Introduction:
Welcome to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, a collection of all 13 TMNT games from the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and Arcade, together in one bundle. Like many of these collections, there are extra features added, all of which make the games more accessible and easier to play and complete. However, for those going for the completion, you can abuse some of these key features to make most of this a walk in the park. Get ready for some serious nostalgia, and let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
There are 13 achievements and 13 games - one achievement for beating each game in the collection. For 11 of the 13 games, you can make them all trivial by exploiting the "Watch Game" feature. The only two games this can't be used for are Tournament Fighters (GEN) and Tournament Fighters (SN). This DOES work for Tournament Fighters (N). Essentially, you can watch the game being completed until the end, then start the game from the last moment before it's beaten, beat it yourself, and get the achievement. Refer to Gnarly Greatness (70G) for all of the exact steps you need to do to make this exploit work, as it's not just as simple as jumping in right at the end. This will make each game take a minute or so to complete, for those 11 games.

For the remaining two games, you have to do a bit of work to get those achievements, but it isn't too bad considering you can still use other features to help get through them. Refer to each individual achievement in the guide for the steps to take to make those achievements as easy as possible. That'll wrap up this completion.

Conclusion:
Tons of really good games in this collection, but if you're just going for the completion, you likely didn't play much of them. I highly recommend at least enjoying the arcade games after getting this completion, because they're a lot of fun in co-op with friends. Hopefully you enjoyed the trip down memory lane, didn't get too frustrated with the fighting games, and got this completion in under an hour. Congrats!

For each of these achievements for completing these games, you can eliminate all difficulty by following these steps:

    1. Highlight the game you want to play and press button-x.png to Watch it being played
    2. Use rt.png to fast forward to the end of the game, where the boss fight is taking place
    3. Go back and forth a little bit to find a moment relatively close to the end of the final boss fight, before the killing blow is landed
    4. Press button-x.png to jump into the game
    5. Immediately press rb.png to pause and pull up the menu
    6. Choose to "Save Game"
    7. Choose to "Quit"
    8. Press button-a.png to start playing the same game
    9. Press rb.png to pull up the menu once in the game
    10. Choose to "Load Game"
    11. You'll now be playing against the final boss right at the end. Hit him to finish him off, completing the game and unlocking the associated achievement
For more of these games, the associated achievement unlocks as soon as you land the killing blow, or very shortly after. The original TMNT for NES doesn't unlock until you jump out of the Shredder room, so feel free to resume that one after the boss is already beaten.
  • Defeat Karai in TMNT: Tournament Fighters’ Story Battle (SN)

This is the toughest achievement in the game, because you need to play through this entire game legit. However, there are a few things you can do to make this easier.

    • First is to definitely leave the difficulty at the default 3. You can still get the achievement on this difficulty, but it can't be any lower or you won't get the achievement
    • Set the round time to 30 so it's as short as possible. This makes it possible to win matches from running out of time
    • Set the game speed to the fastest. You want rounds to end as quick as possible to improve the chances of winning by running out of time
Your character comes down to preference, but I went with Donatello because you don't need to learn any real moves. I primarily would just spam button-y.png over and over. This worked well on over half of the opponents. For others, I would crouch and mash button-b.png to do a sliding kick. This worked well on a handful of opponents too, especially Karai at the end. Those are the only two moves I used the entire playthrough, but just be aware you can't always just spam one and that's it. You can try, but if it fails and you take huge damage, use the Rewind feature with lb.png and try a different tactic (jump away, slide kick instead of staff, or vice versa, etc.) until you find something that works, rewinding over and over. Rounds go pretty quick, so as long as you can do more damage to them than they can to you, you can jump around to try to kill time to win that way.

There are a bunch of fights, and it can be a little slow going in some fights against quick opponents, but keep at it and you'll eventually win each fight. Remember to make a Save after every single fight you win, so you can Load it if need be in case you mess up.
  • Defeat the real Karai in TMNT: Tournament Fighters’ 1 Player Mode (GEN)

Before starting this game, highlight the tile and press button-page.png to bring up its Enhancements. From this menu, make sure to turn on Playable Bosses, Ultimate Attacks in Story Mode, and Max Speed. Launch the game and go to Options. Make sure the rounds are set to 1, speed is highest, and the Difficulty is set to 8. This last thing is most important, because the "real Karai" only shows up on the final boss if you're playing on the highest difficulty.

If you have a second controller, use the following steps to make this much faster and easier.

    1. Start the game and choose Karai as your character (upper right corner, shadow in the background). Set your speed and power to 8. Pick your planet to start the playthrough
    2. When the match starts, take note of who your opponent is (i.e. Raph, Casey, etc.), and press button-menu.png on your second controller to join in
    3. With your second controller, choose the exact same opponent that you were going to be fighting against. Set power and speed to 8 to be safe
    4. Beat your second player with your main controller. This tricks the game into thinking you beat that stage, and lets you move on to the next
    5. Repeat this with all 11 stages, which is all 8 regular characters and then the first two bosses, Triceraton and Krang.
    6. When the final stage against Karai starts, make sure to press rb.png and choose to Save before the fight, so you have a save in case you mess up and die
You now need to actually beat Karai in a legit match on the hardest difficulty. However, you can make this easier on yourself by using the Rewind feature with lb.png. If you mess up or take a lot of damage, hold lb.png to rewind time and try a different tactic. If you mess up too bad and can't rewind enough, you can always pause and Load your game to start the fight over. Personally, I found jump kicks with button-a.png to be pretty reliable, and just kicking with button-a.png in general. If you get close, pressing button-a.png near your opponent does a throw that does huge damage. Exploit Rewind and your save to finish one round against Karai. Once you beat her, you'll unlock this achievement.

If you don't have a second controller, you unfortunately need to fight every match legit. However, you absolutely should still be saving at the start of every fight, and abusing the Rewind feature to minimize damage you take. It will take longer this way, and be more frustrating, but it's doable. I would still recommend playing as Karai, because her attacks do a lot of damage and the AI seems to have a harder time predicting her attacks.
