Lords of the Fallen might just offer the best of both worlds. It's a story-driven action RPG in which you play as Harkyn, a man with a chequered past on the search for redemption, and it has combat that's favourably compared to From Software's seminal Dark Souls. There's an array of customisable armours, weapons and other gear, and you'll have to work hard to earn it.
What's more, CI Games and Deck13 are looking to balance the game's level of challenge somewhere between the sadistic bloody-mindedness of Dark Souls and its sequel, and something more accessible or palatable to less experienced players. Lords of the Fallen is still incredibly tough though, as we quickly discovered during our hands-on at E3.
Having been bested by the game's Champion Lord, we got some time to discuss the game with Executive Producer, Tomasz Gop, whose former experience on The Witcher has taught him some valuable lessons. Watch our interview for more on the game's difficulty, learning curve, customisation, combat and the Dark Souls comparisons.
Lords of the Fallen is out for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 28th in North America and October 31st in Europe.
