Introduction:
Tropico is a city / island building game somewhat similar to Sim City. You play El Presidente, who is more or less a dictator, depending on how you want to rule your island. Unlike Sim City, there's a lot of politics to do besides building things. Unlike Tropico 4, the game returns to some of the mechanics of Tropico 3, and you can lose if you don't take care of matters.

Tropico 5 seems to be the first game in the series which doesn't have a lot of crashes. I was able to play the entire time and didn't have a single crash. The game is a lot shorter than the previous ones, because you don't need to start over in each campaign mission, you keep returning to your previously built islands.

Step 1: Complete the tutorial
The tutorial has 30 tasks and teaches you all the basics about Tropico.

Step 2: Complete campaign mode
There are 15 campaign missions to complete.

Step 3: Play sandbox games
Sandbox games are great to get the remaining achievements, as you can just use the unlimited money "cheat".

Step 4: Play multiplayer
Very easy to boost those achievements with a friend.

There are 70 achievements with a total of 1500 points

  • Finished all tutorials

There are 3 tutorials with a total of 30 tasks to do. After you finish, the achievement is yours.

  • Finished a multiplayer game

Simply finish one multiplayer game and you will get this achievement. You can still unlock it even if the other player leaves the game.

  • Won a multiplayer game by points

In versus mode, points simply mean that you'll get missions you need to complete. For each completed mission you'll get one point. You can still win even if the other player leaves the game.

  • Won a multiplayer game by money

In versus mode, the player who reaches the set money goal first wins and gets the achievement. You can still win even if the other player leaves the game.

  • Won a multiplayer game by construction

In versus mode, the player who constructs the required buildings first wins and gets the achievement. You can still win even if the other player leaves the game.

  • Connected a dock with that of another player

In coop mode, connect your roads to the roads of another player, so that there's a road from dock to dock. You can still unlock this achievement even when the other player has already lost.

  • Produced and shared 1 000 MW of power with another player

In co-op mode, build power plants for a total of 1000MW, then share (+) the electricity with another player.

  • Had a fleet of 12 trade ships

Having 12 docks means having 12 trade ships, so simply build 12 docks to unlock this.

  • Mined 100 000 ores and coal in a single game

Just discover the mine shafts and put mines on them. You will probably get this very early during the campaign.

  • Had managers in more than 15 buildings in a single game

The easiest way to get this quickly is issue the "Census" edict to discover capable managers, then employ all of the new found people as managers for 15 buildings.

  • Had relations higher than 90 with all factions in the Modern Era

For this achievement, you need to have a standing of over 90 with all factions.
I think this is pretty much impossible in the campaign. The easiest way to get it is to start a sandbox game with these settings:

    Then follow these steps:
    1. Quick build a single Power Plant and plenty of streets
    2. Pause game time
    3. Quick Build 20 Office Buildings -> Capitalists + Globalists = 100
    4. Quick Build 3 Cathedrals -> Religious = 100
    5. Quick Build 4 Barracks -> Militarists = 100
    6. Quick Build 30 Apartments -> Communists = 100
    7. Quick Build 6 Cigar Factories -> Industrialists = 95
    8. Quick Build Space Program and Nuclear Program -> Nationalists 95
    9. Quick Build lots and lots of large gardens -> Environmentalists 100
    10. Unpause game time
    11. After a short period, the achievement unlocks

  • Ruled for 100 months as a colonial governor

You are a colonial governor whenever you are supported by the crown during the colonial era, which is before you declare independence. The game offers you various chances to extend the default period of 5 years, just remember not to declare independence until you have this achievement.

  • Exported 100 000 Luxury Goods

This will also unlock quickly once you've built your first luxury industry buildings.

  • Had more than 20 Plantations, Hydroponic Farms, Factory Farms and Ranches in a single game

For this achievement you need to have a total of 20, not 20 of each type.

  • Had more than 500 citizens in a single game

Easy, any island will grow quickly. Just keep your people happy and more of them will come.

