Introduction:
TRAX - Build it, Race it is an on-rails racing game where you race against online opponents and A.I. on pre-built and user-created tracks using slot cars. Originally manufactured in England, the real Scalextric-brand sets and accessories have been the leader in race-track systems since the 1960s.

The game is very simple; two cars race along a pre-determined track for a set number of laps and the one who finishes first is the winner. Use (or ) to accelerate your slot car around the track, being careful not to fly off around turns.

You can create your own tracks, giving you a limitless number of possibilities, but for the purposes of achievements, you need only win on each of the 12 pre-built tracks. There are four cars to choose from (that are different in appearance only) and not many other features or settings.

Note that this game is only available in North America. In the European and Australian regions, it was released as Scalextric.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
There are 12 achievements in this game, one for winning on each of the pre-built tracks.

Navigating through the menu is controlled by . There are a few settings for the game, but the only one that matters for achievements is that the A.I. in the game is set to Level 2 (there is also two-player split-screen play but there are no achievements for playing this way). It is also recommended that you race with the fewest laps, which is five. Luckily, the settings are automatically set to these two values, so the only thing you would need to do to start earning achievements is to select a car and track. There is also a 'Night Mode' setting, but that limits your view even more, so it is not recommended you play with it on.

When the race starts, the only other recommended change is to press to change to a wider-angled camera. It helps as it lets you see more of the track to anticipate slowing down or speeding up.

While in a race, there is a lap counter and your placement in the top middle of the screen. At the top right corner is your power meter, and at the top left is your per lap and total times. To move your car, press and hold (or ) to accelerate, and when going around a turn, ease up or else you might fly off the track. Very basic controls. After a few turns you should be familiar with how your car reacts.

If you wish to pause the game, press . From here you can Resume, Restart Race or Quit Game. After you win a race, the game takes you back to the title screen.

Conclusion:
TRAX - Build it, Race it is your basic on-rails racing game. Even though it’s a rather simple game, it really has no replay value, and at $9.99 US/$12.79 CDN, you might want to wait for a sale.

    • Win the race in Brazil against AI level 2 or higher

When you start the game, all of the settings are set to the lowest number of laps and the A.I. is set to Level 2. All you need to do is select a car and track. It is recommended that after the race starts you press to switch the camera to the wider-angled view. To accelerate, press and hold (or ). To go slower, just ease up on the trigger.

The only requirement of each of the 12 achievements in this game is to win a race on each of the tracks against the Level 2 A.I. Each race is five laps and isn’t all that difficult as often the A.I. will make accelerate for no reason and make themselves fly off the track. As long as you don't go too fast and pace yourself around the turns you should have no issues winning each race. Naturally, when you come to a straight-away, fully hold down the trigger until you approach the turn (if both cars are on the same straight-away, your car goes faster).

An image of track is shown in its respective achievement. As you can see, some have more turns than others, which means you are going to have to decelerate while going around them. There is a power meter at the top right of the screen, and depending on the curvature of the turn, you should be between 65-75%. Even at that power, sometimes your car flies off the track for no reason. You can derail once or twice during the race and still recover, but if the A.I. decides not to, you’re going to have to try again. Some races may take two or three tries before winning.

There is no real strategy for racing or winning. Don't concentrate on where the A.I. is, just focus on what you are doing. If you don’t pay attention to yourself, you’re going to miss a turn and derail. Luckily each race is five laps so you have opportunities to correct your mistakes with each lap.
