Glacier Blast is a new puzzle game from Microsoft. Essentially, you goal is to use predefined shapes made of individual tiles to match and destroy the tiles of the game board. There are power-up tiles and those that must be avoided. Using the minimum amount of predefined shapes will earn you more combo points. There are 50 single-player levels and 4-player online multiplayer (both asynchronous and live). Currently the game is FREE and ad-supported in the Windows 8 Store.

Step 1: Single-Player (5 for 45)
Puzzle Mode is the single-player portion of the game. You will be presented with boards that you must use three fixed breakers to destroy, earning score along the way. You can earn up to three stars per level. These achievements are quite quick, but Sapare Aude! will most likely require you to spend up to an hour or so earning a total of 74 stars to unlock a specific level.

Step 2: Multiplayer (15 for 155)
Multiplayer consists of both Quick Feud and Feud modes. They are essentially the same thing, except Quick Feud is live, while Feud is intended to be asynchronous. They have identical gameplay. There are unique rules for multiplayer, so be sure to check out the "How to Play" section from the Main Menu. All of the achievements can be earned offline against three AI opponents. However, some of them are a bit tricky and it is easier to find a boosting partner or play against yourself on another Windows 8 device. To find a partner, see the Achievement Trading Thread HERE.

Glacier Blast is a simple puzzle game that does not really offer much content. However, the achievements are simple and straightforward, which is always great for a free game. You can earn all 200 gamerscore in less than 3 hours, especially if you have another Windows 8 device to boost against.

There are 20 achievements with a total of 200 points

  • Complete a Feud or Quick Feud! match without missing a round.

This achievement requires that you complete a multiplayer game without missing a round. A multiplayer game consists of 10 rounds where you are given the chance to play a breaker on the board. Each round has a timer of 30 seconds in Quick Feud and 26 hours in Feud. Once all 4 players have taken their turn, the game will automatically advance to the next round. Just play a breaker each round before the time limit runs out to earn this achievement.

  • Remove the last tile of an opponent player in a multiplayer match.

This achievement requires that you destroy the last colored tile of a player. At the start of a match, each player has 12 colored tiles (they are actually shapes, such as green ducks or blue gems). You simply must destroy the final colored tile that a player owns. Look for it and strike when you can. This must be the tile of an opponent, and cannot be your own. Play in Feud against three AI opponents.

  • Earn a tile after breaking a Care Power Tile.

This achievement requires that you earn a tile after breaking a Care Power tile. Care Power tiles have a heart on them and when broken will change to the color of the last place player (4th). So to earn this achievement, you need to be in last place, then break a Care Power tile (break it, not just the ice coating). The achievement will pop immediately.

  • Break a Mystery Power Tile and gain a Large Bonus Power Tile

This achievement requires that you break a Mystery Power Tile and earn a Large Bonus Power Tile. Mystery Tiles are those that have a question mark on them. When broken, they reveal another Power Tile that breaks. Large Bonus Power Tiles have a big star on them (as opposed to a Small Bonus Power Tiles, which have a small star) and award extra score to the player that breaks them. You need to break a Mystery Tile that reveals a Large Bonus Power Tile. This is somewhat luck dependent, as you can never see which tile the Mystery Tile is hiding. Your best bet is to keep loading up Quick Feud matches against the AI and work on destroying all the Mystery Power Tiles. Once they are all destroyed, quit and repeat until you finally get a Large Bonus Power Tile. Having a boosting partner is helpful to break the ice coating on the tiles so you can destroy them.

  • Be the last to place a breaker before the end of a match.

This achievement requires that you make the last move in a multiplayer game. Start a Quick Feud match against 3 AI opponents. Play normally until round 10, then let all the other opponents take their turns (this shouldnt be a problem as the AI plays inhumanly fast anyways). Then slide a breaker up to the board, finishing the game and unlocking this achievement. Remember not to let the 10 second timer run out!

  • Finish in first place in a multiplayer match without owning any tile.

