Borderlands is Now Backwards Compatible for Xbox One Preview Members

Richard Walker

The first Borderlands game will be coming to Xbox One as a Backwards Compatible Xbox 360 title for Preview Members today, before becoming available to all Xbox Live users when Backwards Compatibility releases publicly for Xbox One in November 2015.

If you already own Borderlands, you'll be able to play it on Xbox One and carry over your progress, porting across previous save files, game add-ons and your achievements. With the Handsome Collection bundling Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, that means all three Borderlands games can now be played on Xbox One.

“We are proud to support Xbox One Backward Compatibility by bringing the complete, original Borderlands to Xbox One, including all downloadable content,” said 2K President Christoph Hartmann. “We know many of our fans have put in dozens, even hundreds, of hours exploring the world of Pandora on their Xbox 360, and now they can continue their adventures on Xbox One.”

Xbox One Preview Members can play Borderlands on their Xbox One now.

  • i feel like this should have been remastered instead and included with the other 2. this and gears. it just seems lazy.
  • Just realized this game's 6 years old. Holy crap.
  • You can now play a great 360 game on an X1, quit your childish moaning.
  • Good to see the DLC is included too, hope that's the case with every BC title.
  • Where is it so I can install it on my One??
  • @ #6, u in the preview program?
  • Also will my Borderlands GOTY edition work?!
  • Yeah I'm in the preview program @7
  • Either it's not live yet or the GOTY disc doesn't work.
  • Can somebody invite me to the preview program T__T
  • Microsoft messed up my preview access, can anyone send me an invite?
  • I suppose I could send an invite to some people if they want one. Just message me on the X1, my GT is: The Grim Dealer. Don't expect to be accepted into the program though, MS made it a bit harder to get in recently.
  • @9 if You have a disc-version of borderlands, you have to use it
  • Shame I don't own this. Would have had another game to play.
  • If anyone wants an invite add me as a friend and send me a message
  • Has anyone in the program confirmed if the GOTY versions works, and are able to install all the DLC?
  • Weird coincedence, i just got borderlands gotye today & i'm in the preview program, the EXPANSION disc is NOT recognised as a playable disc but the base game disc IS recognised with the option to install when the disc is inserted.
  • No save available in the cloud :( is this because I had the DLC when I played on 360? I know this is an issue with other games but the doc is recognised on this?
  • @17 From what I recall the GOTY version just the base game with codes to download the DLC ??? Actually I'm sure it was, I remember buying a used copy and having to return it as the codes had been used.
  • @20 my gotye has 2 discs & it says "classics" on the front of the case, for me there's no point in playing it on the x1 because i can't play the dlc disc.
  • @20 My GOTY copy has 2 discs. One is the original game and the other is the DLC. I thought with the Handsome Collection selling well they would end up announcing a remastered BL1 at PAX this last weekend, but I guess not.
  • Hell yes. Great news. I love the first game. One of my favourites from last gen. In fact, slightly prefered it to the sequel.
  • the first release of the GOTY edition had the dlc as codes but was later put on a disc. the version i got came with the base game on a disc and the dlc was on a piece of paper with a code.
  • I hated the first game, and the DLC was awful, the others though are amazing.
  • Anyone know if the non-GOTY DLC discs work? I am assuming not.
  • @26 Why wouldn't regular versions of Borderlands work?
  • cant install second disc, and save wont transfer because i have goty
  • I know the PS3 servers were put back online, but are the 360s?
  • I see what I was wondering has been asked. I'll have to wait to see how the doc issues play out before I grab it.
  • @29 they never went offline.
  • You don't need to install the dlc with the extra disc that you get with the GOTY. You use the borderlands disc, and all dlc will be available no matter what version you have.
  • @2 I'd prefer backwards capabity to a remaster. If we already have the games, why buy them again? Personally, I don't actually have borderlands and am really excited for finally being able to play this on Xbox one but there are a lot of other people im sure who are glad not to have to pay for a game they already own. That said, I'm sure there are also a lot of people who agree with you.
  • @33 more achievements to boost their score. Even terrible remasters like prototype get snatched up for a double dip even though I think those games have notoriously evil achievements.
  • Hopefully when they release the program there are alot of games with it. The preview is good but wasn't a fan of too many of the games that got released at first. With all future games with gold and arcade plus dlc this is going to be pretty amazing for those who comply.
  • Hi :) Does anyone has a modded weapon and shield? I don't want to play the game "normal" again...If yes, answer here, or send we fq pls. KillerSergant
  • Can't believe I can finally play this on Xbox one!!!