  • Built 150 buildings in a single game

Another achievement you will probably get early. Just keep building.

  • Earned over $$200 000 Swiss bank account

Unlocks once you've earned $200,000 on your swiss bank account. Feel free to spend, you do not need to accumulate it.

  • Built more than 2 000 meters of roads in a single game

You will automatically unlock this once you have more than 2000 meters of road, which will be very early during the campaign.

  • Successfully completed 5 trade routes with China in a single game

Start a sandbox game with unlimited money, modern times era, preferably on an island with lots of beaches to build docks. I had 34 docks when attempting this. Construct an Embassy and invite/praise China. Now check the trade routes. If you do export trade routes, you need to produce matching materials for them to complete! For import routes, you can just take whatever. Regardless, you need to have enough ships on each route to complete it before the time runs out. If the time runs out, the trade route does not count as completed. Once you have completed 5 trade routes, the achievement will unlock.

  • Finished a game with relations of 100 with the US

You need to be on "Cold War" for this achievement. Invite the USA to your embassy, keep praising them every 12 months, do delegations and alliance with them. If your standing with them is 100 at the end of the mission, you will unlock this achievement. Note that it also works if you fail the mission.

  • Had 5 foreign powers in your Embassies at the same time

You need to be on "Modern Times" and have 5 embassies for this. Build, then invite a different nation to each of them and the achievement will unlock.

  • Had Slob, Family, Cultural, Eco and Wealthy tourists at the same time on the island

You need to be on the modern times era and have all mentioned types of hotels built. Once you have one type of each tourist on the island, the achievement will unlock.

  • Earned $50 000 yearly revenue from Entertainment buildings

Very easy, a few taverns and restaurants will quickly unlock this achievement early in the campaign.

  • Had 10 different industry buildings in a single game

There are 13 possible industry buildings. You need to build 10 of those to unlock the achievement. You can check what you have in the almanac (+) in the buildings tab.

  • Had all happiness values above 50

Keep checking the almanac (+) about topics the people are unhappy about, then construct buildings of that category. Once you've nearly reached your goal, raise all budgets on all building types to maximum and you'll certainly reach 50+ happiness on everything. Please note that this is not related to the people's support value displayed above the map.

  • Reached overall happiness of 77

Keep checking the almanac (+) about topics the people are unhappy about, then construct buildings of that category. Once you've nearly reached your goal, raise all budgets on all building types to maximum and you'll certainly reach 77+ overall happiness. Please note that this is not related to the people's support value displayed above the map.

  • Executed a Rebel Leader

Go to the almanac (+) and select the politics tab. Under "rebels" select any person and choose to kill them.

  • Bribed a Faction Leader

The game can't be in time pause mode for this achievement. Go to the almanac (+) and select the politics tab. Here, under factions, select any, and browse for the faction leader, then select to bribe.

  • Had a dynasty member with a level 5 skill

You can make your dynasty members level up with Swiss bank money. You should start doing this early in the campaign, once you level someone up, the price for the next level multiplies until you finish the current mission. So level up once in each mission and you'll get this after finishing 4 of them.

Second level costs $50,000 or $10,000
Third level costs $100,000 or $20,000
Fourth level costs $150,000 or $30,000
Fifth level costs $200,000 or $40,000

  • Recognized a new heir

When there's an event of surprise-pregnancy, just organize a quick wedding. After 9 months, you can name and equip your new heir and the achievement will unlock. There's also other events when you can accept people as heir.

  • Changed the looks of a dynasty member

Go to the wardrobe (+) then change the appearance of any person and the achievement will unlock.

  • Had 7 Dynasty members

Looks like this is a random event and it's easiest to get new dynasty members in the earlier campaign missions before you time travel. So you may need to replay the campaign for this.

  • Survived a rebel attack against the Palace

During Campaign mission 12 "The Dogs of War", a lot of rebel attacks will happen. Have enough army to repel them, and you will get this achievement here. If not, there's an edict to provoke a rebel attack you can use.

