Introduction:
Welcome to Press Plays, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. Like PP's previous instalment - Max and the Magic Marker - the game plays very much in the same way and is a side scrolling platformer. The game is based around you playing as Max on an adventure to save your brother Felix after you cast a spell to get rid of him, be it by accident.

With 30 achievements to gain for a total of 400, it may seem quite a lot for a simple XBLA game, but they're all fairly straight forward and easy to unlock. All will be obtainable through the games story and if by chance you miss any, you can simply go back and select the chapter you're missing one in.

Playthrough:
You should get most, if not all the achievements in one playthrough. Like I've mentioned above, if by chance you miss one, you can go back and select a chapter from the main menu. The game plays the way that if you get hit by an enemy it's a 1-hit kill, so be careful while playing. Saying that, the checkpoint system in this is quite good. So if you do die, you'll most likely start back a few steps behind where you died.

Misc:
Most of the achievements in the game are made up doing certain things using your marker to draw. The good thing is that a lot of stuff can be boosted on the spot or by restarting a checkpoint. So look out for chances where this is possible if you want to get them out of the way. The achievements related to not dying aren't as hard as they may seem, and after a couple of practice runs you should have them nailed.

Collectables:
There's a two sets of collectables in the game. They consist of the Evil Eyes and Amulets. For a guide on the location of these, please go HERE.

Credit to the following members for their help on the guide: IMport, UK x Jok3r x, B1indSide.

Conclusion:
Overall the game is not hard at all and quite fun to 100%. Some achievements will take a few tries due to you not being allowed to die, but they're nothing that will stop you from getting the 100% completion in a hurry.

There are 27 achievements with a total of 400 points

  • Find the first piece of the amulet

Please refer to "Tree of Life" for more details.

  • Reach the Old Lady in under 5 minutes

The first thing you'll want to do is play through this level at least once before you attempt this. Though it's not actually a hard target to beat, it's the first level you play, so you'll be learning the ropes. After that, load up the level again and run for your life. To start, you'll want to make sure you skip all cutscenes as this will be the part that cuts your time down below the 5 minute mark. Other than that, this is a pretty easy level to beat in the time frame given. On my 2nd run of this level, I managed to complete it in just over 4 minutes and that was with one checkpoint restart due to me falling.

Once you reach the top of the tree and and the cutscene takes place, the achievement will unlock.

  • Solve the last puzzle in Sea of Sand by only creating 3 Earth Pillars

Chapter 1-3 [Sea of Sand] is where you'll unlock this.

Right after the 5th Evil Eye, you'll jump onto a rock pillar which will collapse and then onto a solid rock formation. You'll now be greeted with a 2 pillars you can draw and high cliff to the right. Drawn the first pillar so you can jump onto it and then the same with 2nd. Now jump over and onto the 2nd pillar. With your marker out, aim at the base and press to destroy the pillar, while doing so, quickly press and hold to drawn another pillar right underneath you so that you can now reach the top of the cliff.

So looking back, you've made 2 earth pillars, with 3 marker moves. The achievement will unlock once you reach the top and jump onto the cliff.

  • Find and destroy 5 of Mustacho's Evil Eyes

Please refer to "Kingdom of the Blind" for more information.

  • Ride the Spikester for at least 10 seconds

Chapter 1-4 [Black Rock Canyon] is where you'll unlock this.

This is in the same section as the Amulet. Have the Spikester fall off its platform onto your drawn pillar and then destroy it so it falls to the floor. Now wait for it to slide its way underneath the hanging sucker enemy. This will cause the Spikester to no longer be able to hurt you and it makes a nice risen platform as well. Now run up to the Spikester and jump up onto the sucker on it's back. From here, simply stay on-board for 10 seconds and the achievement will unlock.

  • Find a bell and ring it, a lot

Chapter 1-5 [The Crossing] is where you'll unlock this.

Play through the level up to the point where you're being chased by a Henchman and then have to doge another coming in the opposite direction. At this point you should be on a platform above them. Grab the hanging rope, then swing and jump left onto another rope - you should see the first Evil Eye of the level here. This rope is attached to a bell, so keep swinging left and right, thus ringing the bell, until the achievement unlocks.

  • Kill a Bomber with his own bomb

Chapter 2-2 [Into the Wild] is where you'll unlock this.

A short way into the level, you'll come across a Bomber and Henchman. The Bomber is on a high platform, with the Henchman is below. You'll first need to kill the Henchman by blocking the Bombers bombs and directing them at the him below with the branch. Once done, destroy the 2nd pillar (if you've drawn one) and then try and direct the bomb onto it's spawn.

If you get the right shot, quickly drawn the pillar up to its full height and as it reaches the top the bomb will explode right next to the Bomber. This will then kill him and unlock the achievements.

