At long last, GoldenEye 007 has launched for Xbox today, and, for all intents and purposes, it seems entirely faithful to the 1997 N64 original, albeit with remastered 4K visuals and lovely smooth dual analogue stick controls. There is another key difference, too.
While on Nintendo Switch, you can play the game with friends via online multiplayer, you're also able to input old N64 cheat codes to unlock bonus features like paintball mode, DK mode, and the Aztec and Egyptian secret levels. On Xbox, there's only local multiplayer, and you'll have to earn any extras the hard way, sans cheat codes.
“This version of GoldenEye 007 is, for the majority, as players know and love from the 1997 version,” an Xbox spokesperson told Polygon (via Eurogamer). “Specifically for cheats, these can be unlocked by completing levels in the required time, rather than with the button codes previously used.”
You can play GoldenEye 007 now via Xbox Game Pass, or through a free update for anyone with a digital copy of Rare Replay. For England, James. And achievements, obviously.
