Gears of War 3 Will Have 2000 Gamerscore

In tonight's Gears of War 3 Live Stream with Rod Fergusson discussing Title Update 2 and the upcoming RAAM's Shadow DLC, it was confirmed (jump to about 23:30) that all four of the DLCs that come within the Season Pass will add 250 Gamerscore, for a total of 1000 extra points, making Gears of War 3 the first Xbox 360 game to reach 2000 Gamerscore. This will mark the first change in retail Gamerscore rules since the second change was confirmed back in 2009, which set the new cap to 1750, kicked off with Halo 3.

Previously three other achievement lists have risen over 1750, but neither fell within the retail game rules. Family Game Night is considered a "platform" in which multiple arcade games are housed (ten, to be exact) and Dawn of War II is a Games for Windows Live exclusive which basically mashed two full lists together and Monster Hunter Frontier is an MMO with seasonal quest updates exclusive to Japan. Technicalities to be sure, but I felt it best to clarify that before the comments came flying in!

So there you have it. First it was 1000, then 1250, then 1750 and now 2000. I assume GOW3 will be the first to hit this new cap when the final installment of the Season Pass drops next spring, but keep an eye out for other games to follow suit in 2012.

  • And I'm gonna have 1900/2000
  • I think the rules are more like guidelines at this point.
  • so hardcore
  • I'm not really going to complain about getting more gamerscore, but will they make up their minds?
  • More obtainable gamerscore for single games? Yes I'll take that.

  • Shame I'm going to finish with 1950.. could never execute someone with that viral achievement.
  • yuss, this was actually one of the things I was wondering about with GOW. Now we can go 5k/5k on the franchise as a whole :P
  • @2, I don't think there is a rule about going over 1750
  • @6: Probably not, but I would bet that the Xbox 720 games actually ship with 2000 gamerscore on the disc. This would ensure that us achievement nerds buy one fast. I hope not, but don't be surprised.
  • @2, Nevermind, misread the article
  • Next thing we know Halo 3 will be updated to 2000 just to say it was first :P (though I would have no complaints)
  • let's see if skyrim will go for 2000
  • I kinda had a feeling that with the way the DLC was shaping up that GOW3 would be the first game to have 2000GS. This is a better cap than 1750, but then again, they keep changing. Maybe with the next xbox we may see 3k which would be silly.
  • Considering we pay the cost of a retail game in dlc for some games, I would say 2000 points is appropriate. This game's dlc is very afforded though with the season pass.
  • @7 Can't you just boost it?
  • I thought it might go to 2000 after the first 2 DLC were 250GS apiece. @#7: I was lucky to get the Lambency cheevo within the first couple of days. If you really want it, send me a message on Live. I was able to infect my playing group with it in a private game.
  • i agree #1. we all will :P but thank GOD. that's perfect !!
  • Cliff just don't give a fuck
  • Achievements are over rated.
  • Most will be crap multiplayer cheevos... no thanks.
  • Called it. Only Halo and Gears can get away breaking the established rules and Halo already had its turn.
  • I realy dont care about haw much gamerscore is in a game as long as its easy to get all of it.
  • Why does everybody put down good news? Come on people/gamers! I been waiting for a game to hit 2000GS sense warhammer(PC). All I can say is I can't wait for the next game to hit 2000 other than GOW3. 1750 just looks incomplete. Anyway thanks Xboxorg for the great news. Wow what a lousy room. Yes, this is coming from a gamerscorewhore who loves all his games. Thank you GEARS for breaking the 2000 mark. This is very exiiting for me, I'm going to toke myself unconscious tonight.
  • looking forward to executing kim
  • @8, 6k There was a PC game with a full 1000G.
  • Awesome ,I hope epic will reveal a skorge dlc.
  • Boost on bots for the vengeful medal. Or with a second controller? I plan on getting 2k if possible.
  • @8 There is a possible 7750 gamer score in all GOW games once all this DLC comes out. GOW 1 on PC had 1k and GOW 2 Japanese edition had an additional 1750 you forgot to calculate.
  • Yeah! Woot Woot, bring on the extra cheevos.
