I wonder if 343 has to pay to update halo 4?Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:36 PM
@1 I would guess no, it would be funny for Microsoft to charge themselves for a TU.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:36 PM
The publisher pays it if there is one.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:41 PM
@3 Publishers pay MS for updates yes, however MS is both the publisher and by extension (343i is a division of MGS)developer of the Halo 4 game, they would be paying themselves to update there own game. Not very logical.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:43 PM
Maybe they shouldn't focus more on their map packs and focus on making shipping their game complete.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:46 PM
Not too concerned as i already have a good capture device. Having theater mode in multiplayer is still an awesome feature that every game should have though.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 12:52 PM
Could someone please explain what Theater Mode is? Does?Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 01:04 PM
@7 is this your first halo game? It's a replay feature for previously played games.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 01:09 PM
@7: It's really a funny mode: you go to a movie theater, you buy popcorn and annoy people with stupid noises, farts, throwing popcorn and eating popcorn.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 01:22 PM
I always used theater mode as kill cam from CoD. There at least I could see instantly how ridiculous my death was. At least in Halo I can go back and laugh at it too. Wish they had this in gears, now that would be fucking comedy!Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 01:26 PM
I think people need to read this properly, it says "adding it to the Campaign and Spartan Ops", it is in the game but only in Multiplayer ATMFriday, November 02, 2012 @ 01:56 PM
Had the opportunity to play the multiplayer last night with some Microsoft reps and people from other GAME/Gamestation stores an I have to say im so much more pumped for this game IMO Best Multiplayer in a Halo game yet granted i haven't played much since Halo 3, but this i can see myself playing for a long time to come Can't wait to finish work on monday night so i can get straight online who needs sleep anywayFriday, November 02, 2012 @ 02:30 PM
I still have my fingers crossed for an API that satisfies all of the communities for Halo. The amount of stats Bungie provided allowed communities to flourish and compare stats with one another. Sites like HaloTracker need this API in order to keep hosting tournaments and providing statistics to our users and maintain the great community we've formed over the past ten years.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 02:30 PM
Campaign Theatre would simply be more icing to the already delicious cake :D I've gotten some pretty funny moments off my Reach campaign anyway, I'm sure the whole community would appreciate it. Clan Support? Meh. It's really hit or miss I'd say, like the sweetened tall glass of milk- except that some of us are disgusted by milk or are lactose intolerant. :p Some people just like to keep things simple and play things with a small pool of friends, others love to be competitive and compete against harder opponents. (Which yeah, both are okay- but when it comes to this being a necessity or just more niche in a corner... I can instantly pick.)Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 02:43 PM
Theater Mode was always pretty restricted for Campaign but at least they're still planning on possibly adding it. Clan support would be cool, loved that in Halo 2 though I also had less people on my friends list then as I do now.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 04:40 PM
I would like a theatre mode where it is easy to find a piece of gameplay even in a 1-2 hour clip. if not then don't bother.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 04:54 PM
"could add theatre mode" Shouldn't theatre mode already be in the game?!Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 05:07 PM
Halo 2's Clan Support is still one of the best features for any game in the history of XBL. In fact, Clan Support on Halo 2 was one of the reasons why I played so much Halo 2. It was great, no matter how many friends you had on, 2 to 7, we could always get a Clan match going, 3v3 to 8v8. And the Clan had its own rank that matched us up with other Clans of the same Rank which really kept it about as even as it could. It was all great until Halo 2 hit it real big online which brought all the cheating kids & annoying modders. To me Clan Support is a must for the gamers out there like me, who have plenty of friends to get Teams together & want some competition, without using an 3rd party website. I play a lot of Team Based games, i'm all about that, and when I get a good group of friends together & we play a group of Randoms, 9 times out of 10 they don't stand a chance. I'm going to enjoy Halo 4 for what it is, but if they add GOOD Clan Support, I could be playing it for well over a year.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 05:12 PM
clan support is great for those of us that are old enough. i have a strong feeling that most of the clans will be children though and this makes me very sad. children constantly ruin online gaming for me.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 06:07 PM
@18 Congrats at beating randoms with a set team, sounds challenging. Clan support would however be sweet First i thought theatre wasnt even in, campaign theatre is a feature i dont really use so meh.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 06:38 PM
@17 There is a theatre mode for MP matches. If you read the article it says campaign and co-op theatre could be added, and why it's not in the game at launch. "Theater Mode in Campaign did not make the cut for launch for various reasons of scheduling, rendering issues and some significant engine changes,".Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 08:58 PM
@20 Come on everyone enjoys having a 5 man pre-made. And those extra 2 randoms can make or break your team. Typically break it.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 09:07 PM
@17 What is it with people who comment before even reading the article?Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 10:14 PM
#23 takes the fun of making a complete spanner out of yourself. I'm not bothered about lack of campaign theatre mode, been talk already about a few weapons getting nerfed in the 1st TU, Saw is meant to pwn matches.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 10:27 PM
