Introduction:
We Happy Few is a comedy set in a groovy, hallucinogenic drug-fueled dystopian alternate past where Germany won World War II. Imagine BioShock, but taking place in the the middle of A Clockwork Orange, and instead of Plasmids and Milk Plus, everyone's just on mushrooms and LSD. The game takes place across three acts, which show the story played out from the perspective of three different people.

Note: The game can be done faster, but the story is incredible and would be doing yourself a disservice to skip the side missions.

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
I enjoyed the story much more than I expected to, so I'm hesitant to mention anything more about the story. The plot twists and turns made it an incredibly engrossing game, to the point where my fiancée stayed up sitting on the couch watching the story with me.

I put together a walkthrough of all achievements unlocked in order at the link below. It is a combination of the great work put together by PowerPyx, Lozwans at Steam, and dec_decadi at Gameplay.

We Happy Few Playthrough Guide

You may ask yourself, but Khaos, if those great guides exist, why did you combine them all into a different guide? That's a great question, and I'm glad you're playing along. While the guides contain a great deal of great information and screenshots, they were in random orders, were three different guides that I had to flip back and forth between, and were not very user friendly for following along with. So this walkthrough will show all the different collectibles (Masks, notes, phone calls, and TV Shows), missable achievements, and overall progression in a single place to follow along with.

Roger & James in They Came From Below DLC

Abbreviated Walkthrough:
This DLC is short add-on that takes place in 1962. While experimenting with her Portals, Dr. Faraday mysteriously disappears, and only James & Roger can find her!

As you explore your house, you discover that Dr. Faraday had many more secrets than either of you ever knew about...

The game is a short straightforward story in contrast to the open world sandbox style of the base game. There is no map, traveling, side missions, or ability to get lost. Other than finding collectibles and shooting barrels/headshots, all other achievements are directly related to events in the story line.

Conclusion:
Two notes: The game is (was) heavily glitchy, however recent updates greatly improved that. However, some in-game events needed for achievements may not occur right away and may require coming back repeatedly to try again (reference Prudence phone calls or attempting to get the plague). However, I can personally guarantee this guide will work, and I have the full 1000 to show for it.

Second, maps are randomly generated, which makes specific directions challenging. There's no map screenshots I can provide to help locate items, however the in-game map is extremely helpful and has Eye Ball icons showing area names. Due to the random nature of the maps, you may encounter some collectibles before others depending on how each area generates. Do not worry, you will eventually encounter them, and as long as you haven't passed the "Point of No Return" in each Act, you can backtrack to anything you missed.

All glitches aside, I greatly enjoyed the game, the story was incredible, and playing several months of Subnautica Game Preview has hardened me to glitches. I greatly enjoyed it, and hopefully you do too!

[XBA would like to thank Khaos for this Roadmap]

There are 70 achievements with a total of 1540 points

  • Take Phlash as Arthur

Phlash is a drug found in most vending machines. To get the achievement out of the way quickly, there is a vending machine right behind where the quest Rorke’s Drift Bridge is given.

  • Kill 100 NPCs across all playthroughs

As the achievement suggests, kill 100 characters across any Act.

To combine the achievement best with "The Saint," play through Act 1 and 2 as a nonviolent individual using only choking, sleeptite atomizers, and weapons that call themselves "non lethal," then when Act 3 comes along with Ollie, kill everyone in sight.

To track progress for both this achievement and "The Saint" open the menu button, and within the Journal there is a Statistics tab that will show the number of Murders. Keep this number at zero throughout Arthur and Sally's walkthroughs, and at least a 100 during Ollie's and both achievements will unlock.

  • Listen to all the phone calls in the phoneboxes

    (Technically Missable, Possibly Glitchy)

In most Holms there will be a ringing phonebox each day. When you wander past a box that's ringing, pick it up, listen to the message, and then move on with your story. After all 12 messages have been listened to, the achievement will unlock.

In order to unlock it right away, after exiting the Barrow Holm safe house, there is a nearby phone ringing. Pick it up, listen to the message, and return to the safehouse. Sleep in the bed for 24 hours (press left once in the sleep menu) and return to the phonebooth to hear the next message.

There are reports of this achievement glitching, and not all messages being available and the phone stops ringing daily prematurely. If this occurs, go back to the story and play through the game. Just come back and make sure the achievement is taken care of before passing a Point of No Return.

