Introduction:
Another year, another Madden to pad your gamerscore. Madden 10 has a few new achievements relating to doing things with or to specific players, but the gameplay mechanic is still basically the same, and you can still use 2 controllers to get almost all of the achievements. You only need to play 5 games to get the 1150 (4 if you don’t want/have the DLC), so get ready for an easy 1150
with DLC. For purposes of this road map, the home team is always your profile and the away team is always the second controller signed in as a guest or not signed in.
Game #1: Patriots @ Chargers (or any other AFL team)
Start out by trading Adrian Peterson from the Vikings to the Patriots to prevent you having to play an extra game against the Vikings. You can edit the stats of any player you want, though it really isn’t needed if you use 2 controllers. Make sure the difficulty is set to All-Pro on both controllers and the quarter lengths are set to 5 minutes. If you have the AFL legacy pack, you may want to turn it on. Setting rewinds to unlimited will help, but isn’t completely necessary. You can also change the stadium to Lambeau Field and set the weather to snowy to knock out the Frozen Tundra achievement. Your only required achievements for this one are intercepting a pass to Randy Moss (for 2 achievements) and tackling Peterson for a loss 3 times. Both are easily done with two controllers following the guide below. It would also be wise to attempt the Ultimate 10 Point Swing achievement in this game if you have the pack and go for Super Bowl MVP-Like, as well. Depending on how much time you have left, you can just keep going for any achievement you have left until the game ends. Refer to the guide below for excellent methods for any specific achievement.
Game #2: Colts @ Cardinals
You’re going to want to have the same settings on this game (All-Pro, 5 minute quarters, unlimited rewinds), though you don’t have to worry about Lambeau or the AFL. You are going to need to work the offense as well as the defense in this game. When on defense, have your profile try to intercept a Peyton Manning pass 3 times, while on offense, select one running play, to ensure that you juke Bob Sanders (select him with controller 2 if you want to easily track him), and then spend the rest of your game throwing Hail Mary passes to Larry Fitzgerald, since they give you enough time to switch to him, run a few yards and catch the ball for a user catch. You should have 10, but it is best to have way more, since the game does not differentiate between a catch and a user catch in any of the stats. Make sure you rewind if Fitzy drops the ball to ensure you get the achievement. I wouldn’t recommend going for any of the fumble achievements on this one, since you will want to have as many catch opportunities with Fitzgerald as possible. Again, go for any achievement you don’t have, and refer to the guide below for more assistance.
Game #3: Chargers @ a team of your choice
Start by trading Kurt Warner from the Cardinals to the Chargers and editing his carry stat as low as possible. Do the same thing to LaDanian Tomlinson’s carry stat. Make sure your stats are set to what should be the standard (5 minute quarters, All-Pro, unlimited rewinds) and start the game. Your focus in this game is going to be forcing both Warner and Tomlinson to fumble and tackling Antonio Gates inside the 5 yard line. Again each of these are easily done with 2 controllers. If you are missing any of the non-player specific achievements, do them now. All three of the player specific achievements in this game will unlock immediately, so if you have nothing else left, you can just quit the game when you have all three. You can refer to the guide below for help with any specific achievement.
Step 4: Online Co-op
You can definitely find a partner online just by searching, though getting them to help you with the achievements may be difficult, so you may want to check the Achievement Trading Thread before starting. Once you have your partner, start up an Xbox Live game of Unranked Co-op, play as the Chargers and ensure that you are wearing the AFL legacy jersey if they have the DLC. You don’t need to win the game, so don’t worry about that, just make sure that during the game you pass the ball to your partner for a touchdown and pass a lateral to them. Easily done with communication. This should net you all four of the online achievements if you ensure that it is set to All-Pro difficulty and the quarter lengths are at 5 minutes. There are no rewinds, and no sliders to adjust in this mode, so it will take some skill, but not as much as you would think. Both the Passing TD and the Lateral unlock at the end of the play, so if you don’t get either of those, you can try again and just quit when it unlocks (not recommended if you are playing with a random online person).
Step 5: AFL Mop-Up (Madden Moment and Franchise)
If you don’t have the DLC, you can skip this step. These two achievements should take a combined 15 minutes. Both of these are specific game modes, accessed through the game modes menu, and cannot be done with adjusted sliders or 2 controllers, so it may take a few tries, but they are not terribly difficult. Refer to the guide below for more specific details on both achievements.
Step 6: Player and Team Creation
All you need to do with creation mode is create a new player with a birthdate of January 1, 1954 and a team from the city of Springfield. You don’t need to edit anything else aside from those two stats and save the character. You don't even need to save the team or player as the achievement unlocks when the screen to name the save comes up.
Step 7: Mop up
If you missed an achievement, start up a new game with the standard settings and follow the directions in the guide below, as the guide has very detailed methods on getting each specific achievement.
Conclusion:
While the online achievements and DLC achievements may be uncharacteristic for a Madden game, they don’t add any significant difficulty to getting the 100%. It is still a fairly quick game to complete and should offer few challenges to most gamers, and no challenges to veterans of the series.
