No Introduction:Developed by Airship Syndicate and featuring the art style of legendary comic book artist Joe Madureira, creators of Battle Chasers and Darksiders, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is the first Riot Forge game that invites you to explore the League of Legends universe. In this immersive turn-based RPG, you will have the freedom to configure your party and control an unlikely group of League of Legends champions, explore the bustling city of Bilgewater and the mysterious Shadow Isles, and experience the Lane Initiative System.
Step 1: Complete the Story on HeroicThe four difficulty achievements all stack, so start right on Heroic so you only have to do one playthrough. The beginning of the game will be a little rough, but once you get some ability points assigned and a full team, the game gets much easier. I stuck with Braum, Illaoi, and Pyke. Pump as much crit chance and crit damage into Pyke as you can, and stack as many debuffs on enemies as possible. Some turns they can take as much damage in bleed/poison/etc as you might dish out from an attack of your own. Braum can tank using taunts and adding shields while Illaoi heals and backs up with damage (I love her tentacles for adding extra damage and debuffs). Anything that adds chance to crit, debuffs, regenerate health, or add shields is a good choice for the abilities and runes.
While going through the story, complete any side-quests, bounties, and collectibles you come across. You need all the experience you can get to keep up with enemy levels, so kill everything you can. Also, any time you use a rest point be sure to view any skits that are available. These aren't missable, but it's best to work on them as you go. If you need a walkthrough to help you with the story, any quests, or the collectibles - I found
this one to be extremely detailed.
MISSABLE: There is only one missable thing in the game, which is a bestiary entry for
Apex Predator (30G). Very early in the game you'll come to a bridge and a Pickpocket enemy will demand 50 Gold to let you pass. Make sure you decline this offer and kill him instead! This is the only Pickpocket in the game, and he must be killed to complete the Bestiary.
Step 2: Post-Game GrindAfter completing the story, you can feel free to lower the difficulty if you'd like. There's no reason not to make the rest of the grind easier on yourself. So now is the time to finish up said Bestiary, arena battles, collect the remaining lore, get the legendary weapons if you haven't yet, finish up any bounties, and start fishing to complete the journal.
Step 3: Mop UpThe last thing you should need is to purchase all the alternate skins for your characters, which cost quite a few Black Marks. You should have enough after completing the Fishing Journal, but if not you can continue to fish and sell those to the Fishmonger to make up what you're missing.
Conclusion:This game is really, really good. If you've played Battle Chasers you will definitely know what you're getting, as it shares the same JoeMad art style and most of the same turn-based mechanics, though the "lane" mechanic was something unique that I enjoyed. Even if you have no interest in League of Legends, this is a must play IMO. However, after playing this and watching Arcane on Netflix, I certainly have a developing fondness for LoL, despite no desire to play the original MOBA. It's a very cool world with excellent characters. The achievements in this a fairly simple, with only a single missable thing very early in the story. Make sure you don't miss that and you're home free.
