Resident Evil 7 in Development Since at Least November 2012, Claims Costume Designer

Lee Bradley

Resident Evil 7 may have been in development since at least November last year, it has emerged.

That’s according to Karen Brakenridge, a former costume designer for motion capture and animation outfit House of Moves. Brakenridge’s online CV says that she worked as a "Costume Designer for the video game Resident Evil 7" between November 2012 until January 2013.

If Brakenridge’s CV is accurate, Capcom may have started work on Resident Evil 7 almost immediately following the release of Resident Evil 6.

Capcom itself isn’t ready to discuss the game, nor confirm or deny that it is in development. A rep told CVG, that the company "hasn't made any official announcements about Resident Evil 7, so we don't have a comment to make on this."

  • Make RE7 more like Revelations and less like RE6 and I'll be happy.
  • While there have been mixed reviews about the last few games, it prides me to see that they're not just giving up. While you do leave the opportunity to upset people with countless titles, it leaves options for those willing to keep with it. All-in-all, a good portions of fans would be pleased; the vast majority, however, shall always appear disgruntled.
  • Make it more like cod then anything else capcom,it will get perfect reviews.
  • #1 no make re7 more like the classics that's wut we want, or atleast its wut I want.
  • I'd want it like the Resident Evil 1 remake on the Gamecube. That was terrifying.
  • It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better
  • uggghh.
  • Revelations was clinical and soulless, like if Marks & Spencers made a Resident Evil game.
  • Does anybody even care anymore? If we consider how big the Resident Evil brand is vs. how many games in the franchise that it's produced that are actually worth their salt, it isn't a terribly impressive track record. Get back to the roots of what made the game great or just let it die once and for all.
  • Resident Evil 7- true horror returns in 2014
  • res 7 - co op horror with leon and someone else
  • @1 Please no, Revelations was horrible. I just hope they bring it back to the actual horror element, that's what they said about RE6. Look what it turned out to be. A full on gun fest, but that's what the whole gaming community is about now. Sad
  • wonder what the logo will be... perhaps a guy doing a handstand having a massive erection
  • #4 why would you want it exactly like the old RE's?....they're a product of their time no have this new one like Revelations & RE 4.
  • Make it like RE 1 and 2. I layed a brown log playing those games on the ps1.
  • RE7 = Resident Evil 1 Remake Graphics Best graphics for a resi PERIOD! gameplay Resident Evil 1 Remake Camera views stay to one point and move to another when character goes to a certain point bring back the open door scenes maybe boring to most but it gives you the chill not knowing whats behind it, Good rewards for completing the game in a certain hard time! Give it replayability with something to earn whilst you speed run! Puzzles..... lots and lots of puzzles making you go to one end of an area and think ahhh a piece is missing i think i should of checked that other area out abit more often.... Stuff like this will make it definately Resident Evil worthy! Or my hopes of a Resi 2 remake will just make me jizz all over the world but those hopes.... will not be shattered until the official news arrives.
  • I really hope if they are making RE7 to be a critical and commercial success... If it flops, Capcom's gonna be even closer to going bankrupt, and as a fan of a lot their series I don't want that to happen. But Capcom knowing what they're doing and taking their time to make an amazing game for all types of RE fans the odds are slim to none.
  • If they made it like RE 4 or 5 I'd be happy. 6 was crap
  • Resident Evil needs to introduce a new character that is weak and inexperience with B.O.W.s. just how Jill and Chris were in the original. I wish we could go back to the tank controls but better. Resident Evil 6 was a horrible excuse for a new chapter in the series. The story went to shit in RE6 in my opinion. Jake's story felt like a fanfiction, we know nothing about Ada still and The Family was barely mentioned. Just go back to it's original roots, lol. Something Capcom can't get right. I seriously didn't mind that you couldn't shoot and walk at the same time.
