Introduction:
Pneuma: Breath of Life is an [email protected] game made by Deco Digital, released on February 27, 2015 for $20, as a timed console exclusive. Pneuma: Breath of Life is a first-person puzzle game centred around a single character observing around the world around him. Gameplay and puzzles focus around perspective and observation while you interact with the world.

The developer description for the game is as follows: "Pneuma provides players with a sense of awe and a relentless determination to solve every puzzle and progress through a narrated story of self-discovery, exploring the fundamental nature of being."

With a full puzzle guide, the game can be completed extremely quickly; under an hour. Although I would personally recommend that players experience the game the way it was intended, by figuring out the puzzles for themselves, resorting to a guide if they find themselves stuck. An initial first playthrough will take anywhere from 2-4+ hours depending on the player, and would then require players to mop up the three extra puzzles afterwards.

Story Mode:
This is the only game mode within the game, alongside some audio/video options available in the menu. Start a "New Game" from the main menu or "Continue" if you leave the game and come back another time. You can also use "Chapter Select" to pick up at the beginning of a chapter if you wish. Completing the game will automatically grant you 8/11 achievements for 850, and can be done within 1-4+ hours depending on speed and puzzle skill.

Additional Puzzles:
The game also has three additional puzzles that are not required for game progression, although they can be done while going through for the first time. They are listed as the Spirit, Body and Soul Puzzles. The Spirit & Soul puzzles can be completed during your first playthrough or mopped up using chapter select after completing the game, however the Soul puzzle must be done after completing the game, and involves a little more time and effort than the other two. Please view the individual achievements for further help with these.

Conclusion:
Pneuma: Breath of Life is a short and unique first-person puzzle game experience. It can be completed rather quickly, and there are no hard achievements standing between you and the completion. So enjoy your time with the game, because it'll be over before you know it!

  • Spirit

    50

    Completed the Spirit Puzzle

This takes place on Chapter Two. There are a total of five flames that can be toggled using your line of sight, and you need need to have all five active at the same time while standing in front of the "flame" door which can be found in the second room.

The first flame is found directly in front of you when you spawn in the corner of the room. The second and third flame can be seen on either side of the doorway leading to the second room. The fourth flame can be seen shortly afterwards, upon descending the stairs it is seen standing in a corner before going through an "automatically opening" door. The fifth flame is seen after going through the next door backwards, around the corner. After viewing all five flames, make sure that the last time you looked at them, they were active, and return to the door at the top of the stairs. If all five flames are lit, the door opens.

Once inside, you must raise the bridge using vertical movement. Jump while looking at the eye, and look away while falling to continuously raise the bridge, until you can walk towards the pillar to unlock the achievement.

  • Body

    50

    Completed the Body Puzzle

This takes place on Chapter Three. Proceed until you drain the water using the red buttons, and drop down and go behind the stairs to find a 4x3 grid puzzle. The explanation of the puzzle is a little confusing, so bear with me, but the rules are as follows:

    • Cells in your line of sight are active.
    • Moving forward fills active cells.
    • Moving backwards shrinks active cells.
    • Cells will only be filled if ALL active cells have room to be filled.

The video above shows the most straight forward solution to this puzzle, using only four steps, but if you find that you made a mistake along the way, just try to shrink cells back to older state, and work with corners and rows. Take jumping to your advantage as well, since all of the bottom cells can be filled on their own if you jump into them.

After completing the grid, the door behind you will open. Walk through the hallway onto the balcony. Now, you can make the small black planet follow your cursor around the screen, and you'll want to block the sun. Once you do that, a pillar will arise, and the achievement will unlock.

  • Soul

    50

    Completed the Soul Puzzle

This required you to view five paintings, in a specific order using chapter select. After viewing a painting, the scene will change to a night sky. While looking at it, pause the game and select "Quit" and continue to the next one using chapter select. The paintings are as follows:

    1. Chapter Six: On your way to puzzle IV, you will walk over a half cylinder. While on the cylinder, move sideways to the left or right, and then you will eventually fall to the lower ground. Now move sideways towards the middle, and you'll go under the half cylinder. When you bring it to the middle, you'll notice a staircase underneath it. Walk down, hide from the eyes (behind a bench) in order to allow the door to open and make a run to the newly opened room. Once inside, find the painting marked with a "I," and then continue the rest of the sequence without breaking it.
    2. Chapter One: Continue through the level until you descend a large white spiral staircase. Look up to open the door at the bottom, and find this painting directly in front of you at the end of the hall after passing through the door.
    3. Chapter 5 - Part I: Continue through these puzzles until you end up at the circular treadmill puzzle. In this area, you can find the painting at the wall.
    4. Chapter Two: Continue until you have to rotate a bridge 90 degrees in order to cross a gap. After crossing the gap, there is an eye that opens the door out of this room, and the painting can be found directly behind it.
    5. Chapter Six: Same room as Painting I, but on the wall directly in front of you as you walk in. Do not turn and view Painting I, or this resets the sequence.

Viewing the above paintings, in the correct sequence will open a door in the final room. Walk forward to find a pillar and unlock the achievement.

  • Completed the Game

Completing the game will require players to navigate through a prologue, six chapters and an epilogue. Make your way through the puzzles in order to reach the end of the level, and continue doing so until you complete the game.
