Introduction:
Hexologic is a logic-based puzzle game from MythicOwl. The object of the game is to change the number of dots inside the empty hexagons (1, 2 or 3 dots) so their sum equals the numbers along the edges. Depending on what edge the number is on determines what hexagons are to be used for that sequence. As you play further into the game, different variables are introduced which change the dynamics of each puzzle. Please refer to "Hard Mode Totems Master" for examples of each type of puzzle.
Although the game may look more complicated that it is, the puzzle part is trying to figure out how many dots go in each hexagon. If you study the puzzle, you can determine which sequences are easier than others then work from there. It will take some ingenuity and basic math skills to solve each level as the difficulty increases as you progress.
If you do not wish to figure out every puzzle for yourself, a complete image walkthrough has been provided by Steam user Deiru.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
To 100% this game, you need to complete all 90 basic and 21 special levels on Hard mode. On the main screen, before selecting your level, press and select the red hexagons to play on Hard. Then select Level 1 and play to the end.
For every 15 basic levels completed, you unlock a group of three special levels. These can be done as they're unlocked or after you complete all the basic levels. In addition to unlocking a group of special levels, each set of 15 levels also introduces new elements to the puzzles, making them more challenging to solve.
You can navigate to individual levels with . Pressing
or
skips the levels in increments of 10. If you press
,
,
or
, it skips to the first levels of each 15 level set (or however many you’ve completed in that set). Pressing
or
skips between the first and last level you’ve completed.
While in a level, pressing changes the amount of dots in the hexagon, but the developers included shortcut buttons as well. For 1 dot, you can press
, for 2 dots, press
, and for 3 dots, press
. It may save some time, but I personally found it awkward to use the individual buttons so I used
for most of the game.
Pausing the game within a level does not yield to a traditional menu. Instead of navigating through selections with , the "menu" is represented by four images in the top right of the screen, each indicating one of the four lettered buttons on your controller. Pressing
changes the sound and music,
for goes back to the level,
goes back to the level select screen and
resets the level you’re currently playing.
Please refer to "Hard Mode Totems Master" for more detailed information about each set of levels.
Conclusion:
Hexologic isn't very expensive and is easy enough if you follow a guide and want to pad your gamerscore. If you really want to challenge yourself, try playing blind without solutions to see how far you get. Congratulations on your 1000!
