Introduction:
Embers of Mirrim is a side scrolling puzzle platformer. At least, that's how it's classified, but I'd hesitate to call it a puzzle game. It's more of a dexterity based platformer - you'll be using and to control two balls of light simultaneously through various paths. There aren't really any areas of the game that have puzzles to solve. The gameplay is tight, the graphics are good, and it's a very simple game to play. As far as achievements go, you can use a basic collectible guide and that's all you really need to complete this game.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
There are four types of achievements in this game:

  1. Story-related ones
  2. Cumulative ones
  3. Ones related to glyphs (collectibles)
  4. Ones related to saving companions (another form of collectibles)

The cumulative achievements are all unavoidable as you play actually. So really, all you need to do is beat the game and find all glyphs and companions. The "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution has a great video guide for all of the glyphs, making them very easy to grab. Each companion has its own achievement tied to it. Refer to each description to find them. Here is the order to find them in:

  1. Akat (Highlands)
  2. Taka (Highlands)
  3. Kiv (Weald)
  4. Vik (Weald)
  5. Inid (Wasteland)
  6. Dini (Wasteland)
  7. Ocu (Breach)
  8. Uco (Breach)

Once you complete the game, if you missed any companions or glyphs you can use chapter select to go back and get them. The chapter select screen also shows which levels have glyphs and companions you're missing. Each level has 2 companions, shown in the upper right corner, and then glyphs across the bottom left. If you missed companions but beat the game, you'll have to get them and then load up the Descent again and beat the boss again to unlock "The circle is now complete."

Conclusion:
Embers of Mirrim is a very fun platformer. It's got enjoyable graphics and cinematics, fun gameplay, and easy achievements. It's got decent length to it for a game like this, but it never gets boring as you learn more ways to use your embers.

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Split 500 times

This is cumulative and is essentially story related since it's not possible to finish the game without splitting this many times, so this will come naturally as you play.

  • Enter your first Net

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement will unlock in the beginning of the game inside the Spire when playing as the black creature.

  • Enter Net 200 times

This is cumulative but is essentially story related since nets aren't optional and you'll need to use them to progress. This achievement actually unlocked for me during the first chapter boss fight.

  • Use your first Rift

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Rifts are green and purple glowing balls that sustain your embers as you pass over them. You'll encounter them partway through the first chapter Highlands, after the Spire.

  • Use Rifts 500 times

This is cumulative but is essentially story related since rifts aren't optional and you'll need to use them to progress. This achievement unlocked for me partway through the third chapter.

  • Use your first Blast Rift

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

You'll be introduced to Blast Rifts early in chapter 2, the Weald. They shoot you in a set direction.

  • Use Blast Rifts 250 times

This is cumulative but is essentially story related since blast rifts aren't optional. You need to use them to progress through the levels. This achievement will unlock pretty late in the game.

  • Use your first Slingshot Rift

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Shortly after riding the Whaleworm you'll be introduced to your first Slingshot Rift, a star shaped thing that lets you aim and shoot yourself.

  • Use Slingshot Rifts 100 times

This is cumulative but is essentially story related as you'll need to use slingshots to progress. You should unlock this by the end of the Wasteland.

  • Glide 100 times

This is cumulative and will likely unlock very early in the game, before even finishing the first chapter (Highlands) depending on how often you hold when you jump.

  • Smash 20 Crystals

This is cumulative, and the crystals referred to are the orange-ish ones that, when you pounce on them, create an orange light. The game tells you these give you armor, but I have absolutely no idea what that means or how they work. Your health, if you want to call it that, regenerates automatically, so I don't know what the purpose of these stones is. Either way, when you come across them, make sure to smash them. You should unlock this achievement early in the fifth chapter.

  • Enter the Spire

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This will be your first achievement and will unlock upon finishing the two tutorial levels as the black creature then the white creature.

  • Gain the power of Dark Embers

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Right after entering the Spire at the beginning of the game, you'll be in control of the black creature. Move left and use to absorb the dark ember power and unlock this achievement.

  • Gain the power of Light Embers

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Once inside the Spire in the beginning of the game, when you gain control of the white creature you can head right and use to absorb the power and unlock this achievement.

  • Story-related; cannot be missed.

After finishing the two tutorial levels inside the Spire as the white and black creature, they will be united. After the cinematic, this achievement will unlock.

  • Split for the first time

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

You'll learn to split inside the Spire during the tutorial. For some reason this achievement doesn't unlock until after you complete the Spire, even though you'll split many times inside it.

