Telltale Would Love to Make a James Bond Game

Richard Walker

The Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us developer Telltale Games has expressed a desire to make a James Bond game, should budget and red tape not be an issue. Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder Kevin Bruner says he's a "giant James Bond fan" and would love to build a game in which 007 is the star and shooting takes a back seat to being an actual spy.

"I'm a giant James Bond fan and I'm always frustrated by games that make him a mass murderer," said Bruner. "He's a super-spy, and that's a different skillset. The films make him less of a mass murderer, and there's not much killing in the books - more spying and intrigue."

With Telltale Games having more than enough on its plate, thanks to The Walking Dead Season Two, Wolf Among Us and the upcoming Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, a new game is unlikely for the time being. It's also possible that the dev could even consider tackling a Star Wars game or even a new IP.

"Licensing has played an important part in enabling this company to do as much as it's done without having to create a new IP wholecloth, which is a big undertaking with a lot of associated risk," CEO Dan Connors stated "[But] as we become bigger and can execute that, it gets more and more attractive.

"I think we're looking more at 'Can we engage some great storytelling mind to come in and work with us on something and make it not just a game franchise, but a full-on entertainment franchise with comics or a TV show and such and build it all together at once?' We really see that as the next thing that's gonna happen."

Could Telltale Games one day take over the world? Watch this space.

  • I would like to see them not wait months between episodes in the games they already have...guess no one gets what they want
  • Perhaps they could just focus on getting The Wolf Among Us Ep. 2 out first?
  • Sounds like a good idea. I hope the gap between episodes of surrent titles doesn't increase along with the increased workload!
  • I would be cautious if they tried a new ip because their games so far rely on the licenses they are from to do a new ip in the same kind of game would require the writers to really pull something amazing off
  • Would love to see Daniel Craig in such a game. Since he has portrayed Bond in just as many video games as movies I'm sure he'll consider it.
  • @1 exactly and also reduce all the frame rate drops during certain scenes it gets quite annoying. For example if you die the framerate starts incredibly low when the games continues from the checkpoint.
  • @1 agree.
  • So....if they go after the 007 liecense that would give them what 8 franchises (Walking Dead, Back to the Future, JP, Fables, Game of Thrones, Borderlands, Sam and Max, Wallance and Gromit) with 2 of them out and people waiting on new episodes (Fables, TWD) and two of the just announced (GoT, Borderlands). Maybe they should stop expanding and focus on what they have in front of them first. I personally would love to see BttF come to XBLA since they now can do it independently why don't they throw it out there for us that don't have a PC/PS3 instead of going out and trying fill their already full bucket.
  • Ignoring the busy schedule they have, I love the sound of this.
  • @8 in total they have quite a lot more than that but most arent currently being worked on so dont effect anything, only titles they currently have in production are fables, walking dead, game of thrones and borderlands that we know of. also chances of their old titles coming to xbox now are pretty slim i would guess at least at this point in time
  • The original books were great reads. Waiting for episode 2 is not so great.
  • @10: Don't you think that 4 titles for a smaller developer is a lot on their plate. 2 of which have a rabbid fan base that expect nothing but greatness. I don't understand why a port of BttF is out of the question, with MS giving up the need for a publisher for game they could just port it over and release it. Also, I can see a new JP game with the new movie coming out something like a episodic story with how they found their groove is out of the question.
  • As has already been said, they should work on getting the current content out in a timely fashion. I always forgot about TWD, so when I would come here and find it was out (randomly), I'd be pleasantly surprised and pick it up right away. Maybe that's their plan: Impulse buying? "Oh look it's out, must buy it."
  • Because a Sony had a deal for abstract exclusivity, and the time has past where a port makes sense.
  • Telltale rocks!
  • @12 well i never said it wasent just that its not 8 but tbf with the nature of their games no i dont see it as too many anyway, theyre episodic adventure games they generally do an episode of a game like this a month and theyre about 5 episodes long so them finishing walking dead and fables then starting borderlands and game of thrones before the end of this ear shouldnt really be anything special on the ports if it was going to happen it would have done when they released it, its been nearly 3 years since then so the likely hood of them doing it now is pretty slim
  • Nah, this would have to be a pass for me I just don't think it would work.
  • Well certainly love to see the try but sure be a lot of work for them since they have the 'Walking dead', 'Wolf among us' so I'm curious about what they'd do for 'James bond'
  • I would like to see a Breaking Bad game. WOULD be epic. Cant wait until the borderlands episodes come out.
  • A point and click James Bond game...? The fuck? No.
  • Telltale is grabbing way too many games just focus on the walking dead and the wolf among us, then when those are done then u can work on whatever fantasy u guys always wanted to do.
  • Hell no.
  • Hell yes.
  • i'd like to see wolf among us ep. 2 finally before i hear of any new franchise telltale wants to do.
  • I really enjoyed TWD and Ep 1 Wolf Among Us, and I think a Bond series would actually work really well in this format (would be happier with this than another horribly executed shooter/racing game with wonky camera controls).
  • I've been waiting MONTHS for The Wolf Among Us Ep. 2‚Ķjust release that first, plus the other three episodes before you start with all your nonsense.
  • Omg yes please!
  • I think they could get this working amazingly tbh, less shooty, more spy-y. Lol.
  • I'd definitely be interested in playing this. Do it up Telltale. Best actor to use as the model? None of them. Instead, they should use this drawing done by Ian Fleming himself:
  • James Bond would be awesome, they could explore the secret spy side more instead of the usual Bond shooting game. I've played most of what TT has released & I'd say they all have been amazing. Sure some of them hasn't been top-notch but hey it was fun. I can't really say I'm looking forward to the BL or GoT games ... Meh. Now with them releasing new episodes for the 2 games they have out ... they will release them when there ready. Don't rush the product or we'll end up with a semi finished product.
  • Please do it as long as one of the options in every conversation has to have Bond... James Bond.
  • Yeah cause everyone loves games in which all you do is watch a bunch of cutscenes and do a few QTE's.. oh wait, based on the popularity of TWD and TWAU, they do
  • Three immediate thoughts: A. I'd love them to Google "next gen" so that they stop embarrassing themselves by making all thier current and upcoming games for old consoles. B. Just finish the games we've already paid for. Sheesh. C. A next gen telltale bond? Released in one hit? Sign me up!
  • Finish their other games first and god please no.
  • I'm sure they will finish games in development first. Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead Season 2 have been great so far, and I can't wait to crack on with them when they finally get released.
  • Sounds like it would work on numerous levels.... I really want the wolf among us to resurface though... we can't hang on this cliff forever. They need to expand their workforce, and then they can take on more projects!
