A dark, God of War-inspired Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game is in the works, Paramount Global Games VP Doug Rosen has announced. Based upon the rather bleak five-issue IDW comic book mini-series, The Last Ronin, the game is in development at an as-yet-unnamed studio.
According to Rosen (speaking to Polygon), TMNT: The Last Ronin will mainly focus upon Michelangelo, who in the comic book is the last of the turtles gang, facing off against the Foot Clan using his fallen brothers' weapons. In the grim future storyline, Master Splinter is also no more, and the Foot Clan reigns over New York's streets at the behest of Shredder's grandson.
Rosen notes that other characters could be playable via flashback sequences, in a similar fashion to the comic book story. He adds that the right partner has been found to develop the AAA project, which is a “few years off” from release. It's a far cry from the colourful beat ‘em up shenanigans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge or the games featured in Konami's TMNT Cowabunga Collection, but sounds intriguing.
Little more is known about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, other than its God of War influences, but as soon as we hear more, you'll hear more too.