  • RE1: Good, RE2: Amazing RE3: Great, RECV: Amazing, RE0: Good RE4: Awesome, RE5: Terrible RE6: Ok.
  • Who honestly cares at this point? Support The Evil Within instead.
  • I'll be playing the Evil Within instead
  • For me resi 5 and ORC are the worst two . Remake and 2 are the best
  • I have low opinions on this news...To already be in production since last year seems like Capcom are milking this franchise to the Extreme...Wasn't it stated that a producer at Capcom said something along the lines of, there have been too many Resi title's released in such a short time and they have been over flooding the market? What ever happened to viewing the sales figures of " Revelations " and seeing if it out sold 6 so Capcom could re-think of what direction to take the series? Revelation's was good and I did prefer it over 6, which was a huge let down- 6 wasn't a horror game or even a game at that, it was like watching an action movie with mutants thrown in. If the series has elements of the old games and Revelations ( Like the genesis device was a great touch ), then I'm sold. If it's like 6... Sorry but the series can R.I.P and I'll keep my nostalgic memories of the older games.
  • I really like Resi 6. Operation Raccoon City was the bad one...my god
  • YYYEEESSSS............ Give us Resi 7 early, PLEASE!!!!
  • How about a remake of RE2 similar to the GameCube remake of 1? 2 was the best and one of my favourite games of all time. I would love to see some polish added to it and ditch the tank controls. At the very least can we get away from HUGE underground catacombs and retardedly large monsters. Even Leon in 6 barely reacted to the things he killed. Destroy a giant underwater fish monster and just thinks to himself "fuck, on to the next one". The first 2 chapters in the the Leon and Chris portion of RE6 were pretty good. It was neat to be involved in the actual outbreak. People running around getting attacked and shit was awesome. I'd even be ok with a return to Raccoon City as random survivors like Outbreak, but you know if the game actually worked properly.
  • honestly if true i hope no one buys it and they just let the series die finally they have been slowly destroying it since cv
  • I us to be a huge gigantic fan of resident evil. I have played them all even the wii ones, but my love for it have feel since re6, dont get me wrong I liked it but I also hated it,
  • I read this and would normally go, WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO more Resi, but after 6, I;m not sure I care enough.
  • I know this will get thumbs down but revelations sucked in my opinion it should of satyed of 3ds or whatever handheld, I think it should go back to its old roots but keep some of the last 2 or 3 games functions and what not.
  • *stayed on
  • Perhaps resi 7 could end up being a resi 2 remake! Nah, they arnt clever enough to make what most people want.
  • I had no interest in RE 6, looked more of the same nonsense from RE 5. While I appreciated Revelations swing towards more horror, I got bored of it quickly. RE was my second favorite series behind Silent Hill, but much like SH, it has gotten pretty horrible. Time to reboot completely.
  • Damn, they're still going strong, hunh? I haven't played any Resident Evils other than the first or fourth one. If they feature tight corridors and minimal ammo in RE7 I'd buy it. But I'm more interested in The Evil Within at this point.
  • Get the original team back together and then i will get excited. This game needs to plant its roots back in the ground since the money grabbing suits long since tore them out in pursuit of an easy buck.
  • @18 Agree, RE4/5 where good for the last/current gen (apart from the MP in 5). RE7 on XBone in a similar style would be welcome.
  • They should just remake (and I mean REALLY remake, like they did with RE1 on the Cube and not just HD-blow-ups) RE0-4 (incl. CV) in Panta Rhei. That would be amazing. I think at this point they will never make a really awesome RE game again. They are way to focused on young players that love games like CoD.
  • re5 one of the games im playing through at the moment (even though i owned it for about 4 years, its been gathering dust that long....) can't say its too bad but its not exactly ground breaking, not touched 6 yet either. but i will say i would rather an old skool style resi than the newer ones (going on 5)
  • hopefully this resident evil will actually be good.
