Big Game Hunter Achievement in Final Fantasy XIII-2

  • Big Game Hunter

    30

    Defeated every worthy opponent.

  • How to unlock Big Game Hunter

This achievement requires the defeat of four bosses in the Archylte Steppe area. You'll need to kill them all for their fragments to earn "Defragmented" as well. Once you can ride chocobos in this map (find all five statues on the map below and then speak with the keeper), you'll also be able to battle these opponents. To spawn them, use the weather machine at the hunter camp to create the right weather condition.

I suggest waiting until you've beat the game and either finished or are close to the "Supreme Being" achievement. Getting the Odinblade is a good idea as well. See "Giant's Fist" for how to obtain that. My Noel had 1000+ Strength when I did all these and they were extremely easy.

Note: Long Gui does not have an associated "quest" for killing him. The other three do (two from that man next to the weather machine, one from the sheep girl). If the quests don't trigger, try changing the weather and exiting the time and then returning. That should force them to show up.

    • Immortal - Found in SE when Windy (both up). Really nothing special to this guy, just a quick stagger than a Commando pounding.
    • Long Gui - Found in E when Sunny (both down). You'll need to Stagger and "kill" each of his legs for him to fall down, then Stagger his body to 999% and go full Commando. Throwing a Deprotect on won't hurt either. See "Giant's Fist" to get that achievement during this fight as well. Might take two rounds of stagger to kill him, just make sure to heal after any stomps.
    • Ochu - Found in W when Rainy (left up, right down). This fight is much easier than the first game. Again, with 1000+ Strength for Noel and Magic for Serah, I just used Rav/Com/Com with a few switches to heal. Take down the adds or their damage can take a toll quickly though.
    • Yomi - Found in SE when Stormy (left down, right up). Poison/Wound is going to be your biggest source of damage to this monster. Have three paradigms ready for this, one Sab/Sab/Med to cast the debuffs, one Med/Med/Med for quick full heals and one Sen/Sen/Sen that you will switch to any time he uses the "Wicked Whirl" attack. If you have some extra time, go full Commado for extra damage but I didn't bother.