  • Kill a guy named Ryan Andrews

    (Arthur Achievement, Missable)

During Arthur's mission to find Cod Liver Oil, one of the scientists will be named Ryan Andrews. Kill him. Make sure to make a save before doing so, then re-loading the save after obtaining the achievement to not interfere with your "The Saint" progression

Reference THIS LINK for specific location.

  • Retrieve the credentials from the club

    Arthur Achievement

This achievement is story-related and cannot be missed.

  • Finish all of the butcher's apprentice quests

    (Arthur Achievement, Missable)

Arthur will encounter a meat delivery boy in trouble. Complete his side mission storyline to unlock this achievement.

Reference THIS LINK for specific location.

  • Complete "Band of Brothers" encounter

    Arthur Achievement

This achievement is story-related and cannot be missed.

  • Deliver the cod liver oil

    Arthur Achievement

This achievement is story-related and cannot be missed.

  • Cross into the Village for the first time

    Arthur Achievement

This achievement is story-related and cannot be missed.

  • Set foot on every island

    Sally Achievement

This achievement will unlock after entering Ratholm. Should not be missable if following along with all achievements.

  • Finish Mystery House without being spotted once

    (Arthur Achievement, Missable)

Arthur will encounter an eccentric man in a treehouse whose stuffed animals are actually secret agents. As part of his side-mission story you will be sent to the mystery house. Sneak in and eliminate the leader without being spotted.

Reference THIS LINK for specific location.

  • In Thomasina House - Collect all fake cats

    (Arthur or Ollie Achievement, Missable)

Arthur will receive a side-quest mission line from the shopkeeper at the Odds and Ends. As part of his side-mission story you will be sent to the cat-loving elderly women's house. Sneak in and collect all fake cats. You could storm the place and murder all the elderly women, but that's on your conscience, not mine. If you do murder her, make sure you save before doing so to not mess with "The Saint" progression.

The quest will reappear during Ollie's act if you accidentally miss it.

Reference THIS LINK for specific location.

  • Unlock all of Arthur's shelters

    (Arthur Achievement, Missable, Possibly Glitchy)

Throughout Arthur's travels he will encounter abandoned subway stations that will serve as the hub for his travels, beds to sleep on, tables to craft things, and a stash to store things. After finding all shelters, this achievement will unlock.

In theory, this achievement should unlock after unlocking the ninth shelter opened during the fashion show mission. However, the achievement is severely glitched, and could unlock anytime after the fourth shelter.

Personally, mine unlocked after the seventh. The map is always generated randomly, so there is no set location for all these shelters and a map screenshot would be useless to another player, as their map will look different. Keep an eye on the in-game map looking for blue house icons. The shelters can be seen when nearby as they are either small houses with smoke coming out the chimney (when in the Garden district) or metal hatches in a garden/park area (when in a village).

Here is a list of all the shelter locations:

    1. Barrow Holm Hatch
    2. Eel Pie Hatch
    3. Eel Pie Hatch 1
    4. Eel Pie Hatch 2
    5. Maidenholm Hatch
    6. Lud’s Holm Hatch
    7. St. George’s Holm Hatch
    8. Secondary St. Geroge’s
    9. Parade District
  • Contract and cure the plague

Upon entering Lud’s Holm, the Bobby on guard at the bridge will give you a phenocyline jab. When in the garden district, anytime at night you will be attacked by citizens with flies buzzing around their heads. These are plague infested folks. Interact with them, receive the plague, and use phenocyline injection to cure the plague.

I struggled for a very long time with Arthur to contract the plague and finally unlocked it while searching a dead body. Then later on while playing as Ollie, I contracted the plague five times on accident, so it may be beneficial to wait and obtain this achievement during his playthrough.

  • Complete the entire game without directly murdering anyone

The achievement's name implies completing the entire game, however all reports state that only Acts 1 and 2 need to be completed non violently (and some even say only Act 1 does).

See "A Bit of The Old Ultraviolence" for more information.

  • Gain £1000 from looting/bartering across playthroughs

    (Possibly Glitchy)

Wander the wasteland, collect rubbish, sell rubbish at Stores, profit.