  • I was expecting this, the mainstream games or most popular are the ones to either break the limit or meet it.
  • 250 extra GS than I was expecting? Yes please
  • That's stupid. I wish they would of just left it at 1000 per game.
  • @34 i agree, but its nice to have more content and achievements, rewards and challenges that connect and corresponds.
  • Maybe now they will stop with the online achievements in the base 1000 game disc and move all the online to the DLC for shooters.
  • @ 7, add someone who has it and go into a private match, my boosting account got it off of me.
  • I was expecting something like this. The game deserves it.
  • Anyone that played LOTR battle for middle earth will know the max gamerscaore for that game was 705. what a stupidly fucking random number, i wish each game had a set retail gamerscore, theb a certain amount allowed for dlc (say 500 gamerscore) and thats all!!!
  • 2000, great, just great
  • Was only a matter of time. Fitting that Gears 3 would do it since Gears 2 was among the first to go up to 1750.
  • Unbelievable that is is so beast really looking forward to it. 1900 still looks cool.
  • I guess it's a good thing, but it's so shifty of M$ to only change the rules once it benefits a Microsoft published game. This is twice in a row now.
  • That is an illegal number of points. Have fun with that, guys.
  • Nice! I knew getting that season pass was worth it!
  • think it's fine when there's a lot of DLC... just think most game should keep at 1000 G for instance I don't like RB3 having 1250 G at first (just because someone already had DLC)
  • Hey I won't complain , with endless of hours of gam play to come I won't really be caring about achievements (although 1750/1750 on Gears 2)
  • Damn i need to get gears 3 right away still barely have any achievements cuz i only play over at my brothers house when i visit. Its such a good game so far and i have all the achievements for the other 2. Damn it sucks to be poor lol but will eventually get all achievements
  • also i am going to assume that halo reach will jump to 2k as well. They already added more achievements recently with the new halo cea and now its at 1700 and still a long way till halo 4
  • The Call of Duty-series will definitely go up to 2000 as well. Because they learned that more poeple will buy their over-priced map packs if they add some achievements to unlock.
  • There is also a third game that hit 2000GS earlier this year: Monster Hunter Frontier.
  • Warhammer 40k on PC goes to 2,000G.
  • Here's hoping that Skyrim will follow suit and hit 2,000GS.
  • Great, now more games will do it; meaning more overpriced - and underwhelming - DLC to buy, resulting in a bigger completion hit if you don't. Awesome...
  • @34 i agree with you.
  • I'd like to see games go for higher scores now for their DLCs, as well. For example if a game plans on releasing two DLCs, make it 375 GS a piece.
  • 2000G in GoW3, maybe I will think again about Seriously. :D
  • @44 MS set the rules, they can change it to whatever they please. I'm really excited for 2000. It actually makes me more determined to get seriously. I'm definately considering it!
  • Grand Theft Auto V - 2000GS for sure!
  • petty its for a game like gears of war.... but yay for 2000g per retail
  • I bet that Mass Effect 3 will have 2000G also.
  • Warhammer 40.000 have 2000 GS! It's for GFWL though
  • If I had the time to devote to just Gears 3 I would try to get the 2000.
  • pretty kickass
  • So that means one of the DLCs will have 500 Gamerscore.
  • Don't like that because of what #54 said. Also there are way too high GS values for DLC achs. 100G for seriously3 and 100G for beating a boss with 5 onyx-guard players and 2 hosting achs for 25GS each, thats just inflationary. For DLC devs. tend to pump out high value achs for simple tasks. I'd rather have the cap at 1500G and a cap at 100G per DLC unless its something big like "Shivering Isles", "Awakening" or "Pirates of the flying Fortress".
  • have you all lost your minds? thats bullshit! why dont they stay with 1000GS per game? screw you EPIC and MS!!
  • Gears of war 3 is so boring
  • Brilliant :D and please just fuck off Gears haters, don't comment on a game you don't like.
  • 2000 per game is about right these days. And i like being rewarded for dlc. If a game has about 4 dlc for it, i'd be disappointed if there was no extra gamerscore nowadays.
