Warning: This guide is based on using a cheat code to enable god mode and to give you enough photons (money) to purchase everything in order to unlock all the achievements as quick as possible. If you have issues with using built-in developer exploits, I suggest you read no further and play at your own leisure. For the purposes of this guide, it will be assumed that you are using the cheat code.

Introduction:
"Of Tanks and Demons III - it's the new game with the vibe of classic arcades of 80's. Collect photons, shoot demons, buy new tanks and improve them. Don't rely on brute force solely! Sometimes you need to outsmart your enemy, not just outgun them with bullets.

At the end of 2020, the worst thing in history of mankind has happened - gates of Hell has opened and let the hellish hordes of demons run wildly on Earth. For the hellspawns, the human weapons were not much of a threat. It looked as though the human race had no hope left for survival. But in the darkest hour the glimpse of hope, the ray of light appeared, and so it happened: the group of American scientists, with Dr. Gusev as their lead scientist, invented the special photon cannons that can easily tear demon flesh apart. New photon weapons were installed on advanced tank models, created by Greenrunner Industries Corporation. But there was a problem with tanks; they can be operated only by those who created it. These people were genius engineers of their time, but when they opposed the government they were imprisoned as war criminals. Facing the total destruction of all life on Earth, the government decided to make a compromise. Now there is only one way for Travis Greenrunner and his people to get their freedom back - to drive away the demon scum to the place they crawled out from!" - microsoft.com

This game plays similarly to Pac-Man where you have monsters chasing you around a maze while needing to pick up pellets (called photons). The level ends when all of the photons are collected. Once that happens, the remaining monsters are sucked into a portal and a shuttle comes to pick you up. There are also five bosses you need to defeat as you make your way through 23 levels.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
In order to enter the cheat code, at the main menu, select ‘New Game’. Then press :1b: to return to the main menu to see that a ‘Continue’ selection is now there. Enter (with the D-Pad) :1up: :1up: :1down: :1down: :1up: :1up: :1right: :1left: :1left: :1right: then press :1x: and a new menu will pop up on the screen. Here you can turn on ‘God Mode’ and give yourself photons. Then select ‘Continue’ to advance to the level select screen.

Before moving on, press :1x: to enter the Shop. You need to purchase all five tanks, from left to right, to unlock three achievements. Then press :1b: to return to the level select screen and choose the first level. When you do, you can upgrade your tank fully for two more achievements. When you are done, press :1menu: to play.

To earn the rest of the achievements, you simply need to play through Level 23. With ‘God Mode’ enabled, this will not be difficult at all. Just move around the maze collecting photons and eliminating monsters. You have limited ammo and nitro but a shuttle will be deployed to drop more of each sporadically to replenish both.

Note: In order to collect the large photons, you need to capture them, which takes approximately four seconds.

Aside from the three bosses you need to defeat to earn achievements (in Level 3, 8 and 23), there are two other ones you need to defeat as you progress to the final boss:

  • Devastator - Encountered on Level 15. This boss takes about 12 hits, but doesn’t take damage when on the pedestal
  • Dendroid - Encountered on Level 19. This boss takes about 15 hits, but doesn’t take damage when it’s twisting
There is one achievement not related to progression, and that’s for not leaving a level until the music stops (which takes approximately 45-60 seconds after the pick-up shuttle arrives.

Conclusion:
Playing the game as intended, I don't even want to speculate how much longer or more difficult this game would be. As with many Victory Road games, the provided cheat code makes this game for us achievement hunters a breeze to play. Congratulations on another 1000:1gs:!

Of Tanks and Demons III Achievement Guide

Show completed achievements
Show secret achievements

There are 17 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Beat the first boss

The first boss you meet is the Fire Golem on Level 3. If using the God mode cheat and upgraded ship, this is a very straightforward boss. The boss will alternate between two lava pits on the left- and right-side of the screen. All you need to do is to shoot and hit it 5 times to defeat it.

For a visual of what needs to be done, watch from [6:55] in OverHyped Gamer's walkthrough video.
  • Complete five levels

Refer to Wonderful journey! (200G) for more information.
  • Beat the second boss

The second boss you meet is Red Spike on Level 8. If using the God mode cheat and upgraded ship, this is a very straightforward boss. The boss will spawn then chase after you. All you need to do is to shoot and hit it 8 times to defeat it.

For a visual of what needs to be done, watch from [16:00] in OverHyped Gamer's walkthrough video.
  • Complete ten levels

Refer to Wonderful journey! (200G) for more information.
  • Complete twelve levels

To unlock the three level completion achievements, all you need to do is play through Level 12. It's a cake walk if you're using the God mode cheat as all you need to do for each level is to collect all the photons in the level. Without the cheat, the game will be infinitely more difficult.

