Introduction:
Welcome to The Mummy Demastered, a 2D Metroidvania very loosely based on the movie of the same name. The gameplay in this is nearly identical to Super Metroid or, more recently, Shadow Complex. You'll explore a handful of different areas, unlock a bunch of weapons and abilities, and open up more of the map to get more upgrades - your usual Metroidvania fare. Despite being based on a movie and having a weird name, this game is actually pretty enjoyable. There is just one missable achievement to worry about, but it's not that bad at all. More on that below. Let's get started.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
This most important thing to mention is the only missable achievement - Undead Agent (100G), which encompasses Close Call (15G) as well. You need to beat the game without dying. Don't worry - this isn't bad at all. Refer to Undead Agent (100G) for an easy workaround to ensure you don't miss this achievement, and it makes things so much less stressful. I don't mean to imply this game is difficult, because it isn't at all. There are a few sections that can be annoying because of infinite spawning enemies, but bosses are all incredibly simple (one phase and one attack each), and enemies are pretty easy to predict.

Aside from that, like all Metroidvanias, no real walkthrough is required. Progress, explore, find upgrades, open up new areas, etc. This game has a pretty simple map and is relatively linear. You'll likely find a bunch of things through natural progression. Feel free to double back each time you unlock a new upgrade, but I recommend just waiting until you beat the fourth boss and unlock the ability to go underwater. Once you have that and Phase Dash, you can collect everything on the map in preparation for the final area of the game. If at any point you need anything, help finding a weapon or upgrade, etc., refer to the map linked in Wrapping Things Up (100G). Demajen, who is known for creating high quality Metroidvania maps, has done it again for this game. Utilize his map to track down anything you're after.

Once you reach the end of the game, you should definitely take some time to mop up the entire map. You can reach 100% of items collected before the final boss fight, but only 95% map completion by then. Refer to Wrapping Things Up (100G) and World of Gods and Monsters (75G) for more information. Once you've gotten to 100% items and 95% map completion, go beat the final boss, escape, and if you've done everything, you'll unlock Wrapping Things Up (100G), World of Gods and Monsters (75G), and Undead Agent (100G) after the credits finish rolling.

If you actually didn't die the entire game, you can mop up My Enemy, Myself (5G) and Takes a Monster to Defeat a Monster (25G) by reloading your save file. Just head back to the starting area of the game, die on purpose, then kill your zombie self to unlock those two achievements.

Conclusion:
This game was surprisingly fun. Pretty simple, and plays nearly identical to Super Metroid, but a short and fun little game that was definitely worth the price. I recommend checking it out on sale if you want a fun and easy completion. As long as you use the save backup workaround, this completion should be no problem. Congrats!

  • Escape to the chopper after defeating Ahmanet

This achievement unlocks upon getting the "good" ending by actually escaping after defeating Ahmanet in the final boss fight. After you beat her, you need to escape the caves in a series of pretty simple platforming rooms, with no enemies. Rocks fall randomly, and there's basically nothing you can do about them. Keep moving, and once you get to the surface, head out the exit in the upper right corner to reach the chopper. Enter it to get the good ending and unlock this achievement.

If you die during this sequence, you get the bad ending. You'll need to reload your save before the fight, beat Ahmanet again, then escape successfully to get this achievement.
  • Beat the game without dying

    *MISSABLE*

Note: This achievement won't unlock until AFTER the credits finish rolling.

Despite the difficulty this achievement implies, there's actually a pretty simple workaround to ensure you don't miss this achievement. If you've played Ori and the Blind Forest, it's the exact same concept: this game lets you copy your save file into open save slots. So, all you need to do is keep your save "backed up" by copying it to a separate save slot. That way, if you do die, you can copy your deathless save back over the save where you died, and resume to still get your achievement.