Some guides recommend using Sally for this achievement as she can craft expensive drugs, however I unlocked it as Arthur, on accident.

As with many other achievements, this is slightly glitched. It did not unlock until I had about 1200 in my account.

  • If you powered through the Phone calls and the Jack shows, this unlocked on accident. If not, sit in a chair or lay in a bed, “Wait” for 24 hours at a time until completed. The date is in the upper right corner to show the current day.

  • Die while overdosing on Joy

Take multiple does of Joy until overdosing (the game will tell you when you've taken enough), and then die.

Immediately after completing "Not in Kansas Anymore" there is a Joy booth on the left, with a cliff on the right. Go into the booth, take joy until overdosing, then turn to your right and walk off the cliff.

  • Find all collectibles

    (Very Missable)

Throughout your playthrough you will see floating rotating masks around the world. Collecting them triggers a flashback memory cutscene.

Reference THIS LINK for specific location.

Masks are referenced in Purple throughout the guide

  • Collect all Uncle Jack Shows

To check the status collectables, in the main menu, choose "Theatre" to see what has been collected.

Throughout the game TV programs will play at specified times. The program order will be random, but the same shows will always play at the same times. To collect this achievement right away, find a TV with a bench nearby. Sit on the bench and hit to wait, choose a preferred time, stand up, watch the TV until the collection message appears in the lower left corner, then return to the bench and wait until the next time. Repeat until all shows are collected.

As with all other parts of this game, bugs are reported, expected, and if certain episodes don’t appear, try again later or in a different Act.

There are 10 achievements with a total of 180 points

      Secret achievements

      • Destroy 50 Explosive Barrels

When you first receive the Ray Gun, there will be a quick tutorial about blowing up yellow Explosive Barrels. Keep blowing up more throughout all three Acts to unlock the achievement.

      • Get 100 Headshots

Get 100 headshots on robots using the Ray Gun. Just aim for the robots' single big eye. This is cumulative across all three Acts.

      • Pick Up All Lore Items

There are 34 notes scattered across all three Acts. You can check your menu to view all of the notes except for "Alien Glossary."

One thing to keep in mind, if you pick up a note and then accidentally go on Holiday, you will need to re-pick that note up each time as the game doesn't auto-save when Notes are collected.

Author's Note: I personally made that mistake with Note #29 (you will collect that note many times while trying for "Helter Smelter"). However, even though I neglected to re-pick the note up (and it was therefore missing from my journal), when I collected the 34th note, the achievement unlocked. So if you make the same mistake, you also may get lucky and not need to replay the game.

        Intro - None

Act 1 - The Caves of Steel

        1. Unvisited - Immediately after returning home and hearing the crash, run to the left side of the house to find this note pinned to the side of a wood pile.
        2. Greenhouse - Now run to the right side of the house to find it hanging on a pipe inside the greenhouse.
        3. Bee Cannon? - Run to the back of the house to climb up onto the greenhouse roof, finding the note inside a bathtub.
        4. Apples - Enter the front door and look immediately to your left laying next to the fire.
        5. Molecules - Head down the hallway into the kitchen. Turn around to find the note laying on the bed.
        6. Flour? - Keep heading down the hallway, turn to your left at the base of the stairs to see the note on the wall by the broom.
        7. Slide Rule - Start heading up the stairs, and turn around about halfway up to see the note by a suitcase in a tiny hidden area.
        8. Numpty in Chief - Continue on up the stairs, head down the hallway to find the notebook on the transfer tube.
        9. Basement - Turn around and head into Faraday's lab/office. After a short cut-scene, the note will be on the table in the back.

Act 1 - Stranger in a Strange Land

        10. Melting Star - After stepping off the elevator in your basement, the note is directly in front of you on the desk.
        11. Ray Gun - Head down the left side hallway (from the perspective of the elevator) and down the ramp, look immediately to your right at the bottom of the ramp.
        12. Planet X - After heading down the elevator and triggering the alarm system, pass by the two laser beams, turn left, and find the note on top of the metal box.
        13. Thiomotilene - Continue past the next two laser beams, turn the corner, enter the office, and find the note on the office desk.
        14. Stimulus - After passing the wall of four laser beams, turn the corner to find the note on a small steel box.
        15. Look Who's Talking - After completing the spinning laser room and heading down the next elevator, the notebook will be directly ahead on a cart.
        16. Bootup - Head down the rest of the hallway, take the short lift up, and the notebook will be on the control panel.
        17. Proud Progress - Flip the switch, head to the next section, walk along the pipes, and the next notebook will be on the next control panel (right side).
        18. Striving - After the running scene, turn right, head into the dark hallway, and its about halfway down on your right side.