Clans? Making me reminisce about Halo 2.Friday, November 02, 2012 @ 10:39 PM
@21 - Maybe that's what I meant?Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 03:17 AM
@1 & 2. MS will have to pay themselves for the TU's. It's an accounting thing because one department is using the services of another and thus the cost has to be transfered from one deptartment to the other.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 05:18 AM
Wait, what?! Halo 4 doesn't have theatre?!Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 07:29 AM
@28: I'm unfamiliar with the Halo universe but isn't Cortana a hologram?Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 08:26 AM
People still play this childish cartoony tripe? I can understand kids playing this game, but if you are over 18 you need to take a long hard look at your life, and grow some balls.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 09:05 AM
You're cool 28.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 10:27 AM
@22 Sometimes yeah :) Im just average at shooters nowadays but unless its cod randoms it cant be all bad. Love stomping randoms with a premadeSaturday, November 03, 2012 @ 11:15 AM
shouldn't theatre mode be a feature anyway?Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 11:23 AM
@31 You're being a bit extreme dont you think?Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 11:50 AM
@31, If you are over 18 and you like to spend your time trolling internet discussions and insulting other people then YOU need to take a good long hard look at your life, not to mention grow a pair yourself since you like to insult people over the internet.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 12:15 PM
I am doing the opening shift at work on monday then working tuesday day time. I was supposed to be doing the shift with my mate who also plays Halo, but he now has the day off. So on the day of release I will be at work whilst he is home playing it. I am sad because of this.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 12:27 PM
@ 1 & 2: What many people dont understand is that most of the cost(the one we hear about all the time) to update a game is simple payroll. Development Companies have to pay their developers to work on implementing a title update, they dont just hand Microsodt $40,000. Most of that $40,000 pays for the time developers spend on the updates. Time is money after all. Source: I am an IT Developer.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 12:29 PM
And I forgot to add: So by extension - Yes, Microsoft/343 still has to pay for the title updates, they pay their employees to do the work like any other company.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 12:45 PM
Lesson learned, don't come on this site when a new game you intend to play releases, unless you want it spoiled. I would have thought that post would have been deleted by now, oh well.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 12:50 PM
@38 So what's MS/Sony charge for the certification of the update/patch? I know the first update is free, but any after that the developer/publisher has to pay for it. If most of the cost is employee salary wouldn't it be cheaper for smaller studios, since they don't have large development teams, to publish an update? I say this because the game Fez was made by basically one person, and he said it wasn't economically feasible for him to fix his game with an update because of the cost of the update.Saturday, November 03, 2012 @ 11:19 PM
@30 Cortana is an AI the hologram is just a represntation of her so she's not just a disembodied voice.Sunday, November 04, 2012 @ 05:48 AM
Well said Lothra. Now my story is ruined, great.Sunday, November 04, 2012 @ 07:27 AM
Kiki Wolfkill likes this thread discussion.Sunday, November 04, 2012 @ 07:41 AM
@28 I would believe you if 343 didn't already say the focus of the new trilogy was cortana's insanity therefore killing her off at the start is stupid and your troll attempt failedSunday, November 04, 2012 @ 09:15 AM
clan support?Sunday, November 04, 2012 @ 12:06 PM
I love theatre mode. My only tiny regret about Campaign theatre mode not being ready at launch, is that I won't be able to record clips for my achievements, like I did on Reach. That "If you came to hear me beg" cheevo was a pain in the ass.Sunday, November 04, 2012 @ 01:02 PM
@47 You can just redo them ^^ but yeah I agree for campaign it's kinda sucks that's it's not there from the startSunday, November 04, 2012 @ 01:31 PM
cant waitSunday, November 04, 2012 @ 03:48 PM
1 fucking day left, someone please hit me, nowMonday, November 05, 2012 @ 01:53 AM
Clan support! ^_^Monday, November 05, 2012 @ 02:13 PM
Clan support? Sounds good, I hope Waypoint offers something similiar to the BF:3 system.

Even more Halo 4 news now (just in case you haven't had your fill just yet), as Halo Waypoint's Jessica Shea has stated that future updates to 343's Master Chief comeback special could re-instate Theatre Mode (AKA Theater Mode) for Spartan Ops and the single-player campaign.
Furthermore, updates could also bring clan support to the table, as well as more combat data that could be conveyed to players on the fly. It'd be nice to find out how many times we've had our head blown off. "We are tracking all player skill data and while it will not be exposed in the game UI at launch, we have some ideas about how to give players access to that information, in a useful way, in the not-so-distant future." O'Shea noted in the latest Halo bulletin.
"Theater Mode in Campaign did not make the cut for launch for various reasons of scheduling, rendering issues and some significant engine changes," O'Shea continued. "However, we are treating Title Updates very differently for Halo 4 and rather than simply using them as opportunities for simple big fixes, we are thinking of them as a way to sustain and grow features and options, so it is possible you could see Saved Films made available for Campaign (as well as some other significant features) at some time in the not-too-distant future, but that's yet to be determined."
Clan support meanwhile hasn't been in a Halo game since Halo 2 (if we remember rightly), but it could return in one of these planned updates for Halo 4. "As we mentioned before, we plan to continue consistent and meaningful sustainment updates to improve and enhance player experience. Social constructs are something we too have missed since Halo 2, and we're looking at interesting ways to improve those experiences in the not-too-distant future," O'Shea commented. "I will be using that expression a lot. Get used to it."
Halo 4 is out on November 6th (as if you didn't already know by now). Read our Halo 4 review? No? Get on the case right now!