Specifically, each time you save your save in a save room, pause and quit out to the main menu. When you open up your save files, go down to Copy and press button-a.png, then go to your current deathless save file (the bottom of the save file will show how many deaths you have) and press button-a.png on it, and then go to the save slot next to it and press button-a.png to copy your save. Every time you save in game, quit out and do that, and you'll constantly have a current backup of your save. It might sound tedious, but you won't be saving that often (I had 50 saves per the credits screen when I finished), and it's worth it. This game isn't very difficult, but early on you're more likely to die than later when you have significantly more upgrades and health.

If you do die, quit out to the main menu, but this time copy your backup save (the one that still shows zero deaths) and paste it over top of your save with a death. That allows you to resume playing without missing this achievement.
  • Use Rappel Gear

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

You'll find and unlock the Rappel Gear as part of the story after the first boss fight. You can then head to any of the green squares and use the Rappel Gear to drop down to a different area of the map.
  • Collect 100% of items

Note: This achievement doesn't unlock until AFTER the credits finish rolling.

This achievement requires you to collect the following things:

    • All 7 Weapons
    • All 3 Explosives
    • All 7 Area Maps
    • All 15 Bandoliers
    • All 10 Health Packs
    • All 50 Relics
    • All 8 upgrades (4 scrolls and 4 trinkets)
    • The Rappel Gear
You will likely find all weapons, explosives, area maps, bandoliers, health packs, and upgrades just by exploring, but the 50 relics are another story. Each relic is inside a breakable object, such as a crate, lamp, etc. These are a bit of a pain, because there's no way to track which ones you've found and which ones you're missing. I therefore recommend keeping track of relics you find along the way, or at least which map area you found them in, because that'll make mopup much easier. I spent an hour tracking down my last relic, and you don't want to get stuck doing that.

Thankfully, the legandary demajen has created a map for this game that shows all of the things listed above, the locations of all bosses, and pretty much anything you'd need to know. It can be found HERE. Full credit to him and the great work he puts into Metroidvania maps.
  • Discover of the 100% Map

Note: This achievement doesn't unlock until AFTER the credits finish rolling.

As the description says, this achievement requires you to uncover all square tiles on the map. Note that this achievement won't be possible until you beat the game, as there are a bunch of squares (around 5% of the map completion percentage) that you'll get during the escape sequence after beating the final boss. Taking care of 100% of the items as listed in Wrapping Things Up (100G) will nearly complete the map. Make sure you take care of any darkened squares, such as the ones high up in the beginning area of the game, which just require you to jump up once you have the jump height scroll, and a few other areas like this. You can compare your map to the one in Wrapping Things Up (100G) to make sure you have everything filled in before fighting the final boss. During the final boss fight (or just after) make sure you fill in the complete four-square arena by jumping up on each side of the arena to fill it in. Then, during the escape sequence, you'll get the remaining 5%.
  • Kill an Undead Agent

This achievement first requires you to die (which voids Undead Agent (100G)), unlocking My Enemy, Myself (5G). After you die, you respawn at your last save but you lose literally everything you had - all guns, health upgrades, etc. You now need to return to where you died and kill the zombie version of you. Do so to unlock this achievement (and get back your gear).

Refer to Wrapping Things Up (100G) for more information.
  • Defeat the Giant Arachnid

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the first boss of the game, and like all boss fights, it has a very simple attack pattern. It'll either shoot down a row of acid bubbles, which you just need to step away from, it'll drop three rocks, and these essentially target your position so keep moving, or it'll drop out four little spider enemies. Kill these to get some health back or some ammo.

That's all it does. Stay on the platform next to the one it's above and just shoot at it at an angle, only moving if the acid gets close to you or to avoid the rocks, and that's it for this fight.
  • Defeat Ammit

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the second boss of the game, and it only has one attack: it shoots a fireball either high or low, and it leaves a flame on the ground for a few seconds afterwards. That's all there really is to this fight. Alternate between the ground and the ceiling to avoid the fireballs until it's dead.
  • Defeat Anubis

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the third boss of the game and another simple one. All Anubis does is shoot out a wave of projectiles from his wand every so often. He moves around threateningly but never does anything special. Personally, I tanked literally all of his projectiles and stood there shoot him until he died.
  • Defeat the Giant Scarab

