King Of Fighters 12 is the latest in 3 Vs. 3 Team Fighters from SNK/Playmore. As such, the achievements are heavily based on skill and many may be unobtainable to the average gamer. With this guide though you will be able to find some extremely effective methods in grabbing some quick and easy points, along with methods to help get you your full 1000.
Step 1 - Offline/Online Friend Play - Set Up
Most gamers have no idea what King of Fighters is, but even for series Veterans playing a few matches offline or online with a friend should be the first thing you do. When I booted this up with my friends I was losing with my series staple, Terry.
Not only will playing a few matches get you acquainted with the basics of the game, but you will earn a few achievements in the form of Striker, Sniper, and Razor Edge for counter attacks. I got these within the first three matches I played with no effort.
Step 2 - Create a Chart for Arcade mode:
The final arcade achievement, King of Fighters, requires that you actually beat every character in the game with each character. If that sounds confusing, it is. What I mean is if you pick Terry (for example), then you have to kill all 22 characters with him. Character specific achievements do not require you to kill every character but the final achievement does.
For this reason alone, I would recommend making a chart and keeping track of who you've killed during arcade mode. The minimum amount of times you may end up having to beat arcade with each character is two (Arcade mode only has 15 characters, so there is a chance you can get the remaining seven on your next playthrough). There are two charts you can use, located here and here.
Step 3 - First Playthrough with your desired character
After playing a few rounds you should be ready to decide who your best character is. You can change the difficulty to Easy in the options menu and, after doing that, start your playthrough. If you want to cut down the amount of times you will play don't bother trying to pick a good team.
If you are playing on Easy you can probably beat the game without trying to pull off any complicated supers. Also, you can set the move-sets to "Simple" mode, which should make pulling off most of your attacks incredibly easy.
To be clear, you cannot fail a round and restart or pick retry after clearing a round and still get the character specific achievements.
If you want to further cut down on playthroughs, set the timer to 30 seconds in the options menu. This will ensure you get at least Slow Starter and Speedster if you don't lose a round. Also, playing through with a character requires you to not lose, so do not worry about Conquerer.
Step 4 - Playthroughs with other characters
Now that you've beaten the game once you should be familiar with how the CPU will play and how quickly you can beat them with spammable moves. Over the course of your playthroughs with each character you should try to increase your speed with beating the game, though don't go too quickly or you might make a mistake and lose a round. Also make sure to keep your chart in order.
Step 5 - Online achievements
Online in this game will be fairly simple. All you will need to do for these achievements is find a boosting partner and boost out 300 matches, winning at least 100 to get all the match related achievements.
As for rank, you automatically start with an F Rank when you enter the online play. Ranks are determined by the amount of matches you play. You just have to play an incredible amount to get your rank up (1400 matches).
Step 6 - Mop-Up
Since you should have now beaten the game with every character and boosted out all of the online matches, the only achievements you could possibly be missing are timed based ones and maybe Bull Fighter.
The time based achievements are why I recommend doing more playthroughs. On my first time through I beat the arcade in about seven and a half minutes. Since there are only five rounds consisting of three people each, you could easily beat it in two and a half minutes if you kill everyone in ten seconds. Raiden has some good combos that deals tons of damage and Ryo has an extremely effective and fast super that should help. Leona has a trick that is mentioned in the achievement description below.
This King of Fighters game is not a very hard achievement list for skilled players but novices should be wary. I was surprised to find out that you could change the difficulty and still receive character specific achievements and even the one for not losing a round. Online will be easier with boosting but will definitely not be a quick task. Arcade mode will take an extreme amount of time so you may end up putting in more than 20 hours on Arcade alone. If you stick with it though you will have a good time.