  • @20 Go away. You're on an achievement site. @24 I love your enthusiasm. I share a similar regard to news like this. But man, it hurts me to see so much careless grammar. lol. Something else I agree with is this forum IS miserable!! Why is it people feel compelled to write how much they hate something. Go somewhere else with your negativity. If it's expressing an opinion that's one thing. But idiotic remarks like, "Gears of War 3 is so boring." Man, just get off the internet. For example, what #66 said I don't necessarily agree with but it's completely understandable. It's a well thought out expression. I, however, look at raising the cap to 2000 favorable. My only complaint is keeping GS consistent. There should be a firm structure with DLC's achievements and how much GS they offer. It's easy! 1000 for initial GS 250 for each individual DLC That's it! That way everything looks clean! You're either going to have 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750, or now 2000. To hell with 1430 and even 1300. It resembles incompleteness. And although the game could be complete with that overall GS, it just makes my list of complete games look inconsistent. With that said, I love what Gears of War is doing. Even dating back to Gears of War 1, they have had a perfect achievement score. And the way they're segmenting this DLC is perfect. Attaching 250GS to each DLC. It shows you know what you're doing.
  • @65 Did you learn math in english class? There are 4 DLCs with 250 GS each. The game started with 1000 GS. Lord help you.
  • I wish Cold Stream for Left 4 Dead would hit the damn XBLA !
  • i hate games that go over 1000Gs...i mean MS should make a new thing where every dlc is added as a new game with it's own list...i f*cking hate having to pay extra 560MSP for 50Gs(yes, im pointing at batman ac). games like that are just completionist's worst nightmare, all they do is ruin your percentage..
  • so how many cheevo whores are crying right now?
  • 2000 1 point achievements is the future
  • And what about DLC beyond Season Pass? Epic did announce that Season Pass covers only 4 first dlc packs which doesn't mean they don't want to make more. Anyways, I think paid dlc shouldn't count towards your points if you don't own the dlc. I did 100% achievements in Oblivion but the game doesn't show up on my completed list because I don't own Shivering Isles. That's annoying.
  • I thought there was a warhammer game that had 2000?
  • I'll be happy with 1900 :)
  • I think its funny that people complain about the extra DLC with the cost, when you ended up buying sub par games that rank 3/10 and think they are the best thing, when there are games out that add DLC that make up from that 3/10 5 times over. I will not argue about prices on content... because some of it is over priced like 800 points for the Knights of the Nine Quest in Oblivion that only added 2 hours of play if that and no gamerscore. Some DLC is for the hardcore fans only. I got the season pass knowing that i was getting 4 DLC and i figured on 750GS total since that has been the bench mark set for the few years. Now going to 2000FS on XB sets another standard and makes me want to go for the Seriously 3.0. Big games come bigger GS. GOW3 is a big game, Halo is a big game, Skyrim is a big game. What are people going to do with a new system in 2 years... they will do what they always do and bitch and moan that there is a DLC and they have to spend more money... hear is a thought... you will buy it anyway... you know why... your friends will be playing it and you dont want to be left out
  • @1 Word. Seriously 3.0 can suck it. It takes more time than an actual job for that stupid thing.
  • @1 Couldn't agree more, but I shall try too get it :P. And hope one DLC is how Myrrah became the Queen of the Locust and the story how Myrrah knows Adam and if she is Marcus mother. But looking forward too RAAM's DLC.
  • Don't care much about raise. If anything it will bring more crybabies complaining about MP achievemnts. Well if you play game for achievements, you need to get your priorities straightened out LOL
  • Those who are not going for Seriously 3.0, aren't true dedicated Gears fans. ;) No excuses.
  • Loving what Epic are doing with the DLCs, I prefer game developers that mix up their DLC instead of making multiplayer map packs all the time. As they say variety is the spice of life.
  • @83 ViNyLeK said "Well if you play game for achievements, you need to get your priorities straightened out LOL" - Coming from someone who has 127k GS, irony much?
  • Considering DLC is an add-on, it shouldn't ever exceed 50% (1500) in my opinion. I like getting achievements but 75% or 100% more achievements is like buying a new game.
