No More Last-Gen Assassin's Creed as Just Dance Becomes Ubisoft's Only Remaining Xbox 360 and PS3 IP

With Assassin's Creed Syndicate set to follow the same example as Unity in being an Xbox One, PS4 and PC-only release, this year there'll be no Assassin's Creed: Rogue equivalent for Xbox 360 and PS3. Ubisoft has confirmed that Just Dance will be its only last-gen franchise moving forward.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that plan during the company's earnings call yesterday, stating that from this fiscal year onwards, none of its other franchises will release for last-gen platforms. “On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions. But on the other products like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions,” said Guillemot.

Meanwhile, a new AAA title is also in the offing at Ubisoft, due for announcement later in the year. Details on the mystery title are practically non-existent, but the teased reveal won't come during E3 next month. We should have more on Assassin's Creed Syndicate at E3 though, so that's good.

  • I'm not sure on the general feel for Rogue, but I thought it was a nice send off for old gen, I actually enjoyed Rogue, more than Unity.
  • Finally. That means games are being compromised to run on last gen tech.
  • * are not
  • Almost thought the article said No More Assassin's Creed. I'm only seven or eight games behind... :/
  • honestly saddened by this. Rogue was a great game and helped feed the Ac addiction while unity was (and still is) a buggy mess. I really hope their Dev team steps up this year as we will have no AC games to fall back on if this fails.
  • its about time
  • Very pleased with this news. There's a massive amount of games available for the 360, if you haven't upgraded yet and don't want to then make use of what's already there as I bet you haven't played them all.
  • hope this improves the quality of current gen games and no holding back because of last gen equivalents
  • About time lets hope others follow.
  • At least with Just Dance, nobody can complain that last general is holding that game back. It's not like it would be any better.
  • *gen
  • I'd say I'm glad Ubisoft wants to try to cater to current generation consoles, as this brings the games to a more technically advanced dedicated... But they already have each generation an exclusive and then treated current generation like EA treated BF4... Obviously we all know that... So obviously Rogue didn't sell nearly as well as Unity... Which is a shame because I played that AC for less time than any other main series title.
  • this just gives me reason to get an x1 so much sooner, even then though im still gonna be rocking both gens. as #7 said such a huge log of older games i havent picked up yet or got round too so im good either way.
  • Good News! that means they cant change their mind and say The Division and Rainbow Six Siege will be coming to last gen also. That means they can fully concentrate in making the games awesome on Current gen :)
  • @#5 Unity got fully patched up a while ago, have you played it recently?
  • Because unity was a game that was fully realised with the new technology :p.

  • Unity and Rogue were both awesome. I did Unity after it was patched and didnt run into any bugs at all.
  • Good. Now let's see all the other devs do the same!
  • This is good news. Sorry for those that still haven't picked up the new consoles, but catering to the older hardware is limiting the new games. Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 look like good examples of unshackled current Gen games. Also hoping this means it will be easier to manage their developmental resources and have fully functioning games without dividing their team on to so many platforms. But that's probably wishful thinking.
  • i still do not care for the next gen consoles do not own a xbox one or ps4
  • Just no more bugs please?
  • @2 Unity didn't compromise and it sucked anyway.
  • THIS IS GREAT NEWS... for last-gen gamers :)
  • Richard... "Assassin's Creed: Rogue" WAS for 360 & PS3. I think you meant there will be no "Assassin's Creed Syndicate" equivalent for 360 or PS3 (please note your correction in the article). Thanks! :-)