  • Survived an uprising

You can easily get this in the last mission "Hope". People are getting unhappy quickly. If not, try everything to make normal people unhappy. Demolish buildings, lower payments/budgets, martial law etc.

  • Survived a Military Coup

A military coup happens when the militarists are unhappy. Have army bases and barracks, then lower budgets and change constitutions so militarists get unhappy and will start a military coup.

  • Survived an invasion from the USA

The easiest way to get this is during "Cold War". Build a lot of docks and prefer trade routes that lower relations with the USA. A standing lower than 20 is considered hostile, Penultimo will notify you about incoming warships. A few years later, repel the invasion and the achievement is yours.

  • Had 5 Army Bases in a single game

Simply build them and the achievement will unlock. You need to be on the world war or later era.

  • Had 20 Guard Towers in a single game

Simply build them and the achievement will unlock. You need to be on the world war or later era.

  • Advanced to the Modern Era before the year 1960

It doesn't seem to be possible to unlock this achievement during the campaign. Start a sandbox game on any island, set difficulties to very low, enable unlimited money and start with the colonial era. Build a few things so people don't complain and add lots of libraries, import workers for the libraries, then research all technologies. Get your happiness to 51+ and go to the world war era. In the world war era, keep researching all technologies, then do the treaties quest to advance to the cold war era before 1960. Then keep going for the next achievement below.

  • Researched all technologies at least once before the year 2005 in a single game

In the world war era, keep researching all technologies, then do the treaties quest to advance to the cold war era. Now, research all new technologies and construct a space program to advance to the modern era. Start research of the 9 remaining technologies and complete them before 2005. Use lots of Science Labs to speed things up.

  • Amended the Constitution 6 times in a single game

You need to change the constitution 6 times. In the campaign, it seems that "single game" counts as whatever you do on one of the islands you keep returning to, so basically, single game is 3 rounds on the same island. Whenever you get the chance, change the constitution and after the sixth time, the achievement will unlock.

  • Issued 20 edicts in a single game

When you have enough money and possible edicts, save, issue 20 different edicts, achievement unlocks, reload.

  • Issued the "Host the Olympics" edict

You need to be on "Modern Times". Build a stadium and issue the "Host the Olympics" edict to get this achievement.

  • Won a Sandbox game on a Tiny island

It needs to be a generated map set to island size "tiny". To make it easier, set resources to abundant, difficulty to very low, victory by points to 3. You can also enable relentless disasters for the "To Live In Interesting Times" achievement.

  • Won a Sandbox game on an island with Relentless Disasters

The easiest way to get this is winning a game by 3 points. Three missions are done quickly and the disasters don't do all that much damage. You'll be finished in 10 minutes.

  • Hope

    40

    Completed "Hope"

Unlocked after completing campaign mission 15: "Hope". On my first try, I found this mission to be incredibly hard even on the easiest settings. However, if prepared correctly, it's super easy.

To prepare, start with the campaign mission 11: "Get-rich-quick" on Puerto Coco. On this mission, you get insane amounts of interest for your bank deposits. Be careful to never exceed one million dollars on your treasury or deposit, else you will win and the mission is over.
You should do the following before winning the mission:

    1. Build a lot of hotels and tourists attractions and have more than 200 tourists on the island. I did this in the southwest part of the map:

    2. Remove the current dock and put it somewhere more centered, build 4 of them, then surround them with enhanced guard towers, army bases and barracks. Do not have any docks in other places. Here's a picture of my map:

    3. Get a population of over 900
    4. Build 3 TV Stations
    5. Build at least 4 Sugar Farms and 2 Rum distilleries.
    6. Have a high overall happiness
For mission 13: "Leon Must Die!": Choose Puerto Coco and you'll win it in a few minutes without doing anything.
For mission 15: "Hope": You will fulfill all 5 requirements to win the final mission and it'll take less than 10 minutes to complete.