  • @50 maybe treyarchs but all the call of dutys made by infinity ward have stayed at 1k
  • @#86 Why, you jealous? So you think I play for cheevies just because of my GS, which stands at over 135K right now ( might as well add). Go ahead and check my profile I have nothing to hide and I own every game I played. I do enjoy earning achievements, but I don't go out of my way to boost just to have 100% or go on forums complainig that now I need to play some shitty game mode just to get stupid cheevo...
  • I go out of my way to boost and complain on forums :( how else will I share how I feel!
  • @#90 You got me there=) Can't think of a better way LOL
  • @10 You know we'll also be replaying games we've already done for more GS!!
  • @84 I love gears, but 18000 matches is a bit much. Believe it or not, this fall has had excellent games come out (Gears 3, Forza 4, Batman AC, Battlefield 3, MW3, Skyrim, SR3, and AC Revelations) I'm not going to play Gears of War 3 for hundreds of hours when there are other games I could be playing. Just because you don't care about one annoying achievement that takes FOREVER doesn't mean you aren't a true gears fan
  • I thought this might happen what with them announcing 4 dlcs straight off the bat and it being an AAA title. I will now definitely buy the season pass, as I was waiting to find out if all 4 would have achievements.
  • I always expected it to hit 2000+ once multi-game releases [lego tillogies, hd collections, etc] became commonplace and for MS to adjust the GS of those games so each retail game in the pack was worth it's full 1000.
  • @15 ya 2000 is completely except-able seeing as some game rape you from behind over and over again. They know were all addicted and were going to buy. GEARS 3 is new #1 for ripping people off. With 55$ weapon skins, then DLC that's on the disk. Dragonage origins has to be the most expensive at 110$ in DLC(HOLY FUCK)
  • They are just preparing Halo 4 to have 3000
  • 2000 is very nice! I like it :)
  • @96 I may not remember this quite right, but didn't Epic say that if you want to buy all the weapon skins that make you a more obvious target, go right ahead? They're just for fun, and I don't they ever expected anyone to buy them all! The reason they have so many is so you can pick out a couple that you like... It would have been nice to have a skin pack so you could get them all at a discount, but who seriously needs 30 skins that you'll never use?
  • And lucky Treyarch, they get to milk another $30 for 150GS packs.
  • @89 Who said I was jealous? and i can't really see what you said as a convincing argument, NOBODY has that amount without playing the hell out of games, so you clearly do play games just for achievements otherwise you wouldn't have as much at all.
  • @99 ya thats true i only bought a few for horde mode and i would never put down 55$ for it all(most wouldn't) Of course EPIC said that if you wanna buy them, go ahead and buy them. they cant force people to buy a DLC I love gears 3(first one I played) but you just cant fight the fact that they royally ripped us off. I would never have bought the Season pass if i knew that the dlc was already on the disk. If the 3 others are already on the disk then this might go down as the biggest game rip-off of all time.
  • Little bit of math. season pass 2400msp at 33% savings on DLC horde DLC 1200msp RAAM's shadow DLC 1200msp 2400msp together. there for there can only be 1200msp worth of dlc left on the season pass. so the next 2 will be 600msp each. 3600msp total for 4 DLC's at 33% savings is 2400msp(season pass)
  • Little bit of reading (and paying attention). Horde DLc is 800MSP. So the two remaining after Raam's Shadow are 800MSP each.
  • Microsoft should just drop the cap and leave the initial limits of 200 for arcade games and 1000 for retail.
  • MW 1 and MW 2 are are shining examples of how to do. NO DLC ACHIEVEMENT. 1000/1000 will always look the best. . Even 900 /1000 would be better.
  • @104 I'm sure if I would have remebered if i had seen the post that said 800msp but I must have missed it. I had the season pass so it came up as free. I don't know where I got 1200msp from but whatever it was just for the hell of it anyways.