  • Complete The Spire

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement unlocks upon completing the Spire, which is essentially the tutorial levels for the game.

  • Use a Tungi for the first time

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Right after finishing the Waterfall you'll come to a dark brown mushroom. Use to activate it with your dark ember and this achievement will unlock.

  • Survive the waterfall

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Around halfway through the first chapter you'll walk in front of a large waterfall. Big trees will fall down and you'll have to dodge a seemingly endless number of them. There are three sections, and each section has around 5 trees to dodge. They're all very straightforward, just remember you only need to get to the top with one of the two embers. You don't need to hit every Rift with both.

  • Complete The Highlands

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This achievement unlocks after finishing the boss fight at the end of the first chapter, Highlands. The boss will start to charge up a laser. Quickly split and go up the nets on either side. Avoid the four mines and hit the two switches on top. The boss will fall down to the middle area. Jump and pounce down with to hit him. Repeat this 5 more times to defeat him. The mines start moving more and faster, but just stick to one side (either inside or outside) rather than trying to weave back and forth.

  • Use a Splitfire for the first time

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

You'll be introduced to these in chapter 2, the Weald. They are fat ugly creatures that you go inside as an ember and it shoots out projectiles of the same color.

  • Surive the first Thorn Chase

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Right at the end of the Weald you'll have to climb up an area using only blast rifts. It's a pretty simple and short segment, and there's a decent room for error. Upon getting to the top this achievement will unlock.

  • Complete The Weald

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Right after surviving the first thorn chase sequence, you'll come to some corruption. Absorb it to save Taka and end the chapter.

  • Ride the Whaleworm

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Partway through the third chapter, Blight, you'll fall down some leaves and land on the back of a giant worn. An auto-scrolling platform section takes place, but this achievement unlocks immediately.

  • Survive the second Thorn Chase

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

At the end of chapter three, the Blight, you'll climb up another tree with thorns chasing you. This climb features mainly Slingshot Rifts, so you'll need to be quick with your aiming. Like the previous one, there is a decent margin for error, so this should be pretty simple to do.

  • Survive the corrupted Whaleworm Chase

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

Immediately after the second thorn chase in chapter 3, you'll be chased by a big corrupted Whaleworm. You'll need to hold in the entire time to stay ahead of it. Thankfully this section is very short and only has a few sections of leaves to jump across.

  • Complete The Blight

At the end of the third chapter, The Blight, you'll fight a large whaleworm. This is a very easy fight. He'll enter the screen from one side and his tongue will be either green or purple. Hop into the Spitfire with whichever color ember matches his tongue and shoot his tongue. Drop out of the Spitfire and go to the other side of the Arena. His tail will be a certain color too. Hop back into the Spitfire with that color ember and shoot his tail too. He'll fall onto the middle of the arena. Jump and pounce on his tongue to damage him. Now you'll have to platform onward to the next area. Repeat this pattern two more times in two more arenas to finish him off.

  • Survive the stalking Flarefly Queen

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

At the end of chapter 4, The Wasteland, you'll dodge the beast above you for a third time, and then she'll jump down in front of you and reveal herself. The achievement will unlock here, before actually running from her.

  • Use a Flarefly for the first time

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

After escaping from the beast attacking you from above in chapter 4, The Wasteland, you'll come to a wall with a little bug flying in front of it. Touch it with the correct color ember to make it explode and blow up the wall, unlocking this achievement.

  • Complete The Wasteland

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

The Wasteland ends with a long chase sequence against the Flarefly Queen. Much of it is very easy and straightforward, just jumping. You'll have to split into your embers a couple times though, and the latter time you do it will put your dexterity to the test for once. It still isn't really difficult by any means and may just take a couple tries to get the hang of the pattern.

  • Use a Tikeel for the first time

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

In the fifth chapter, The Breach, you'll be introduced to these creatures. It isn't immediately obvious how they function though. The creature's head will be sticking out of a surface and its orange-ish tail of sorts will be sticking out of an adjacent surface. Touch its tail with your green ember to make it exhale, or with the purple ember to make it inhale.

  • Complete The Breach

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

The Breach ends with a fight against the Flarefly Queen. It's definitely the most action packed fight since it has a few attacks to hit you with. Thankfully you regenerate your health so fast that dying shouldn't be much of an issue. It will either:

    1. Pound the ground in the center. Obviously don't be standing there. It'll then alternate stabbing at the left and right side a bunch of times. Just run back and forth.
    2. Slam down on one side of the arena. It'll then charge to the other side. Jump and split up to go over it.
    3. Go to one side and shoot out multiple flareflies.