  • People who say they don't want the original styled Resident Evil games have to remember if it wasn't for our generation of gamers you wouldn't have a Resident Evil 7 to look forward to. Me and many others are well within our rites to want the original style of Resident Evil games.
  • less action more survival horror
  • I bought resident evil 6 after it dropped in price and only beat one story, lost interest after. I wanna try revelations now that it's going down in price.
  • HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO TALK BULLSHIT IN THESE COMMENTS BEFORE THE INTERNET CLOSES ITSELF DOWN OUT OF SHAME AND DISAPPOINTMENT?! Fans? These guys call themselves fans whilst bickering and claiming factual opinion over what was good and what was not so good? Seriously, these comments have made me want to vomit and the incredible mental defecit displayed is truly horrifying. I'm just hopeful that Capcom don't listen to "fans", because if they listened to this "advice", it'd only cement a full Titanic for the Resident Evil franchise. To try to briefly summarise though; these comments are a lot like the "discussion" over the ME3 Ending, only with far less knowledge or direction behind them. Resident Evil is a huge franchise, but it is NOT your franchise, and no matter which direction Capcom go, they'll still end up pissing off at least a third of these so-called fans and these whiny, pathetic comments will persist. It's their franchise and for the most part, they've made great games. No-one is going to love all of them, just like you don't necessarily like all of the music that your "favourite band" plays, but that's the way things are, and as things stand in the grander "industry", I'm more than happy to remain supportive of Capcom's endeavours rather than just complain at them for "going in a direction I didn't quite like as much". Most of you guys should just expect your inevitable disappointment and shut up about it. All any of us can do is to wait and see, but this constant, repetitive hate train was old a year ago. Now it's just beyond absurd.
  • Not gonna be interested in this untill they make it like PS1 classics.
  • Personally i just want Remake2/3 just like the original got on the gamecube. Not taking anything away from the game but actually building on it instead. I was 10 when that released and i lost my shit when the 1st crimson head got up and started chasing me, wasnt expecting that at all haha. So long as they dont fuck with my preset camera's and tank controls il be happy Oh and release Outbreak file 3 already!
  • Capcom always do sequels so a new Resident Evil will always be vein development. How many Street Fighters have there been?
  • @44 Who are you to dictate who can and cannot have an opinion on a direction a favoured series is going. Some of us have been "fans" of the series since it first came... people like me. I cannot really call myself a fan of the series anymore because it no longer gets me hyped and i no longer really enjoy the gameplay on offer because its more or less a different genre these days - do i have to be happy with that, of course not but i wont have some random internet nobody telling me and others to shut up just because were on a percieved "hate train" or lack the inside knowledge or whatever other guff you were going on about.
  • CAPCOM needs to stop trying to win over a "new" audience and cater to it's loyal existing fan base. BRING BACK HORROR! Just look at The Last of Us. Naughty Dog can sell survival horror, why can't you?
  • Am I the only one who liked all the action in 6? It felt like a movie. I've played all the games to date and that clunky-no-run-and-shoot nonsense with puzzles and tight corridors serves no place in the gaming world today. Maybe ante up the fear factor but the control scheme in 6 and the cinematic feel isn't going anywhere folks.
  • @21, 22, 35: The Evil Within still looks pretty goofy/terrible at this point. If you're willing to show this off in public, I'm not convinced your devs give a hoot about quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rhbL72O219s#t=1134 (18:55 if it doesn't jump to the right time) @49: TLOU's single player wasn't scary. The infected jump about like monkeys until they reach something, then just stop and flail their arms. Those terrifying clickers that kill in one hit? You can just run to the opposite end of the room and you're good. It's selling point was more the cinematic feeling and 'great story'. Reinventing the Third Person Shooter isn't worth mentioning it seems. :,( TLOU's MP oscillates between absolutely terrifying and pure Benny Hill. It's pretty amazing.
  • Hopefully they will bring back Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy of course.. Those are my 2 favorite RE heroes...
