Microsoft has announced that Minecraft: Pocket Edition is now available for Windows Phone 8.1, meaning the game can now be snapped up for Windows Phone, iOS and Android, enabling you to join the community of over 100 million Minecraft players by building worlds on the move.

You can build your own creations anywhere at anytime, as well as getting stuck into Minecraft: Pocket Edition's Survival and Creative modes, enabling you to craft, create and explore on the train, on a car trip, on a plane or wherever you take your phone, "as long as they have thumb strength and battery to burn".

Minecraft: Pocket Edition also enables you to play in multiplayer using a local Wi-Fi network to team up with friends to explore biomes, battle monsters and create new worlds together. That said, the game doesn't have Xbox Live integration. You can do all of that on Windows Phone 8.1 now. Minecraft: Pocket Edition can be downloaded here and costs $6.99/£4.99.

  • You know it doesn't have Xbox Live integration right?
  • @1 it does mention that in the article. Its pretty bad when a mircosoft published game doesn't have achievements on its own platform, it probably just was a quick port
  • @1 Can easily be fixed with an update.
  • I will get it when it has Xbox Live integration.
  • Really because every other avenue was not enough... They realm are milking the hell outta this one aren't they...
  • Really*
  • Totally shocked to see a squillion selling product on a new platform. Totes.
  • No achievements?? And MS paid 2 billion dollars to buy the game...wtf are they doing.
  • @5: What about the guy who ONLY has a Windows Phone that he could buy this on? There's literally only one guy in that situation, but he should still have his chance to play it.
  • @8 I really can't see the sense in your arguement. How in god's name do achievements have anything to do with them shelling out the money for it? Really. I really don't think after they bought it, they sat down, had a meeting and Phil Spencer said "Right lads, we spent 2 billion dollars on this. What achievements can we put in?!"
  • well you know some people do like playing games regardless of achievements involved an all that, shit look how popular that candy crush crap is. will still sell a bit.
  • @9 I can see your point but those odds are rediculously low but if thats the case and its someone's only avenue to play it then cool I guess but I'd be willing to bet that anyone who cares about Minecraft would already have it therefore making this nothing more that a cash grab. However my original post was actually meant to convey that with it on so many platforms with so much dlc that this is getting a bit ridiculous. But hey if their truly is that much demand for it then I guess it is fine... Just never saw this coming at all.
  • #9 I feel sorry for that guy. I was that guy, I saw the light and got an iPhone.
  • @13: Did you try Windows Phone at least? I've had a Nokia Lumia 928 and its literally the most durable, fastest phone I've ever owned(which included my fair share of androids and a stint with iphone). Its so quick and easy to do things on this phone that the only way I'll switch to anything else is if they stop making windows phone. The "there are no apps" argument is virtually irrelevant now, with small exceptions like the Destiny Companion app and boom beach. The only thing I wish it did better was flash. I randomly have trouble playing some .GIFS from imgur and other places. All that said, it really doesn't make sense for Minecraft not to have Xbox Live Integration.
  • @13: Nevermind. Totally missed the "I was that guy" part of your comment.
  • No Achievements. No deal.
  • @10 You do realise what website you're on right. Thought we were all Achievement Whores here. Ah... This place ain't what it used to be.
  • You can tell the age of users here simply by whether they care about achievements or not.
  • #18 elaborate.
  • I would have liked to have achievements for it, but I snapped this up regardless. Only £4.99, and its great being able to play it on my Lumia 635. Works just fine. Achievements aren't the be all and end all. Sure its great to earn them, but when its a game I love, I don't need achievements to prolong the life span of a game.
  • Would have got this if it had achievements.
  • Yesterday I picked up a brand new Lotus Esprit after making $6059 this – 4 weeks past an would you believe $10 thousand this past-month; this is actually the most-comfortable work I’ve had . I actually started 10-months ago and pretty much immediately got minimum $80 per-hr . Get More Info @ BEST HOME BASE CHILDREN DEAL ..... WWW.MONEYKIN.COM
  • I do have mine craft on my Xbox one. But the only portable device for gaming is my windows phone. So I am that small percentage. Gutted no achievements or Xbox integration. But it is an awesome game and will still pick it up some point with or without achievements.
  • £4.99 and no achievements? Not interested. And that is microsofts fault for introducing achievements. Wow even Microsoft cant be arsed to release live enabled games anymore. Why did they bother buying out Nokia?
  • It's really kinda sad how many people won't buy a game unless it has achievements. I'll be the first to say that I love achievements and usually check the list before I buy a game, but they don't impact whether I buy it. I buy a game because I want it and the achievements are a fun thing to do on the side. Ask yourself, at your funeral, how many people will talk about you gamerscore?
  • @25 I agree. The thing that bugs me is when I buy a retail game that has achievements and then the DLC doesn't...that bugs me. *cough*Destiny*cough*. OT: Microsoft paid $2.5 billion for this franchise. I'm not sure why anyone's complaining about this, as they have to start making that money back now. A big ass "Microsoft" logo on PS4 will probably be their next update, then the XBL integration for mobile, I would guess.
  • @26 wow...you agree? I was honestly expecting to have 30 thumbs down by now. Instead I have someone agreeing. Like you, I also dislike when DLC doesn't have achievements.
  • @17 I fully know what website I'm on but my point had nothing to do with that. I was referring to Microsoft's business sense, not mine or others desire to get achievements.
  • If it was cheaper then id get it, but £4.99 for a 13mb sized game. I've downloaded larger well worth this price. So I'm assuming this doesn't have massive worlds?
  • I'm bummed that there are no XBL achievements but oh well, I'm sure integration will come eventually. Microsoft probably fast-tracked a Windows Phone port following the acquisition and prioritized just getting it on the Store and sealing the app gap first and foremost.
  • For everyone whining about no live integration and achievements when Microsoft bought Minecraft... Please just shut up... things like that take time to do and I'm sure they were already working on making this for the windows phone long before Microsoft bought them.