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the fourth boss of the game. The boss itself barely does anything of note. In this fight, the arena is the only real challenge, and only for short amounts of time. The boss will go to one side of the arena, shoot out a laser horizontally, then sweep it across. Get behind a platform to avoid it. Then he'll move to the other side and repeat. After two lasers, he'll hide in his shell and run around the arena, and meanwhile all of those gears you've been standing on activate, and the arena rises. You'll need to platform up to avoid the spikes. It's pretty slow and you have plenty of time, just be careful. This is the entire fight though: two lasers, then arena rising. I personally use the flamethrower and harpoon to end this fight as fast as possible, only having to deal with three sets of lasers.
  • Defeat Ahmanet

    Story-related; cannot be missed.

This is the final boss of the game, and there are two phases.

The first phase is just against Ahmanet herself. She is basically just a regular enemy with tons of health. All she does is either shoot at you, which you can just duck under, or spawn enemies out of the ground, which you can kill. Personally, I used the flamethrower. It destroyed her incredibly fast, and killed all enemies she spawned instantly. Stay crouching and nothing can hit you. I didn't even use half of my flamethrower ammo to finish the first phase.

The second phase is a huge boss, and only its head is vulnerable. Surprisingly, its attack do not much damage at all. What does a massive amount of damage is if you touch the head or hands. So, just stay in the middle of the arena and don't jump. Angle shots if need be. I again just tanked all projectile damage here, used the rest of my flamethrower and then some harpoon to finish off this easy final fight.
  • Kill two enemies with one harpoon

This achievement seems to be bugged in a good way. The harpoon is located in the subway area, but I absolutely did not get a double kill with one harpoon shot when I unlocked this achievement. I killed a fish underwater and then a shield enemy underwater, one after another, and this still unlocked. If that doesn't happen for you though, simply use the harpoon gun against simple enemies like the rats, spiders, or the locust enemies that cling to walls and jump back and forth. It'll definitely pierce them to kill more than one.

For getting the harpoon, refer to Wrapping Things Up (100G) for all of the weapons and items on the map.
  • Use a Phase Dash to destroy a wall

Refer to Wrapping Things Up (100G) for where the Phase Dash scroll, the Ankh of Seker, is located.

Once you have it, pressing button-b.png does a Phase Dash that can destroy some walls. However, there are only a few walls this actually works on in the game. In Wrapping Things Up (100G), you'll see some walls marked in red, which you'll need to destroy to get all items on the map and unlock that achievement. This achievement will unlock the first time you destroy one of those breakable walls.
  • Perform a Dash Boost

This achievement requires you to collect the Scroll of Qebui (that lets you run faster) and the Ankh of Seker (that lets you Phase Dash). Once you have both, you need to hold in a direction and run that way until glow red. Jumping does not interrupt this buildup of speed to turn red, only colliding with enemies or walls. Once you're glowing red from running at full speed, press button-b.png to Phase Dash and you'll Dash Boost nonstop until you collide with a wall. That unlocks this achievement. You'll need to do this a few times to reach all items for Wrapping Things Up (100G).
  • Travel by Helicopter to a new location

This achievement requires you to use the helicopter fast travel system for the first time. These are the yellow squares around your map. Simply use one to fast travel for the first time and you'll unlock this achievement. You'll use these a bunch when mopping up the map of all collectibles.
  • Escape the caves in Iraq

    *MISSABLE*

This achievement requires you to beat the prologue/intro section of the game without dying. You'll progress a bit and there won't be any enemies. You'll then get a call to return to the helicopter right away. Do so, and there will be some enemies along the way. Nothing crazy though, so just shoot them and get back to the helicopter. If you die, you'll miss this achievement but still progress to the beginning of the actual game, and you'll need to start a new save file to attempt this. However, there are barely any enemies, they don't shoot anything, and you have a gun, so there's really no excuse to die on the way back. Take your time if need be, and when you get to the chopper, this will unlock.