  • im assuming that to achieve this achievement you may need to kill EVERYTHING.............. I hope im wrong as it sounds like an easily missable achievement.
  • Wait, wasn't this exact achievement tile and the one for Scarlet Medal used for achievements in XIII..?
  • Yup, this was for Treasure Hunter, anyone that 1000G'd XIII will definitely remember it ;p This list looks a lot easier. This will just come with completing the game and any missions there may be.
  • Acually you need to kill the bosses that spawn in the Archyite Steppe -Year Unknown- each time you change the weather. Each time you beat them you get a fragment. 1. Invincible - Spawns in the southeast section of the map when weather is cloudy. 2. Long Gui - Spawns in the east section of the map when weather is sunny. 3. Ochu - Spawns in the west section of the map when weather is rainy. 4. Yomi - Spawns in the southeast section of the map when weather is thundery. (*NOTE: In order to get to the Yomi mission you have to defeat the other three that spawn in the correct weather climate AND you need to have the chocobos unlocked to get to that area which has Yomi and a treasure sphere)
  • I have access to the chocobo, but the other monsters don't seem to be spawning - and no one will talk to me in the village. Is this a common problem, or do I need to beat the story before they become accessible?
  • I am trying to solve that right now. I've had the same problem so I'm trying to see if beating the monsters for the fragment in 4XX AF will work
  • Ok well I have done some things and I was able to face Invincible and Ochu....but not the last one (Yomi). I'm trying to figure out why that mission hasn't been unlocked. All I did was do the Vile Peaks Missions that get me a special monster....can't say because of spoilers.....but after I returned I got the missions
  • What I did was activated all of the cactuar statues in Archyite Steppe -Year Unknown- this gave me access to chocobos. I then talked to the chief who is next to the weather machine and he gave me the mission for ocho. I killed him then went to the historia crux and talked to him again and got the one for yomi and the girl down the ramp from him gives you the one for immortal. Saying all this I had beaten the story so it may have something to do with it.
  • why the hell is yomi so hard to kill?
  • Yomi shouldnt be that hard when my chars are almost maxed
  • If you want you don't need the cactaur waystone or chocobo to get to the water marsh. If you have the "longer jump" fragment skill, just hop right on over :3
  • try leaving and returning to the area if the quest isnt being given
  • anyone know a good way to take out Yomi he kept killing my ass
  • Hey FinDeep, I used (for my paradigms) SYN, SYN, SYN with a level 31 Yakshini SAB, SAB, MED with maxed out Flintor MED MED MED COM COM COM with maxed out Chichu RAV RAV COM Characters were maxed out both with Odin weapons with 136 att and mag HAVE WIND 1 WIND RESIST ITEM Buff up characters and heal when he is in defense mode, time it right to switch to debuff him right as soon he gets out of the defense mode then pound with COM COM COM, relentless assault didn't do much for me since stagger goes away often. FERAL LINKS IS A MUST.
  • One* sorry for the double wind typo.
  • BTW, I killed all the monsters in the Steppe, but no Big Game achievement. I wonder if you have to kill the Don Tonberry as well with Atilla.
  • mrbubbles heres a video of it this achievement on how to get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjOuR7lc6Fg&list=PL79DD1913A205C7D8&index=11&feature=plpp_video
  • Yea I just realized I did get it but didn't see it cuz I got the 99,999 achievement at the same time O_o. Thanks though
  • haha nice u did the 99,999 achievement on the long gui?
  • Yup got the achievement for 99,999 damage. Last achievement I need is the casino one :c Long gui was so easy even on normal just need to live ultima and that's it.
  • Just thought i would help everyone out here. I was having the problem where i could not get any of the missions to start, i already had the chocobo, would exit to the crux and still nothing. what you have to do is change the weather to sunny and then find whatever cactur statue you are missing, i was missing the one where you jump over to the plains, just by a rock, missions started straight after.
  • i cant mannage to get the 99,999 what were u using? like weapon and equipment wise?
  • Hey Fin Deep I used Chichu's feral link to get this while his strength was at 1015 buffed with bravery. Make sure your on normal mode. Bring the Long Gui down and then bring the stagger gauge to full 999.9% as soon as that happens use Chichu's meteorite sync it right and bam 99,999 damage. Or use Noel's Special while in commando. I had his odinblade equipped with a strength and magic of 138. His stats were 1127 attack and magic just over 800.
  • Finished this up just now. Most of the battles are easier than expected. Yumi is the only real problem and that is just because the battle is so drawn out. Too bad I didn't manage to get the 99,999 DMG chievo during my battle with Long Gui. Looks like I will just have to respawn him later. oh well.
  • ah well i might need to fully level the Chichu then
  • Mrbubbles did u have 2 other chu's in ur paradigim pack to make him stronger?
  • GAH!! i can't beat yomi I am maxed and everything >_< ugh
  • omg Dark Stori im right their with u
  • i know this sounds stupid but is there a link to a full list of monsters listed by area rather than alphabetical because i get so confused and i want to obtain every monster and is there a list to where i can farm certain items. thanks
