing on the table in the center of the room is an alien hookah. Walk up to it and press (unlocking “I Never Inhaled”) and the room will turn green/yellow and rotate. Exit through the new door opposite from where you came in.

In the next room, there is a locked door in front of you. Turn right and go into another room, and overlooking a window there will be a switch on the desk that opens the door to the courtyard. Flip the switch and walk into the courtyard and you will see a big fountain in front of you with “Detour” arrows. Follow the signs around the fountain and when you’ve gone completely around, the scenery will change. Where you came out is now a brick wall and two Firefly Troopers will spawn.

Switch to the RPG or Devastator and avoid the enemies as they shoot flames at you. Stay far enough away from them and they will eventually shrink and try to relocate. Keep your weapon aimed at them and when you see them shrinking (they’re quick), keep firing your weapon and if you kill one, the achievement will unlock.

  • Carry all weapons with ammo at once.

The easiest way to unlock this achievement is to activate the cheat menu and select the ‘Give All’ cheat, which will give you all the weapons, ammo, inventory, and key cards.

  • Kill 5 bad guys with one shot.

Refer to “Rage Engage” for more information.

  • Kill 10 bad guys in 10 seconds while on steroids.

You can unlock “Nukem All” and “Rage Engage” in the same area.

At the main menu, select Single Player > New Game > Lunar Apocalypse > Overlord and select your difficulty. When the level starts, activate the cheat menu. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All.’

Make you way through the tunnel and emerge from the water when it opens up. Before continuing, press or to equip the pipebombs and or to select steroids, but don’t use them yet. Walk forward and drop down the shaft into a circular green room lined with eggs with a giant door at one end.

As soon as you land, pause and save your game. Then walk towards the eggs so they start to hatch then press to take the steroids and throw a pipebomb at the eggs. One pipebomb should kill five or more enemies. Keep circling around the room throwing pipebombs until all the eggs are destroyed and both achievements unlock.

NOTE: There are two reasons why you saved your game before falling into this chamber. First, in case one of the achievements doesn’t unlock, you can keep trying. Just time your throws further apart so one pipebomb kills five or more enemies. Second, this is a great area to farm 1000 kills for “Invaders Must Die!” Clearing the chamber nets 20+ kills, so if you keep reloading this save, you’ll have 1000 kills in no time.

Secret achievements

  • Find the Doomguy in the Level "Death Row"

This easter egg is found in the Episode 1 level, ‘Death Row.’

From the start point, walk forward to escape the electric chair. Then activate the cheat menu. Turn ‘God Mode’ on and ‘No Clip’ off.

Walk forward through the red curtain and through the doorway on the right. Turn left into a hallway, continue walking and turn left again into a small chapel. Walk towards the altar and press on the grey square and the room will turn red. The cross at the back of the altar will morph so you can walk through it.

Once you walk through the cross, turn right and walk down a passage (there is an Octabrain to the left) and you will see the Doomguy in his death throws in front of sacrificial altar. Walk up to him and Duke will say, “Hmm, that’s one doomed space marine,” and the achievement will unlock.

Thanks to PurrPleeHaze for the video:

  • Find Luke in the Level "Lunar Reactor"

This easter egg is found in the Episode 2 level, ‘Lunar Reactor.’

From the start point, activate the cheat menu. Turn ‘God Mode’ on, ‘No Clip’ off and select ‘Give All.’ It might help to turn ‘Show Map’ on as well (then press twice to get an overhead view of the level).

Open the door in front of you and walk along the corridor. Turn right and walk through the “Crew Quarters” door. Fall through the grated floor (there’s a space to do this on the left) and in one corner is a vent. Shoot it out and enter it. Follow the vent straight until the walls change color (from a darker grey to a lighter grey). Activate your jetpack then turn left and walk through the wall and you will be in a chasm.

If you have the map turned on, on your right, just before the chasm veers left into a wall, there is an alcove below you. Fly into this alcove and follow it until you see Luke hanging upside down. Walk up to him and Duke will say, “Now this is a force to be reckoned with,” and the achievement will unlock.

Thanks to PurrPleeHaze for the video:

  • Find Sam in "Mirage Barrage".

This easter egg is found in the Episode 5 level, ‘Mirage Barrage.’

From the start point, activate the cheat menu. The only cheat you need to select is ‘Give All.’

Select and turn on your jetpack and fly pretty much straight from your start point. After a few seconds, you will see a pyramid to your left. Fly towards it and you will see a squared area carved out in front of it. Land in this area and against a wall is Sam from the Serious Sam game. Walk up to him and Duke will say, “Why so serious, Sam?”, and the achievement will unlock.