It's this latter attack when it's time to act. Go to the side it's at and use the dark ember () to make that Tikeel inhale a Flarefly. Now wait for the boss to hover back to the center of the area and use your green ember to make the Tikeel shoot the Flarefly at the queen. It'll fall to the ground. Now you can pounce on its head to damage it. Repeat this two more times to finish this fight.

  • Complete The Descent

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is a short chapter at the end of the game where you'll descend gradually into a deep cave.

  • Defeat The Corruption

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

After completing the Descent and reaching the underground, you'll have to fight the Corruption source. It'll split you into your Embers, and now holding and brings your embers crashing together and turns you back into Mirrim instead of splitting you. The goal here is to separate your embers far away from each other, then press and hold both triggers. You'll smash together and destroy part of the corruption in the background. Do this to all pieces of the corruption (you can even set up your crosshair to hit 2-3 at once) and then its core will pop out. Hold and above it to turn back into Mirrim on it, then jump and pounce on it to damage it (all while holding the triggers). Repeat this two more times to destroy it and beat the game.

  • Complete Embers of Mirrim

This achievement will unlock after the final cutscene after defeating the Corruption.

  • Complete Embers of Mirrim saving all companions

To unlock this achievement you'll need to first save all 8 companions, then beat the game. If you already beat the game without saving all companions you can use chapter select, save the ones you're missing, then you have to replay the Descent and beat the Corruption again. This achievement will unlock after the final cutscene. Each companion has its own achievement for saving it. Refer to each description to find them all. Additionally, the chapter select screen shows which levels have companions to save and how many you've found.

  • Refer to the "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution for more information.

  • Complete 14 Glyphs

Refer to the "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution for more information.

  • Complete all 28 Glyphs

Glyphs are almost always hidden quite well off the main path, either by going up higher or dropping down into a hidden area. It's highly unlikely you'll find many on your own. Thankfully the developers were nice enough to make a video, linked below, that shows the location of each glyph. If you miss any, you can use chapter select to find the ones you're missing. The chapter select screen will also show you which levels you're missing glyphs in.

  • Complete the Maple Leaf Glyph

This glyph can be found in the Weald.

Refer to the "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution for more information.

  • Complete the Fleur De Lis Glyph

This is found partway through the Wasteland.

Refer to the "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution for more information.

  • Complete the Mysterious "S" Glyph

Refer to the "Turn On The Magic of Shining Light" achievement solution for more information.

  • Akat

    15

    Save Akat

While this isn't story related, it'd be very hard to miss. Shortly after using your first Spitfire in the Weald, you'll feel your controller vibrate. You'll come to dark crystals and be prompted to absorb the corruption. This will save Akat and unlock the achievement.

  • Kiv

    15

    Save Kiv

Near the beginning of the third chapter, Blight, you'll be using blast rifts to shoot left and right as you descend between thorn bushes. After you shoot left the second time, glide left over the Rift into an opening and head left to find Kiv.

As soon as you even enter the area with the thorns and the rifts, your controller will start vibrating to let you know someone is nearby to save.

  • Inid

    15

    Save Inid

In chapter 4, The Wasteland, right after you are introduced to Flareflies, you'll shortly come to platforms moving up and down with blue flames shooting up in between. Drop down and left at the first platform. Listen for the bell chime to indicate you're near a companion.

  • Ocu

    15

    Save Ocu

Right at the start of chapter 5, The Breach, head right but instead of jumping into the orange Net, use your embers to reach the upper platform to find Ocu to save.

  • Taka

    15

    Save Taka

I believe this is actually story related. At the end of the Weald you'll find some corruption to absorb, saving Taka and ending the chapter.

  • Vik

    15

    Save Vik

In chapter 3, The Blight, right at the first Slingshot Rift you learn about, shoot yourself up to the left platform instead of right. Here you'll find Vik to save.

  • Dini

    15

    Save Dini

In chapter four, The Wasteland, you'll make your way up out of a cave by using a Spitfire to shoot a Flarefly up top and then shooting a mushroom on the right side to create a platform for the Flarefly to explode, breaking open the purple Rift. This may seem complicated but you'll know it when you get to it. After completing this section and reaching the top, use your embers to go left instead of right. Here you'll find Dini to save.

  • Uco

    15

    Save Uco

In chapter 5, The Breach, after you use two Tikeels to make two Flareflies collide to reveal two rifts, climb up and then go left instead of right to find Uco.