This achievement requires that you win a multiplayer match without having any tiles of your color left on the board (ducks, gems, shields, etc.). The hardest part for most of you will actually be winning a game. The computer is unforgiving and plays lightning quick, especially in Quick Feud. For this reason, it is recommended you play Feud. For this achievement it is advised to boost with at least one other player. This will increase your odds of winning. In the later rounds, if you are in the lead and you still have some colored tiles, use your last few turns to destroy them. If you are playing with a friend or yourself, that player can focus on destroying your tiles as well. To win, focus on getting 4 blocks with each breaker and aim first for the Large and Small Score Power Tiles. Also, it is sometimes best to let the other players go first in a round, especially near the beginning of the game, so they can break the ice coating the tiles.

  • Earn ten stars in Puzzle matches.

    See "The Stars Were Right"

  • Earn twenty stars in Puzzle matches.

These achievements require that you earn a cumulative total of 20 stars in Puzzle Mode. Each level you can earn up to three stars. Scoring more points will earn you more stars. Each breaker (the predefined shapes at the bottom of the screen you drag up onto the board) is made up of four tiles that you match with the tiles on the board to destroy. 10 points are earned for each block destroyed, and the number of blocks you destroy per breaker is used as a multiplier. Since the number of blocks on the board is fixed, the real goal in the game is trying to combine breakers efficiently to consistently earn the largest multipliers. 1 star can be earned just by completing the level, but two and three stars is where strategy plays in.

You will have no trouble earning 20 stars. There are 50 levels in the game spread across 5 worlds, offering a total of 150 stars. Subsequent worlds and levels are unlocked by meeting star requirements. See these requirements in the level-selection screen.

NOTE: The "Sapere Aude!" achievement is most easily done on World 5, Level 3, which requires 74 stars to unlock. See that specific achievement for more info.

  • Complete a Puzzle match by using all available breakers.

This achievement simply requires that you use all three breakers to complete a Puzzle Mode level. This will likely be your first achievement. In one of the first levels, just be sure to use each of the three breakers at least once to complete a level.

  • Earn at least a thousand points in a single movement of a puzzle.

This achievement requires that you earn 1000+ points with the play of a single breaker. This can most easily be earned in the fifth world, "Trial of Bravery", sixth level. You will need to earn 70 stars to unlock the fifth world, and 80 stars to unlock the sixthlevel thereof. The first two worlds are ridiculously easy and you should be able to earn 60/60 stars there. Earning the last 20 stars should be no problem, even if you just spam breakers to clear the boards.

Once you unlock the specified level, fire it up. Immediately use the one breaker to the left. Place it in the location seen below. You will score 1100 points and immediately unlock this achievement. Thanks to R00ney 1988 for this method!

  • Have three of your tiles protected, at the same time, in a multiplayer match.

This achievement requires that you encase three of your colored tiles in ice simultaneously. To protect your colored tiles with ice, you must destroy a Healer Power Tile (looks like a medical cross). When you do this, one of your colored tiles will get glazed over with ice, protecting it from a single enemy attack. This achievement is much easier if boosted with another player in Feud mode, but is possible offline against the AI as well.

Load up the match. Look at the board to first make sure it has at least three Healer Power Tiles. If it doesn't, you might as well restart as you cannot get this achievement in that game. Once you have a game with three tiles, have your boosting partner destroy the ice casing on the first Healer Power Tile. Then immediately play your turn to destroy the tile. Repeat this step two more times. You also need to be cautious that the other players are not destroying the ice as you are forming it. You must have three ice coatings on your colored tiles active AT THE SAME TIME at the BEGINNING OF A ROUND.

  • Earn 150 points in the first round of a multiplayer match.

This achievement requires that you earn a score of 150 in the first round of a multiplayer match. This also may require some boosting. The easiest way to unlock this achievement is to break a Large Score Bonus Power Tile in combination with a high block multiplier. Use the boosting account to destroy the ice from the Large Score Tile and several nearby blocks. Then hit the same pattern and break the Bonus Tile and three other blocks (four blocks total) to give you all that score plus the 4x multiplier. An alternative solo method involves hitting 4 enemy unprotected colored blocks at the start of the game. This will require some luck to get your starting patterns to match the colored tiles of the board. When it does line up, each one is worth 10 points (40 total) and you will get a 4x multiplier, scoring you 160 points.