  • Its so easy to fix Resident evil series, I really hope capcom get it right. Hopefully The Evil within will show how modern survival horror is done. Sadly there is some gamers who want everything to be the same sort of game of non stop action and shooting. Thats ok as there games like that already but there needs to be different game genre not 1 mass of copy cats clone. Even Leon's story in RE6 turned into a derp-derp shoot fest when it was suppose to be "back to its roots gameplay"
  • @51 Are you referring to the moment when the big bad chainsaw man bluntly stands by the crates as Sebastian cowers behind them? I don't mind. Tango still has time for polish. I'll judge the final product whenever it's out.
  • So I take it the rumored Final Hope DLC for RE6 with Claire Redfield was nothing more than a rumor? Damn that sucks since she's my favorite character. Maybe Claire will get a starring role in RE7 since she hasn't been in a main game since Code Veronica in 2000.
  • @44 How about a nice big slice of my shut the hell up cake?
  • I remember back when RE5 had been released, they said the next RE game would be a reboot, not a RE6. Then they made RE6. And now I guess RE7. I guess this is the same as the horrid RE movies, people keep paying for them, so they keep making them. They flat out said if people stopped going to the movies, it would obviously stop, but nope.. working on the next movie as well.
  • I only played the demo of Revelations and what a pile of SHIT that was! I loved 5 & 6 hopefully 7 is like those more.
  • Wait...I thought they said they was going to remake the series and go back to their roots?
  • Hey, in my books, more Resident Evil is a good thing. Would be nice to see an old character return, maybe more Mercenary modes with ones like in RE3/CVX(Battle Mode), maybe a kind of L4D Survival, just survive as long as you can. Optional co-op (Ada's RE6 Campaign style). Over the years Resident Evil has managed some fantastic ideas, it just needs to gather them all together. Even use some Dead Rising ideas and have HUGE hoards, maybe an open map, little direction, low visibility from fog/smoke/darkness. So far, Umbrella, TriCell, NEO-Umbrella and such are packed in, so a black market thing will be needed. I hope we see Barry, but based on the years, he's be around 53 this year, though that would be interesting. Might give an excuse to limit his movement, so no unlimited sprint, or tactical rolls.
  • Just drop the co-op for the main story campaign and mulitplayer just for online or local. Resident Evil scared me as a kid so much especially as your were alone, they need to bring it back to the roots.
  • Just going say this. I'm a fan. And I enjoyed the entire series. 1 to 6 and whatever was in-between.
  • @55 Claire won't return because she's part of a company that was in RE Degeneration. Something about terrorist, she's no longer in the field.
  • just redo 0-3 and CV in HD then reboot from there wesker alive and jill is still hot like in 3 bollocks to 4-6 resi 2 and GC remake best 5 is worst game
  • All the people saying they should make it like the originals... no they shouldn't, don't get me wrong I loved the originals but they just probably wouldn't sell very well with today's generation and that kind of gameplay doesn't really have a place with the way games are now and also I actually thought 5 was a lot of fun, playing it through with my wife was a blast, I don't get why some people think 6 is better than 5, 6 was terrible, the gameplay was awful and the story was crap. What they should do is completely forget everything that has happened (and i mean everything) and just start again.
  • @63 But in Degeneration she was part of it because she was involved in an outbreak. This type of scenerio involving her organization could be a great excuse to part her back into the action. Also, speaking of Degeneration, I personally would love to see RE7 make use of a return of the G-Virus.
  • @65 capcom say that as well that it wouldnt work now and survival horror wouldnt sell but its just an excuse for them not trying what really doesnt fit in this generation is them turning it into a combat orientated shooter because there are too many games that do it better right now, survival horror is what made the series its name and if they did a good job of it people would buy it
  • I personally rather have a complete reboot
  • i lost hope in the Resident Evil Series. If they pull their insight from the remake of Resident Evil for the Gamecube and keep RE6's controls they might have a fighting chance. Sad to say this because I did punch a guy for saying Resident Evil 4 was terrible.