  • The only reason they have limits is so that games don't come out with 100,000 g worth of achievements and break the system. I'd be fine with no limit, but only letting a certain amount of points to be added for every quarter. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news-1178-The-Current-Achievement-Rules-Explained.html
  • Fair enough, 2,000 on Gears 3 would look impressive and give loads of people bragging rights. But to be honest, I would rather have 2,000g on a SP game, like Skyrim which I am 65hrs in, and nowhere near complete. That way, it would give people without internet to get more GS from games. My personal opinion is that online GS should be dlc based. Cos let's face it, too many games have no online community. I can't even begin to explain how hard to 1000g Prey was!
  • I NEEED this game!!! and my gamertag to show here!!
  • That 2k will look sweet on my tag ;)
  • ((Outstanding)) WTG Epic! Gear head to the end...
  • Well, whilst you guys spend 1000s of hours getting 2000g in gears 3, I'll be playing more entertaining games, like halo, left 4 dead, saints row 3, etc :) The problem with gears, is that once you've played the online once, that's it, there's nothing new, except maybe a couple of overpriced maps every few months. I learnt that from gears 2. You know what else I learnt from Gears 2? You can support the game, buy the new content on day of release, but then eventually, Epic will say "Fuck you" to the loyal supporters, and release a 'collection' pack, featuring all DLC for 400 MSP. Yeah. Epic did that, and because of that, and the Seriously 3.0 achievement, they lost a sale.
  • @109 your right... there is no online community anymore. a few friends were discussing this that 4 years ago you could play rainbow six vegas and there were hundreds of thousands of people playing. now, you play and wonder if you can get into a match. I agree SP and MP should be 2 seperate achievements and like halo and gears should only cross to get the story covered. some games are more rewarding than others and have no GS associated with them. Skyrim right now has 50 acheivements and there is a bizillion quests to do that are great like killing the dragon priests and getting their masks. People will pay for the content cause they dont want to wait... its happened to me... its happened to us all. if we pay 30 dollars now for dlc we play with our friends now... cause thats the trend in the gaming community.... if we wait and pay 8 dollars later for the dlc... hardly anyone will be on.
  • 90% of GOW3's achievements are kind of balls anyways. Especially that Seriously 3.0 bs. I understand having highly rewarding achievements, but that kind of stuff is just stupid. No one loves Gears of War 3 that much to grind to that level of completion and still like the game afterwords. If they do, then they probably don't like themselves very much for doing it. Seriously...
  • I know i'm chiming in a little late on this thread but Merry Gearsmas to all and Happy Halodays!! @102 I hate the people who complain that the "DLC was already on disk" what does it matter to you if they had it ready to go and withheld it making you download a 2GB file later or if it was already on the disk and it just unlocks? either way you still have to pay the same amout to get it and they decide what to give and what to hold. so everyone that complains about that...i'm sorry but your an iddiot @101 so what level of GS is acceptable for you? 10k? 15K? 60k? just because a GS is high doesnt mean all they care about is achievements. If youve been playing for 3-4 years you can have alot of games played that add up quickly even around 400-500 GS completed. And believe it or not some people actually enjoy playing games and have spent alot of time doing it. For me achievements have added longevity to some of my favorite games and make me try modes I wouldn't have normally tried. now I'm not an achievement whore but I do enjoy the extra challenge some achievements bring. the people who have ridiculosly high GS and near 100% thats another story. if you have Avatar and such in your list then yes you are. as for this one I welcome the challenge and adding all the extra DLC will make me more likely to try and get seriously because I enjoy every game mode in that game and everything you do adds up to the total. I would rather have a completionist achievement like that in games where anything and everything you do count instead of having a crap fest that is seariously 1.0 where only ranked kills count and even then they might not all count and either way theres no accurate counter to let you know so I can safely say I will not go for that one (there might be a good benchmark for you 101 ;) if they have seriously... from GoW1 then they have spent alot of time for an achievement and not probably "played that much" side note hats off to those of you who got that one even halfway legit when it first came out)
  • I personally think this is an awesome idea. I love it when great games have large achievement lists. It adds to the replay value and it will keep me playing it for alot longer.
  • this is def not the first game to hit 2000. warhammer was, followed by nat geo tv, then sesame street, then this
