Released last February, CrossfireX came to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in a bit of a state, and by the time the game closes down, it will have been available for just over a year. Smilegate has worked to support the game with patches, but evidently, it hasn't proved to be enough to keep it afloat.
“It is with the deepest regret that we are informing you of our decision to end support for CrossfireX on May 18, 2023," the studio confirmed in a statement. “Since the launch of the game, we have worked tirelessly to bring it to a point where we can all be proud, and throughout it all we have had the honor and pleasure of supporting our players.”
Servers for CrossfireX will close on 18th May 2023 at 00:00 UTC, while sales of the game on Xbox have already ceased, and purchases made as of 3rd February will be refunded - refunds can be requested here. You can find out more about the shutdown of CrossfireX in the official FAQ here.
I love anything Remedy do, but their campaign for this game was abysmal. And through no fault of their own, I reckon. The game was just so damn clunky I just couldn’t force myself to play this for more than a couple of levels. Such a shame. I’m hoping that this collaboration doesn’t bode poorly for Remedy’s collaboration with Rockstar on the Max Payne remakes.

CrossfireX is due to shut down this May, developer Smilegate has announced. The shutdown will impact both the game's online multiplayer, and the single-player campaign developed by Remedy Entertainment.
