Ori and the Blind Forest is getting a Definitive Edition, complete with new content and redesigned bits and bobs.

The new stuff? It hasn’t been categorically detailed yet, but director Thomas Mahler told Game Informer. “We really went back, added more content, fixed ALL the things people have been asking for (not talking about bugs here, but actual design and content feedback) and we just want to give back and make it the perfect experience for people who loved Ori and those who haven't gotten to try it yet.”

Additionally, during Microsoft’s coverage of Gamescom 2015, Mahler and project manager Gennadiy Korol added that there will be new areas, artwork, mechanics, and "potentially new abilities."

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition comes to Xbox One and Windows 10 later this year. You can read our review of the original release here.

  • great game I hope owners of the original version get it for a low price or maybe free?
  • The original game came out just 5 months ago! What the hell! I really hope we get a free upgrade! -_-
  • They need to make it easier before I spend money
  • will this just be a new version of the game or will they just update the current one like what geo wars 3 did? I dont mind either way.
  • Fix the areas that shut off so you can go back please.
  • Are we also getting a physical version of the game? I would love to have this game to my game collection in my library!
  • If the additions aren't free (or at the very least, cheap DLC) for people who already own the game it's a massive "fuck you" from the developer to anyone who actually supported the game from the beginning. And how about fixing the buggy achievement tracking on the game before adding in more stuff to make money? Plenty of people have been screwed out of the collectibles and secrets achievements due to that.
  • Glad I waited but damn but there should be a free / cheap update for people who bought in early
  • Loved the game and would be happy to return to it if there's new content. I'll gladly pay for full expansion, but a patch with new features HAS to be free. Just look at the Witcher, and what the devs been doing with it in the patches.
  • I only bought this a few weeks ago. I'd be a little miffed if they now released a new version rather than patching the game (assuming what they've done can be done by patch alone)
  • Glad I haven't bought/played it yet.
  • We should get it for free
  • Bought this on release day and thought it was a very enjoyable 1k. I'd play through it for more achievements and content, but as said above, I'd expect a steep discount since I supported these guys on day 1.
  • Look on the bright side, early adopters; no matter how they decide to handle this definitive edition, there's no way you'll be screwed as badly as the last-gen Borderlands: TPS scenario.
  • @#7 Hoping to get free upgrade for this. Bought it on PC and haven't played it much, but on PC when they upgrade a game you normally get it for free. I won't pay twice that's for sure, even at discount;-)
  • Gaming is just re-cycling and re-releasing everything these days. The game is a digital only release 6 months old and gettin an defenitive edition? What's the point? Ridiculous
  • Is there any point in buying a new release anymore? A new version of said release is only 6 months away. But do you purchase then? Or wait for a new 'definitive' version?
  • In the comments of their announcement tweet, they keep responding with "there will be a very comfortable upgrade path" for current owners. Not sure what that means but free sounds comfy to me.
  • i really wish devs and pubs would stop throwing around Definitive as if its a massive upgrade. this game isnt even that old. why release the same game again with some additional stuff and charge full price for it.
  • With the Gears(not so) Ultimate Edition and this, it seems we're getting shafted left and right.I bought the game day one.The "upgrade better be cheap if not free.
  • You're all just customers to them. I doubt they could care less about your "loyalty"
  • Hopefully they'll let owners of the original Ori And The Blind Forest upgrade for a discount... otherwise we wouldn't have much of a reason to fork out full price for this.
  • Lol why not release the new areas as DLC? i bet money that the discount offered to previous players will be like £5. How can they justify a definitive edition of a game thats already on XB1?!
