Undead Labs has revealed more details on the upcoming Lifeline DLC for State of Decay, following the expansion's initial announcement earlier this month. Lifeline is billed as "an expansion that explores the military side of the zombie apocalypse."
As well as adding a new map, the add-on will portray another side to usual bad guy role of the military in other zombie games, a view that Undead Labs considers "fairly one-sided and naïve". The State of Decay team will be looking to show a divergent military perspective, depicting the "many good men and women who stand on the line that divides safety and civilization from chaos and war," posing a number of "life-atering choices".
Playing as part of surviving military unit Greyhound One, you'll be sent to the fallen city of Danforth where you'll have to rescue scientists and salvage research that could prove critical in fighting the zombie outbreak. You'll begin as a well-equipped unit with plenty of resources, and have to improvise as those resources steadily and permanently deplete.
You'll set up a Landing Zone from which you'll be able to obtain supplies and extract civilians, forming a base that you'll have to defend from the undead hordes. Lose too many civilians to the slavering zombies and your mission will come to an unceremonious end. A perimeter of minefields and other defences will be available to build and upgrade, and you'll also be able to call in artillery and deploy trained soldiers to guard weak points and deal with imminent zombie threats.
Should the zombies break through your defences and into your base, a fraught battle of "tooth versus blade" will ensue, ultimately deciding whether your base will survive or fall. Undead Labs is promising more details on State of Decay's upcoming Lifeline DLC in the run up to its release, which is yet to be dated. Sounds pretty good so far though, right?