Also, by the time you reach Level 12, you should have unlocked all the achievements except Devil just cried (100G). But if you haven't, you still need to play through Level 23 for that achievement so there's still plenty of time to obtain them.
  • Beat the final boss

The final boss you meet is Winter Slave on Level 23. If using the God mode cheat and upgraded ship, this is a very straightforward boss. The boss is stationary in the center of the map. Its attacks are hurling energy balls, shooting a beam while rotating and spawning ice boulders.

Inflicting damage on this boss is very inconsistent. You would think to shoot it when it isn't attacking but those hits are not always successful. Plus, shooting it while it is attacking sometimes does damage. You are going to require many ammo refills before you finally defeat this boss. It should only take you 2-4 minutes.

  • Purchase a THUNDER

Refer to Fully stuffed (50G) for more information.
  • Purchase a HELL BUSTER

Refer to Fully stuffed (50G) for more information.
  • Purchase a RED SHADOW

Refer to Fully stuffed (50G) for more information.
  • Purchase your first upgrade

Refer to Fully stuffed (50G) for more information.
  • Purchase all upgrades for one tank

To enable the cheat code, at the main menu, select 'New Game', which will advance you to the level select screen. Next, press :1b: to go back to the main menu then enter (with the D-Pad) :1up: :1up:  :1down: :1down: :1up: :1up: :1right: :1left: :1left: :1right: then press :1x:. It will bring you to the cheat menu, so turn on 'God Mode', select 'Get 10000 Photons' then select 'Back'. But, there is an error in the game; instead of giving you 10,000 photons, it gives you 100,000 photons, which is more than enough to purchase all the tanks and upgrades in the game.

Next, select 'Continue' and it will bring you to the level select screen. You also have the option to enter the shop, so press :1x:. Here you can purchase all five tanks. You need a total of 28,500 photons.

There are five tanks to purchase:
IMPORTANT: In order to unlock the three achievements properly, you need to purchase the tanks in left-to-right order (cheapest to most expensive). If you skip ahead and just purchase the Red Shadow, since it's the most powerful tank, the game automatically purchases all the other tanks and prevents you from manually purchasing anything lesser, thus voiding the other tank achievements for your current playthrough. If this happens, back out to the main menu and select 'New Game'. You will have to repeat the cheat code procedure.

Once that is done, select the most recent level (if you just started the game, it will be Level 1, 'Green place'). You will enter a lobby where you can purchase upgrades for your tank.

There are four categories of upgrades for a tank:

    • Speed (cost = 1,200 photons)
    • Weapon (cost = 2,800 photons)
    • Armor (cost = 1,200 photons)
    • Nitro (cost = 2,800 photons)
To upgrade all four categories, you need a total of 8,000 photons. Select an upgrade and press :1a: until you've purchased everything for that category (four times). Repeat for the other three upgrades.
  • Kill 72 monsters

To shoot, press :1a: or :1rt:. If using the God mode cheat, monsters cannot damage you, so it's just a matter of shooting and killing as many as you can while you are collecting photons. Since ammo and nitro refills are randomly dropped by a shuttle many times throughout each level, as long as you are killing monsters consistently and replenishing your ammo, this should unlock before or by Level 10.
  • Use boost 60 times

To use nitro, press :1x: or :1lt:. Whether you are using the God mode cheat or not, using nitro boosts your speed around the level for a short time. It's especially handy if you need to collect photons down a long stretch. You have up to five boosts before it needs to be refilled by a random shuttle drop (it could drop ammo as well). If you're consistently using your boost and replenishing it when you can, this should unlock before or by Level 10.
  • Collect 50 photons

Refer to Photon maniac (30G) for more information.
  • Collect 100 photons

Refer to Photon maniac (30G) for more information.
  • Collect 150 photons

Photons act like money to purchase tanks and upgrades. In order to complete a level, you need to collect all the photons, both large and small. For large photons, you need to stop on it while the percentage increases to 100% (which takes about four seconds). There are approximately 100 photons in each level (some more, some less). This should unlock before you complete Level 2.
  • Don't leave a level after it ends

After you collect all the photons in a level, a shuttle is dispatched to pick you up. Instead of immediately entering the shuttle to exfiltrate the level, wait 45-60 seconds until the achievement unlocks.

Author's Note: The achievement is supposed to unlock when the in-level music ends, but in my playthrough, the music hadn't ended by the time the achievement unlocked. Just don't enter the shuttle until the achievement unlocks.
