Lords of the Fallen's Challenging Combat, Dark Souls Comparisons and Learning Curve - Video Interview

Lords of the Fallen might just offer the best of both worlds. It's a story-driven action RPG in which you play as Harkyn, a man with a chequered past on the search for redemption, and it has combat that's favourably compared to From Software's seminal Dark Souls. There's an array of customisable armours, weapons and other gear, and you'll have to work hard to earn it.

What's more, CI Games and Deck13 are looking to balance the game's level of challenge somewhere between the sadistic bloody-mindedness of Dark Souls and its sequel, and something more accessible or palatable to less experienced players. Lords of the Fallen is still incredibly tough though, as we quickly discovered during our hands-on at E3.

Having been bested by the game's Champion Lord, we got some time to discuss the game with Executive Producer, Tomasz Gop, whose former experience on The Witcher has taught him some valuable lessons. Watch our interview for more on the game's difficulty, learning curve, customisation, combat and the Dark Souls comparisons.

Lords of the Fallen is out for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 28th in North America and October 31st in Europe.

  • Like the fact they say it's challenging, I just hope they get the balance right as they say they are trying for, there is a big difference between challenging and being cheap shotted at every turn. Really looking forward to this one.
  • Kind of interested in this, never know it was coming out but very interested now just hope it's purely single player or only at certain points its multiplayer and that's optional too.
  • @ The X360 guys, that was a quality interview, well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • huh where the hell did this game come from, looks really good.
  • Glad there are a bunch of RPG's coming out which look great xD
  • I hope that's a custom character and not who we'd be stuck with. Doesn't look half bad with gameplay but probably not as deep as DS. As an Xbone game it's too bad it definitely has the visuals of Dark Souls
  • @6 If you actually watched it, he states it's Harkyn's story. You can't change his physique or appearance.
  • This is going to be a great....and I mean GREAT!!!! October for gaming...lords of the fallen, middle earth, dragon age, evil within, sunset overdrive, assassins creed unity, battlefield hardline, evolve,...
  • Looks amazing
  • @6 whats wrong with dark souls visuals? they are meant to look old, gritty and out of place as that is to suit the atmosphere of the game as it would be kinda crap playing through dark souls with call of duty type graphics as it wouldn't suit the game whatsoever
  • @8 - Take out Assassin's Creed and Battlefield, replace them with Alien and you have my list of October purchases. Going to be a very busy month indeed.
  • Never heard of this game, saw the mention of comparison to dark soups and was like "take my moniez nao!" Hope this does go for a more dark souls brutal challenge, I've grown weary of these type of RPG that are just a case of walking from place to place not being challenged unless a massive crowd of enemies all turn up at once...witcher also being one of those easy titles that I grew bored of very quickly, I have both on PC and whilst there was promise in there, it never lived up to what I hoped for and the glitches......ooooooo..... Hope this game turns out good, I would like to have another game to "enjoy" rather than these often poor attempts at being interactive movies we've had for the most part of a decade
  • This game looks insane, and just watching it makes me hope they release DS2 on X1 at some point. The lighting in this trailer is beautiful. That and the interior design looks fantastic (honestly better than DS from what I'm seeing, but the opposite is true for exterior. If these two games had a baby, I'd never leave my house).
  • .... is that Tom Selleck on the cover? Am I the only one seeing this?
  • I really think that this game is made for me. When I think of "Lords Falling", I think of Kanye West deciding to marry Kim Kardashian. I just hope for the QTE divorce settlement to end the game for an achievement.
  • @15 WTF xD
  • stopped watching when he said he thought the combat was more important than the story.