  • Zombies are the new thing. I'm glad. Take away these vampire and werewolf children.
  • and my Gamerscore is 10k shy... wtf? THIS COMMENT IS IRRELEVANTTTT!!!!
  • @1 Make it more like Resident Evil 1, 2 and Nemsis and I'll be happy, after that, it all went to shit.
  • We have Shinji Mikami bringing survival horror back with The Evil Within, so I honestly could care less what Capcom does with RE from here on out. Personally, rebooting the franchise is the best option; the plot has become far too convoluted. Neo Umbrella and Wesker Jr.? Give me a break...
  • [Comment deleted]
  • @44 who the fuck are you to say what people can and can't like? the biggest bitch here is you, your entitled to your opinion much like everyone else, but don't be an asshole.
  • If they make this with the controls of 4 or 5, the move and shoot part of 6, and the environment of 1 or 0, it'll be good.
  • I want something like the RE:Outbreak games. Normal people with their own particular skills, huddled together to try and survive. Leave the pack and you were Zom-bait.
  • Resi Evil Rev was awesome 6 was dire.
  • Crapcom are in the shit financially, so they're possibly trying to get as much out as possible in the hope that they can get money coming in. Then they can nickel and dime everyone with disc-locked content.
  • RE is Dead to me love 1234 5 was ok 6 was not a RE game in my eyes
  • Whatever they do, PLEASE don't bring back the horrible fixed camera
  • I was completely disinterested in the series until I played 5. I thoroughly enjoyed 5, but I've heard that it's a completely different game if you play it by yourself (I ran through in co-op with my GF). We've since played 6 and beat Jake and Chris' campaigns. SO, really, what I'd like from 7, is 5's weapons system (find guns, buy upgrades, unlock secret guns etc) coupled with 6's controls, seeing as they were more streamlined and comfortable. Honestly apart from that I couldn't give a rat's ass.
  • @81 the fixed camera is what made old games scary.
  • my gf's aunt just got an awesome 6 month old Volkswagen Touareg by working parttime off of a pc. Read Full Report http://www.jobs64.com
  • I don't even know what I want from Resident Evil anymore.
  • I stopped playing these games once they seemed to really go away from what made them entertaining. I miss the old days of RE, fearing going into a room or turning a corner in worries of what I'll be facing.
  • Just make it like RE1 on the gamecube. Or if they want to push co-op make it like Resident Evil0. Either way I definitely won't "Day1" buy it..not after RE6. Will wait it out to see how it turns up.
  • I have a message from the future... Capcom goes bankrupt and the rest of the Japanese developers take notice and fix this shit.
  • @48/56/75 : And who are you to EXPECT or DEMAND certain things from Capcom? Or to STATE what IS or IS NOT "good" or "shit"? The bare truth is this : There are people who love the original Survival Horror Resident Evils, there are people who love the RE4/RE5/Revelations style, there are people who love RE6 and all of it's cinematic "Uncharted" Action sequences, there are people who loved the on-rails games, there are people who'd love to see a Resident Evil Text-based Adventure game or Point and Click Adventure. The point is this : The self-proclaimed "fans" of Resident Evil can't even agree on what they liked or didn't like and they're all trying to push or pull Capcom in their own directions stating their pissy little "opinions" as cast-iron FACTS! They need to accept that no matter what Capcom do, most of them are going to be disappointed, and as such, they should just move the fuck on and shut the hell up. I've liked all of the Resi games I've played, and I've been a fan since the start, but that's because I don't expect or demand. I respect and accept any developer's decisions even if I think they're stupid. And sure, I may even complain about certain things I didn't like, but I will not sit around whining and bitching at every mention of their name or their product, and I'm more than open to discussion. The majority of comments in this article come from narrow-minded idiots who believe that their own arrogance and self-assurance entitles them to incessantly talk shit about everything, and given the language barrier (between the japanese dev team and the majority of the gaming public) and the incredibly vocal gaming media, I imagine Capcom reading shit like this to understand why RE6 wasn't the success they wanted it to be. I've seen "fan feedback" ruin games (Red Faction : Armageddon springs to mind) because developers listened to them, and if the driveling, dischordant cacophany seeping out of the fetid, venom-filled shitholes of the gaming public is as terminally "messed up" as it is here, and Capcom choose to listen to that, then the franchise really will be screwed.

