Introduction
Welcome to Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes! Just like all of the other Lego games you will need two playthroughs in order to complete them. The first playthrough will be for completing the Story Mode, while the second one will be for finding all of the collectibles (Minikits, Gold Bricks & Red Bricks).
Step 1 - Completing the Story Mode
There are a total of 15 story levels in the game, each lasting about 20+ minutes if not longer to complete. As previous Lego games, these missions are not difficult. There may be some parts where you get stuck and become clueless on how to progress through the level. If that’s the case I suggest looking up a walkthrough on YouTube to guide you through the levels. Try not to worry too much about finishing the level with a “Super Hero” status. You will be able to get all of these easily on your second playthrough if you have cheats enabled. Also try not to focus on collecting all of the mini-kits on each of the levels. As you may know from playing previous Lego games, some Minikit collectibles are only found by using certain characters. You will be able to collect all of these on your second playthrough by using Free Play. Here's a list of all story-related achievements that cannot be missed.
- Theatrical Pursuits
- Harboring a Criminal
- Arkham Asylum Antics
- Dynamic Duo
- Asylum Assignment
- It's A Bird... It's A Plane...
- Chemical Crisis
- Chemical Signature
- Unwelcome Guests
- Destination Metropolis
- Research and Development
- Down to Earth
- Underground Retreat
- The Next President
- Core Instability
- Tower Defense
- Heroes Unite
Step 2 - Gotham City Free Roam + Collecting Gold / Red Bricks
I highly suggest doing this before you start collecting all of the mini-kits in your second playthrough. Scattered around Gotham City will be Gold and Red Bricks, Citizens in need of help, unlockable characters, Lego vehicles that you’re allowed to drive and a handful of studs to collect.
There are a total of 250 Gold Bricks in the game. These bricks are obtained by finishing story levels, saving citizens, finding all of them in a level and finding them throughout Gotham City. Some require you to get up to certain places in the city while using Batman or Robin’s special suits. These special suits can be found at the exact location where you will be finding each Gold Brick. On the other hand there are also Red Bricks that you can collect. If you have played previous Lego Games then you should have an idea of what they are. Each Red Brick contains a cheat that you can purchase and use in the game.
Now is also a great time to start finding and unlocking the characters. Unlockable characters can be found throughout Gotham City with a red spotlight over them. I recommend first finding and unlocking The Joker, Riddler, and Lex Luthor since you need them in order to obtain all of the red bricks throughout Gotham City. I also recommend finding the x2, x4, x6, x8 and x10 character stud cheats before purchasing any other Red Bricks (cheats). Stud multipliers add up with each enabled so by having all of them enabled you will have an x3840 bonus. This will allow you to rack up a tremendous amount of studs and will allow you to purchase anything in the game. All cheats can be selected from the Extras Menu.
After completing Step 2 you should have collected at least 200 Gold Bricks and have found at least 40 citizens. The rest of the Gold Bricks can be found by collecting all of the minikit figures and citizens in each level, which is what we will be doing in Step 3.Here's a list of the achievements you should have been able to collect during Step 2.
- Inferior Machines
- Test Hero
- Subway Hero
- Green Lantern's Light
- Halfway Through
- Extra! Extra!
- Kal-El Last Son of Krypton
- Super-Villain
- Gorilla Thriller
- Justice League
- The House of Luthor
Step 3 - Collecting the Minikits & Mop Up
Now is the time to make your second playthrough of Story Mode in order to collect all of the Minikits. Each level can be replayed by entering the computer terminal inside the Batcave. Remember that you must select the Free Play option when choosing the level you want to play. You're also going to want to turn on the cheats "Gold Brick Finder" and "Peril Finder". This way you will be able to locate the citizens and minikit collectibles a lot easier. If you have been following the Roadmap then you should already have these cheats unlocked. You will also need to get a "Super Hero" status in each of these levels. If you turn on all of your stud multipliers then you shouldn't have a problem.
Conclusion
Lego Batman 2 is probably one of the most fun Lego games to date. Easy enough to complete while having tons of fun attempting to do so.