Act 2 - War of the Worlds - None

Act 2 - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

        19. Alien Glossary - Go through the door towards the Reasearch Wing, and the notebook is on the ground under a large Red sign that says "Humans and Overseers Only".
        20. Progress - After a short tram ride, walk down the stairs and it's on a metal box in the center of the area.
        21. Curious - On the same table as the Curious Device.
        22. Facility - After a short elevator ride, exit and turn right to see a platform of hanging boxes with a row of exploding barrels on top. Shoot the barrels then use the Curious Device to lower the next two cases, jump across, and find the notebook on the control panel table.
        23. Vigilance - After exiting the gondola, it's right ahead of you on the ground.
        24. Motilene! - After a short elevator ride and triggering an intrusion alarm, its on the ground in the round room.
        25. Concerned - After passing a series of laser puzzles, it's on a steel box at the end of the hallway.
        26. Room - After a short cut-scene, go left and through the door to find the note on the dirt floor.
        27. Encouragement - Now go to the right side of the cut-scene room, through that door to find the note on a rock.
        28. Consternation - Continue down the hallway, turning right, then right again through the door to find the note on a steel box.
        29. Inquiry - After a short cut-scene with Dr. Faraday, head past the broken robots and the note is on the ground in front of the fan.

        Act 3 - Childhood's End

        30. Friendship - After jumping off the moving gondolas, look on top of a steel box.
        31. Executive Committee - Progress forward, working through the boss fight and disabling the lasers. Then proceed straight forward, down a small hallway, to find the note on a white barrel .
        32. Conditioning - Turn left, go up through the ventilation shaft, and after a short fight, proceed further to find the next note on a white barrel.
        33. Abashed - After a short gondola ride, jump off, and it's on a box to your right.
        34. Regret - After a fight and a cut-scene, go through the door under Faraday, down a hallway, and find the final note on the floor.

      • Kill 8 Robots in the Intro

The "Intro" is only a few seconds long, but luckily it's the first few seconds of the game, so if you miss this achievement, there's no problem, you can clean it up on a second playthrough.

As the game opens, you'll have a Ray Gun and see a town square full of robots attacking villagers. Shoot the gun aiming for the Robots' red eye. Once they notice you, they will swarm around you. If any of them touch you, the screen will start to fade to black, and the intro will be complete.

For the achievement you just have to kill 8 robots before the screen goes to black. If they touch you and the screen starts fading, you can still keep shooting.

      • Complete Act 1

        Story related, cannot be missed.

      • Save all the Villagers

In the opening scene of Act 2, you will be at the same scene from the original introduction prior to the flashback.

When the Act starts, in the town square there will be 6 villagers each being attacked by robots. Shoot all of the red colored robots as quickly as possible to allow the villagers to run away and escape.

      • Complete Act 2

        Story related, cannot be missed.

      • Complete Act 3

        Story related, cannot be missed.

      • Push 7 Robots Into the Smelter

In Act 2, during the mission 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep', immediately after collecting the lore note "Inquiry", the story will drop you down past a fan and through the incinerator room. In the center of the room is a fiery pit.

As the robots charge at you, click down to push them away, aiming to push them into the fiery pit. If you start to get swarmed, the time stopping device is quite helpful.

      • Complete the DLC

        Story related, cannot be missed

After completing Act 3, there will be a final boss fight against Dr. Faraday inside a large Headmistress. She has four health bars:

        • Bar #1: Keep shooting her in the monitor panel (the head), avoiding the ground when she electrifies it. When her chest opens up and shoots out a purple light, hide behind the raised boxes
        • Bar #2: Deal with the group of robots. Pull out the curious device, raise up the boxes, and use them to hide from the purple laser. Otherwise identical to Bar #1
        • Bar #3: Story plot will resolve this one
        • Bar #4: Identical to Bar #2, except she will occasionally shoot rockets. When those launch, stop time to shoot them down
