That's fantastic news! Way back when, my family used to go to a specific hotel for a yearly event happening in the city and the hotel had this game. There are HUNDREDS of old-school 2d side-scrolling beat 'em ups from the 80s and 90s just sitting around collecting dust. Konami, Sega, Capcom, Taito (er, Squenix), SNK and Data East could make serious bank trotting out this games for 10-15 bucks a piece. More online side-scrolling beat-em-ups will always be welcome...they do sell well, and companies should take notice that people do want some nostalgia. Tired of playing them on Mame, or going to an arcade that has some screwed up screens. Games I'd love would include (but not limited to, and are ALL arcade ones) Aliens vs Predator Punisher Spider-Man Battletoads (the console games were weak compared to the arcade) Dungeons & Dragons (both of them) Combatribes Avengers (heck, most of the Marvel games had the better graphics, but I still enjoyed this one) The hopes of seeing them on here though...well, maybe one or two. We remember wasting many a 50 pence piece on The Simpsons Arcade Game in a pre-smoking ban pub back in the day, so the possibility of it coming back on the Xbox Live Arcade is something we'd relish enormously. According to a rating on the Australian Classification Board, The Simpsons Arcade Game might well be coming to XBLA.
And like X-Men Arcade for XBLA before it, developer Backbone Entertainment will be handling the game, if the listing is anything to go by, meaning that the possibility of another perfect collaboration between Backbone and Konami could be on the cards.
If Backbone can repeat the bang up job it did on X-Men Arcade, and this turns out to be kosher, then we could be looking at a port of one of our most fondly remembered arcade games. We'll have more info on The Simpsons Arcade Game when we get it.