  • Complete a level without dying

This can be gained on any level but is easiest and best on Chapter 1-2 [Anotherland]. As this is the first level and you have no marker or major enemies in your way, you can get this done and dusted here. If you have to, play the level at least once to learn where everything is and what you need to do, but remember there is no timer, so relax. Take it one step at a time, section by section and you'll be fine.

Dying in any way or having to restart a checkpoint will void this achievement. So if this happens, you'll need to restart the whole chapter. Any level you've completed without dying will show a medal on the chapter select page from the main menu.

  • Chapter 7-2 [Mustacho] is where you'll unlock this and it's also story related and cannot be missed.

  • Light 15 of your enemies on fire

Chapter 5-2 [Chamber of Fire] is where you'll unlock this.

You'll be near the end of the level when you first get a chance to kill an enemy with a fireball. After the first guy the next room will have 4 guys you can kill. Once you've dealt with them, simply restart the checkpoint and repeat. Though, in the coming levels there are plenty of chances to rack up the kills, so this should come naturally.

  • Draw 200 branches

This can be boosted on the very first branch you draw. First thing to take into account is that you do not need to draw the branch to its full length. Simply draw it so it just pops out of the spawn, then press to cut it down. Now keep repeating this and you'll have 200 in no time.

  • Draw 200 Vines

Chapter 2-3 [Father Oak] is where you can first unlock this.

This can be boosted on the very first vine you draw. First thing to take into account is that you do not need to draw the vine to its full height. Simply draw it so it just pops out of the spawn, then press to cut it down. Now keep repeating this and you'll have 200 in no time.

  • Draw 200 Water streams

Chapter 4-1 [The Scared Pool] is where you can first unlock this.

This can be boosted on the very first water stream you draw. First thing to take into account is that you do not need to draw the stream to its full length. Simply draw it so it just pops out of the spawn, then press to cut it down. Now keep repeating this and you'll have 200 in no time.

  • Make 5 critters explode and survive

Critters are little enemies that look like ticks. As soon as you get close, they dig into the ground and explode into a green cloud of gas. You should get this in the first chapter but it can be boosted at the very first one you come across. Make sure you survive its attack and then kill yourself with the quick sand. You'll respawn back near it and just repeat 4 more times.

  • Kill two enemies with one shot

Chapter 5-2 [Chamber of Fire], Chapter 6-1 [Mustacho's Dungeon] and Chapter 6-2 [Breakout] is where you can unlock this.

Near the end of the level you'll enter a room where there are 3 henchman sleeping below you. Shimmy across the rope and you'll be cut down by another and be tasked to run across the room to where you'll see a fireball spawn. Wait for the Henchman to catch up and draw a fireball to kill the first one. Now wait for the other two. These guys are a lot closer together, so draw your fireball right and land it in-between them for a double kill.

If you miss it there, you can get it at the start of the next chapter. You'll enter a room with a Bomber in the top right corner. Kill him with a fireball, then go stand on the switch in the middle of the room. This will trigger a few Henchman from either side of you. First kill the one on the right, then one the left. Another will spawn on the right, so dispatch of him. Now two Henchman will spawn on your left. Wait for them to come through the door, then launch a fireball directly down and you should get both in one hit.

Again, if you miss these two spots, the part where you save Felix will be the next one. You'll come to a point where you are attaching vines to the device Felix is in to help drop him down to the lower levels. When you make it to the bottom, 3 Henchman will try and attach. Right beside them is a fireball spawn. So draw and shoot one to kill 2 or all 3 in one shot.

  • Destroy all of Mustacho's Evil Eyes

Throughout each chapter and its levels, there will be a set of Mustacho's Evil Eyes you'll need to find and destroy. Some are along the paths you take, while others may be a little out off track. The Evil Eyes look like dead roots coming out of the ground and at the end of each one is an attached eyeball. Once you've found one, head up to it and simply press to destroy it. They do not attach or hurt you, so there's no need to keep your distance.

Once you've destroyed an Evil Eye, the game will save, so it does not matter if you die or restart the checkpoint/chapter. There's a total of 75 Evil Eyes to find and destroy through the game and to see your current total of the chapter you're on, press start and look in the top right corner. The dots will highlight depending on what one you've got or missed. So if the 1st and 3rd are highlighted, it means that somewhere in-between them two you've missed the 2nd Eye. For a guide on all the Evil Eye locations, please go HERE.

  • Recover all the pieces of the lost Amulet

Throughout each chapter and its levels, there will be 1 Amulet piece you'll need to find and collect. All are pretty much hidden and off the normal track you need to take. The Amulets look like small shards of metal and give of an orange glow, so look out for this when searching. Once you've found one, head up to it and you'll automatically grab it.

Once you've collected a piece of the Amulet, the game will save, so it does not matter if you die or restart the checkpoint/chapter. There's a total of 18 Amulet pieces you'll need to find through the game and to see your current total of the chapter you're on, press start and look in the top right corner. The dots will highlight depending on what one you've got or missed. For a guide on all the Amulet locations, please go HERE.