  • Be the first to place a breaker in each round of a Quick Feud! match.

This achievement requires that you be the player to place the first breaker in all ten rounds of a Quick Feud match. The achievement works in either multiplayer mode (not just Quick Feud as the description states) and is easy to do against three AI opponents in Feud mode. Each round, rush to place a breaker before any other opponent. Do not do any planning; just blindingly slide one up immediately when the round starts. Do this ten times and the achievement will unlock at the end of the game. Make sure your breaker actually comes in first each time.

  • Change a power tile to your color then have it destroyed by an opponent the same turn.

This achievement requires that you change a Power Tile to your color and have it destroyed in the same turn. There are two Power Tiles that can be used to earn this achievement. The first is the Care Tile, which looks like a heart. When broken, it turns to the color of the 4th place player. So to use this tile, you must first be in 4th place, then break a Care Tile to have it turn your color. In the same turn, another player must destroy the newly formed tile of your color. The second kind of Power Tile that can be used is the Changer Tile, which looks like two arrows making a circular shape. This tile acts like the Care Tile, but it doesn't change to the last place player's color, it changes to the color of the player that destroys it.

Having another account helps again with this achievement. Play a Feud match. Use the other account to break the ice coating, then quickly break the tile you need. You then have to hope that a AI player breaks the tile afterwords in the same round. If there is no ice coating at the beginning of the round on a tile you need, break it yourself, then use the other account to break your colored tile that has just been formed.

  • Break four or more tiles owned by opponents, and none of yours, with one breaker.

This achievement requires that you break four colored tiles owned by your opponents in the same turn. This can easily be done against three AI opponents in Feud mode. It will require a bit of luck however as you need to get a breaker pattern that matches the pattern of colored tiles on the board. Just look around and try to fit one of your three breakers on the board so that it hits a colored tile with each of its squares. You dont have to destroy the same opponent's tiles, it can be any combination of opponent's tiles. As long as you get four of them and none of those four are yours. This will usually only be possible in the first few rounds of a game when there are ample colored tiles in play. If you manage to pull this off in the first round, you will also unlock "Lead by Example."

  • Break three tiles belonging to the same opponent in a single turn.

This achievement requires that you break three colored tiles belonging to a SINGLE opponent in one turn. This can easily be earned against three AI opponents in Feud mode. It will require some luck however as you need to match one of your breaker patterns with the pattern of a single opponents colored tiles. Look around the board and try to match up your breakers. This will likely only be possible in the first few rounds when there are ample colored tiles in play. As soon as you destroy the tiles, the achievement will pop.

  • Complete a multiplayer match without having one of the players left tileless.

This achievement requires that you complete a multiplayer game without having any play left without a colored tile. This is fairly easy to do as it doesnt matter who wins the match and this occurs quite frequently without even trying. This will require some luck, but basically your strategy is to avoid destroying colored tiles belonging to any opponents. If you have a second account playing, it will help a little but it is definitely not needed. Just focus on not destroying any tiles with that account as well.

  • Break a hundred Feud or Quick Feud! tiles.

This achievement requires that you break a cumulative total of 100 tiles across all your multiplayer games in both Quick Feud and Feud modes. All of the tiles count. This will come in just a handful of games as you can usually break 25 to 30 tiles per game.

  • Break three hundred Puzzle tiles.

This achievement requires that you break a cumulative total of 300 Puzzle tiles in Puzzle Mode. All of the white tiles you break on all replays of every level count toward this achievement. This will unlock early along your path to earning the 74 stars needed for the "Sapere Aude!" achievement.

  • Break more tiles belonging to you than to your opponents in a single turn.

This achievement requires that you break more of your own colored tiles than opponent's colored tiles in a turn. Just use your breakers to sabotage yourself by destroying your own tiles. Try to precisely hit one of your own tiles and no other colored tiles. This achievement will pop immediately.