  • I love the Resident Evil series. Except Raccoon City that game, was terrible.
  • Here of top list of Resi Evil series in my opinion as well which version of consoles I been played on them. :) 1. Resident Evil 4 - GameCube (Best Resi Evil series ever made) - 98% 2. Resident Evil - GameCube (2nd best of series) - 95% 3. Resident Evil 2 - PSone - 90% 4. Resident Evil Code: Veronica - DreamCast - 90% 5. Resident Evil 3 - PSone - 87% 6. Resident Evil: Revelations - Xbox 360 - 84% 7. Resident Evil Zero - GameCube - 80% 8. Resident Evil 6 - Xbox 360 (Most glitched Resi Evil series) - 79% 9. Resident Evil 5 - Xbox 360 (Worst Resi Evil series but still good game) - 70% Cannot wait for Resident Evil 7 in future. Hopeful 7th series will jump up unlike how disappointed is that 6 and 5 isn't jumped into best or near best in the series. Both far both bottom then other series. So 7th series is hopeful going be kick-ass and epic once again since Resi Evil 4. :)
  • Post 89 is the most narrow mind bullshit I've read on the page. If you want to bring Red Faction : Armageddon. into it, it was not fan feebback that changed the series, the publisher listened to gamers who didn't like the previous game and wanted very linear shooter. Which is what certain people want with the R.E. series! The bottom line is if capcom make a creepy survival horror game, LOTS of people will be happy and the only people bitching will the A.D.D. shooter brigade
  • my gf's aunt just got an awesome 6 month old Volkswagen Touareg by working parttime off of a pc. Read Full Report http://www.jobs64.com
  • @93 : - Resident Evil 6 was not received well by masses of "fans" and the gaming media? Check. - Capcom want to make the Resident Evil game the "fans" want? Check. - The "fans" have no idea about what they really want? Check. How is this not looking like Red Faction : Armageddon again? Oh, and just reading these comments you can see as plain as day that the "true survival horror fans" are maybe a fifth of all of "the fans". You don't get to call all of those others the "A.D.D Shooter Brigade" when you yourself are being just as discriminating and dickish in your remarks. At least my criticisms are global and I'm fair in my contempt for all of you fuckers. ;) And I really think you're going to be disappointed with RE7. Mercs is here to stay for a start and Revelations seems to be the template for the future of the series. Try not to rage too hard. :D

  • So far the older the better with Resident Evil. Hoping otherwise for Resident Evil 7.
  • Capcom Please stop killing Resident Rvil..Remember RE 1 when you opened the front door for the first time and the zombie dogs rushed you... or RE 2 when the first Licker Crawled past the window or the zombie hands grabing you though the wall..The moments that got you so scared you checked you undies after. Those moments are what made me love Resident Evil. Those moments that became a events in my life became a part of what made me who i am. Do you remember Capcom...HORROR...not action..not zombies with guns...not tons of ammo... The fans around the net was begging for Resident Evil 2 on the 360 and ps3. Capcoms CEO said maybe Did you stop to think why the fans want a old game from 1998 so bad? is it Because 5-6 was that bad or because RE 2 is that good? ANSWER:Both This is how good things always come to a end..If it aint broke dont fix it..Resident Evil 7 is really your last chance with me..I better get a Resident Evil game not COD... Not that Capcom cares.