  • Rescue your brother without killing him

Chapter 6-2 [Breakout] is where you'll unlock this.

This achievement requires you to save Felix without him dying. After saving Felix, he'll be encased in a metal sphere which you'll need to roll. You'll then have to make your way through the level, controlling him and using your marker powers to get him through certain puzzles and obstacles. Overall I wouldn't say this achievements is hard, it just takes a little patience and time.

I'd recommend that you try and grab and keep hold of Felix as much as possible. This way there won't be any sudden rolling away at great speeds. Though the level is mapped out that Felix technically shouldn't roll over any edges, some times it can be a little too close for comfort. It's also worth noting that it's Felix who must not die. So you falling to your death is perfectly fine, but if Felix is about to die and you're fast enough, restart the checkpoint as this will cancel out his pending death.

  • Defeat Mustacho without dying

Chapter 7-2 [Mustacho] is where you'll unlock this

Mustacho is the final boss of the game. You'll have to be pretty fast and know what to do here when facing him if you don't want to die. The fight is set over 4 "rounds". The first 3 are for getting the electricity power back on and are all the same, and the last is for finally defeating Mustacho. Below is a round-by-round breakdown.

Round 1: Either side of the platform you're on are two breakable sections. The round starts off with Mustacho doing 3 fist slams. Take this chance to dodge but also use one of them to break away the floor on the left (feel free to do the right) side first. Once done, he'll place his had at one end of the ground and get ready to swipe across the map. Now use your marker to draw a fireball off the spawn on the side wall to hit his hand - this will now stun him.

From there, quickly build a pillar from the broken ground to get yourself up to the ledge. From the ledge, get ready and shoot another fireball at Mustacho. While he's stunned, use the water stream to reach the top of the power supply via the ladder. Climb up and then draw a vertical branch at it's full length.

Round 2: Now repeat round 1 and get up to the left (or right) platform again. You'll now need to connect the power batteries. Shoot a fierball to stun Mustacho and connect the top two batteries. Shoot another fireball at his face, then connect the other two.

Round 3: Now repeat round 2 but get up to the side you've yet to connect the batteries to.

Round 4: Mustacho will now do his 3 fist slams but at a faster rate. Keep dodging until he goes to swipe his hand across the map again. Draw a fireball to stop him doing this, then run to the closed side wall to you. When he rejoins the battle ground, he'll go in for another gas/vomit attack and this is where you shoot a fireball at his head. Repeat this process two more times making sure you're always on the far side of the map until he collapses in the middle. You're then told to connect the power batteries on the side of the map to his head. Doing this, will kill Mustacho and unlock the achievement.

  • Use the magic marker 25 times

Chapter 1-3 [Sea of Sand] is where you can first unlock this.

You can get this right at the start of the game by simply building a pillar, cutting it down and then repeating. If you don't boost, you'll still likely get this during the course of this chapter, if not the start of the next.

Please refer to "Tree of Life" for more details.

  • Recover 12 pieces of the lost Amulet.

Please refer to "Tree of Life" for more details.

  • Destroy 25 of Mustacho's Evil Eyes.

Please refer to "Kingdom of the Blind" for more information.

  • Destroy 50 of Mustacho's Evil Eyes.

Please refer to "Kingdom of the Blind" for more information.

  • Don't die in Death By Lava.

Chapter 6-3 [Death By Lava] is where you will unlock this. This isn't the easiest level to avoid dying, but it is pretty short. You are being constantly chased at first by a huge enemy, and then by lava, but you have at least a couple of seconds at each obstacle to work out what to do. Take a couple of practice runs to know the layout, shouldn't take you more than a few attempts.

  • Complete Sliding Escape without dying.

Chapter 3-3 [Sliding Escape] is where you will unlock this.

This is a chase level, that huge enemy will be pursuing you again. There are a couple of tricky bits in this one, but it is all about timing your jumps correctly. The game is pretty generous in the fact that you can leap way further than the objects you have to jump over, so make sure you jump early to avoid getting snagged. The second to last rope swing will cause you the most problems, as the way the rope swings back with your weight on it seems to be pretty random and sometimes when you release you will come up short. As the level is pretty short, it isn't too painstaking to retry, and should only take a handful of attempts.

  • The box is the key to the wall.

Chapter 1-5 [The Crossing] is where you'll unlock this.

About 3/4 of the way through the level, just at the point of grabbing the Evil Eye #12, you'll have a large wooden crate to move about. Simply grab the crate, and pull it so that it's edge is just over a small part of either pillar spawn on the floor. Now draw a pillar and this should flip the crate upright. Now drag it over the 2nd glowing section, and draw both pillars so that you can reach the top. Once you've reach the top and new area, the achievement will unlock.
