Introduction:
Oxenfree is a "supernatural thriller" adventure game about a group of friends uncovering the secrets and mysteries of a small island town. It has a very unique art style, great story, and solid voice acting. The game requires three full playthroughs to get all the achievements, though the game is fairly short (4-5 hours your first time). Please play through the game once blind if you do not wish the story to be spoiled for you, and stop reading right now. The steps listed below spoil the game's endings.

Note: This roadmap and guide contain spoilers.

Step 1: 'Nice' Playthrough
During this playthrough, you will be trying to get Ren and Nona to date, keeping Jonas as your step-brother, getting all collectibles, and doing the one random optional achievement for jumping the chasm. You will earn:

  • It's A Me
  • Adler Letters, Pt 1+2+3
  • Ghost Stories
  • Matchmaker
  • New Beginnings
  • "This House is Clear"

To make sure you get all these achievements, make these important choices during the story:

  • Do not accuse Ren of lying during Truth or Slap
  • Talk to Nona before jumping the fence on the beach
  • Go help Ren first after visiting the Comm Tower
  • Do not blame Jonas for what happened in the caves
  • Get all the answers right in the army base (US Army RCS, Cookies, 85)
  • Take Jonas with you to Main Street
  • Talk to Nona at Maggie Adler's house, before resolving the time loop
  • Find all the items at Maggie Adler's (TV in bottom left, painting in top left, picture in top right)
  • Do not accept the ghost's proposal regarding Clarissa
  • Talk to Nona at Bridge Stand, before resolving the time loop (and make sure you tell her that Ren knew she liked him)
  • Hug everyone before entering the bunker
  • Help Jonas with the tape player inside the bunker
  • Close the gate when you are underwater (rather than walking away)
  • Make sure Michael stays dead (refer to "Thicker Than Water")

Step 2: 'Mean' Playthrough
During this playthrough, you will be keeping Ren and Nona apart, making all your friends hate you, and bringing your brother back from the dead. You will earn:

  • Renjamin Spanklin
  • You'd Just End Up Hating Each Other
  • Thicker Than Water
  • I'm the Firestarter

To make sure you get these, see the instructions for Step 1 (the 'Nice' playthrough) and do the exact opposite. See "I'm the Firestarter" for a full list of the reversed actions.

Step 3: 'Silent' Playthrough
For this playthrough, there won't be any other achievements left except "The Strong, Silent Type", so simply go from objective to objective and never choose any of the dialogue options to unlock that and finish the 1000.

  • Make enemies with all of your friends.

    For this achievement, you have to take as many actions as possible that will upset your friends. I don't know exactly how many of these are required, but just do them all during your 'Mean' playthrough (Step 2 in the roadmap) to be safe.

    • Accuse Ren of lying during Truth or Slap, and slap him (see the "Renjamin Spanklin" achievement)
    • Do not talk to Nona before jumping the fence on the beach
    • Go help Clarissa first after visiting the Comm Tower
    • Blame Jonas for what happened in the caves
    • Get all the answers wrong in the army base (the correct answers are US Army RCS, Cookies, 85 - so pick others or say nothing)
    • Take Nona with you to Main Street

    • Do not find all the items at Maggie Adler's (the correct items are TV in bottom left, painting in top left, picture in top right - just do nothing during this scene)

    • Do not hug anyone before entering the bunker
    • Do not help Jonas with the tape player inside the bunker

    • Bring Michael back to life (refer to "Thicker Than Water")

    Some of these aren't tied specifically to this achievement, but are important for all the achievements you'll want to do during this playthrough, so I included them to be thorough.

  • Slap Ren in the face.

    When you first reach the island, you'll immediately go down to the beach and play Truth or Slap. On Clarissa's turn, she will ask Ren if he likes Nona. He will say he only likes her as a friend, and you must choose the next two dialogue options: "He's lying!" and "He told me he liked her!". After these two, you will have the option to slap him for lying, which you can do by walking up to him and pressing .

  • Jump the crazy chasm in the woods.

    When you reach the "Towhee Woods" location, you will be walking right to left and cross a bridge. From the end of this bridge, you can climb down some rocks, or keep moving left and press to jump a rather large gap. Do the latter, and you'll catch the ledge on the other side and climb up, unlocking the achievement.

  • Find all of the hidden anomalies.

    You can begin collecting the letters and finding the anomalies after you go back to Main Street and get the new radio that has more stations to search. Gaming Since Gaming has made a very simple to follow video guide for all the collectibles which you can watch below, which starts as soon as you get the new radio and takes you to the locations you'll need to progress the story as well.

    Entering the bomb shelter is the point of no return, so you'll want to do all the collectibles before entering there.

    Note: The anomaly in Towhee Woods is mislabled in the video and comments as 104.7.  It is in actuality 103.5.

 

Secret achievements

  • Bring Michael back from the dead.

    In the very last scene of the game, there is an important choice to make that will change depending on how Michael and Clarissa's relationship turned out. If you nudged them together and he mentions they are thinking about leaving together, say "Don't Go" but if they have broken up, say "Go to school here". This will ensure that there is no going away party, which is when he drowned. Hence, he lives.

    You will get this achievement automatically during your 'Silent' playthrough if you don't do it during your 'Mean' playthrough. For some reason not saying anything to him makes him assume you want him to stay, so he does.

  • Play the whole game without saying anything.

    The description for this is a bit misleading, as Alex will often speak no matter what you do. The real trick is to just make sure you never select a dialogue bubble with , , or . Ignore all these bubbles and let them disappear. So long as the only button you press during the entire game is , you will unlock the achievement. As I mentioned before, you'll talk often when pressing , but these dialogue lines do not affect the achievement.

    Note: There is ONE unavoidable scene where you are required to use , , or ; right at the end of the game, the very last choice you can make about what you chose to do after the adventure.

  • Get Ren and Nona to date.

    There are a number of things during the game that will influence their relationship. I am not sure how many of them are required for the proper result, but do them all during your 'Nice' playthrough to ensure they start dating.

    • Before jumping the fence at the beach, tell Jones to wait and go talk to Nona. Steer the conversation toward Ren if possible.
    • When choosing someone to go to Main Street with, choose Jonas so that Nona and Ren stay at the tower together.
    • At Maggie Adler's house, talk to Nona before resolving the time loop with the tape players. Again, talk about Ren.
    • At Bridge Stand, talk to Nona before resolving the time loop with the tape players. Make sure you mention that Ren knew she liked him.
  • Keep Ren and Nona from dating.

    Refer back to "Matchmaker" and do the exact opposite of all those steps. Basically, just never talk to Nona when it's optional and take her with you to Main Street so she doesn't spend time with Ren.

    You will get this achievement automatically during your 'Silent' playthrough if you don't do it during your 'Mean' playthrough. Since you'll skip talking to Nona to stay silent, you'll never influence her to like Ren.

  • Jonas is your new step-brother.

    Refer back to "Thicker Than Water" and do the exact opposite. Basically, make sure Michael leaves town with Clarissa or goes to school if they broke up so that he dies in the past during his going away party, then Jonas becomes your step-brother in the present (rather than Michael coming back to life).
