Introduction:
Welcome to The Mummy Demastered, a 2D Metroidvania very loosely based on the movie of the same name. The gameplay in this is nearly identical to Super Metroid or, more recently, Shadow Complex. You'll explore a handful of different areas, unlock a bunch of weapons and abilities, and open up more of the map to get more upgrades - your usual Metroidvania fare. Despite being based on a movie and having a weird name, this game is actually pretty enjoyable. There is just one missable achievement to worry about, but it's not that bad at all. More on that below. Let's get started.
Abbreviated Walkthrough:
This most important thing to mention is the only missable achievement - Undead Agent (100G), which encompasses Close Call (15G) as well. You need to beat the game without dying. Don't worry - this isn't bad at all. Refer to Undead Agent (100G) for an easy workaround to ensure you don't miss this achievement, and it makes things so much less stressful. I don't mean to imply this game is difficult, because it isn't at all. There are a few sections that can be annoying because of infinite spawning enemies, but bosses are all incredibly simple (one phase and one attack each), and enemies are pretty easy to predict.
Aside from that, like all Metroidvanias, no real walkthrough is required. Progress, explore, find upgrades, open up new areas, etc. This game has a pretty simple map and is relatively linear. You'll likely find a bunch of things through natural progression. Feel free to double back each time you unlock a new upgrade, but I recommend just waiting until you beat the fourth boss and unlock the ability to go underwater. Once you have that and Phase Dash, you can collect everything on the map in preparation for the final area of the game. If at any point you need anything, help finding a weapon or upgrade, etc., refer to the map linked in Wrapping Things Up (100G). Demajen, who is known for creating high quality Metroidvania maps, has done it again for this game. Utilize his map to track down anything you're after.
Once you reach the end of the game, you should definitely take some time to mop up the entire map. You can reach 100% of items collected before the final boss fight, but only 95% map completion by then. Refer to Wrapping Things Up (100G) and World of Gods and Monsters (75G) for more information. Once you've gotten to 100% items and 95% map completion, go beat the final boss, escape, and if you've done everything, you'll unlock Wrapping Things Up (100G), World of Gods and Monsters (75G), and Undead Agent (100G) after the credits finish rolling.
If you actually didn't die the entire game, you can mop up My Enemy, Myself (5G) and Takes a Monster to Defeat a Monster (25G) by reloading your save file. Just head back to the starting area of the game, die on purpose, then kill your zombie self to unlock those two achievements.
Conclusion:
This game was surprisingly fun. Pretty simple, and plays nearly identical to Super Metroid, but a short and fun little game that was definitely worth the price. I recommend checking it out on sale if you want a fun and easy completion. As long as you use the save backup workaround, this completion should be no problem. Congrats!