  • FOR FINDEEP AND DARK STORI Hey I did not have the other 2 chu's in my party to make him stronger. My fully leveled Chichu had bravery equipped. And Yomi is difficult. This is what I did to beat him. Have serah equipped with the Zeper ring to resist wind (very helpful). Along with odinbolt and magicians mark. Noel just had 3 power wrist bands and odinblade. Have a fully level Flanitor and Chichu and have Yaskashi as your synergist. PARADIGMS SYN SYN SYN MED MED MED COM COM COM SAB SAB MED tips: when he is in defense mode BUFF your characters, time his switch right so you deshell and deprotect him, then hammer him with COM COM COM , switch to MED MED MED when needed. Make sure your health is high when he does the Wind Spiral move switch IMMEDIATELY to MED MED MED and click hy
  • Don't do MED MED MED. When you fight Yumi you should have a SEN in your party to absorb his attacks. I kept MED, MED, SEN for healing. SYN x3 for quick buffing (I used Yakshini for the strength and magic buffs, SAB, SAB, SEN to debuff him, RAV x3 to build up the chain quickly Then RAV, COM, RAV Using Noel as the COM so I could use him ultimate attack
  • I thought Yomi was ridiculously easy compared to his counterpart in XIII (the final mark mission). Of course, I thought the same of the others, too. I was actually a bit nervous to go against these guys because of the memories of XIII. Anyway, just as in XIII - poison Yomi. I basically went in and did so, had tortoise paradigm to absorb special attacks, a healing paradigm to use after he hit big or during his invincible period, and your default with a sab, syn and either another syn if you're higher level or a sen if you're lower. You can set up a refresher paradigm replacing with sab/rav/sen or sab/rav/rav. Spam poison. I 5 starred him (which is another thing that seems a lot easier) and I probably only got a couple of actual hits in with a more offensive paradigm.
  • Countermeasure is a very good paradigm to use against Yomi (SAB/SAB/SEN). It's better if your leader is a saboteur in that paradigm (and preferably Noel), because you will need to apply Deshell yourself most of the time. Why Deshell? Because Ruin has much higher DPS than Attack on flying enemies, especially one that moves around so much. If Yomi is under Deshell, Noel will automatically use Ruin, but if the monster is under both Deshell and Deprotect, he will use Attack instead, which you do not want, another reason Noel should be your leader. Once Yomi is under Deshell and Poison, change to Cerberus (COM/COM/COM) - trying to increase the monster's stagger gauge is pointless. If you have a commando with Deshell Chaser or Poison Chaser, all the better. When Yomi uses Impenetrabl
  • When Yomi uses Impenetrable Aura, switch to Recuperation (SYN/SYN/MED) if you are at high levels, or Convalescence (SYN/MED/MED) if you are not. When Yomi readies Wicked Whirl, immediately change to Tortoise (SEN/SEN/SEN), obviously, that attack has the potential to eradicate your team. Other useful paradigms against Yomi include: -Discretion (MED/MED/COM) to keep damaging a poisoned Yomi while healing the damage. -Combat Clinic (MED/MED/SEN) if you are rather underlevelled and in a tight spot. So the Party Padarigms should look like this, in the order you prefer: Cerberus Discretion Countermeasure Recuperation or Convalescence Combat Clinic Tortoise
  • (silly limits) Poison is the highest source of damage against this boss, so do not worry too much if you do not have time to get many hits with Cerberus. Two notes to finish, wounds are not really a threat against Yomi, but at lower levels, getting raped by Wind Shear can add up (plus Wicked Whirl, even under the Tortoise paradigm), so bring in a few Wound Potions. Your buffs will not last long enough to use while under the Cerberus paradigm if your synergist does not have SYN Bonus Boost II (and preferably Boon, easy to get from infusing Unsaganashi), so unless you have a synergist monster with SYN Bonus Boost II, do not bother getting Faith/Faithga.
  • when the guide says go full Cerberus is total garbage to be frankly honest, Yomi will reset the gauge often when i played him on normal. it maybe possible to debuff them without the dispell since yomi is immune to it. I use countermeasure ( SAB SAB SEN (Bunkerbeast)) to inflict debuffs to keep the chain intact and then tri disaster is a must and then one it's fully staggered i say aggression (RAV COM COM (Dragoon or Adomar)) will have to work since he is halved on elemental's and normal if he was inflicted by imperil but you don't have much time to kill it when it's aura move comes every 30 seconds. i think in my opinion the monsters i suggest is bunker beast, dragoon or adomar and claire farron or cloudburst.
  • Yomi was Easy for me on Normal + 5 stars first time i went SAB/RAV/RAV Noel,Serah,Cloudburst (to Build up Stagger) MED/MED/SEN Noel,Serah,Silver Chocobo (To Heal when Yomi Goes into the Shield) RAV/RAV/COM Noel,Serah,Chichu (Build Stagger up + Have Damage Done by Chichu) COM/SAB/COM Noel,Serah,Chichu (For when Yomi was Staggered)
  • Anybody complaining about yomi sucks at this game. He was a complete joke i just did 3 paradigms: Sab/Sab/Sen (lvl45 silv choco) Syn/Syn/Sen Med/Med/Rav(lvl 59 grand behe) Killed him with only poison and wound in 9 minutes and got 5 stars
  • and sen/sen/sen for whicked whirl*
  • Just got this :) For anyone struggling with Yomi, I used just these paradigms; SAB / SAB / SEN MED / MED / SEN COM / COM / SEN SEN / SEN / SEN Always get Poison to stick before trying to cut his health down with the COMs, and always swap to all SENs as soon as you see Wicked Whirl pop up - which won't be til he's got 3 buffs on him. (If I remember rightly, is same boss with different name from the Cieth Stones of FFXIII.) My Monster SEN was a Silver Chocobo, who was only Lv. 28, so I don't think you need superbuffed maxed Monsters, just be cautious and get Poison stuck on.
  • As mentioned before the trick to Yomi is poison. Do that and just bunker up and heal. Recast the poison on him when it runs out. Don't bother with trying to deal 'that little extra bit of damage because he will just do that ability of his where he clears his chain gauge, removes his debuffs and becomes temporarily invincible.
