Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics have slapped a release date on Rise of the Tomb Raider’s first slice of single-player DLC, Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. You’ll be able to download the add-on from Tuesday, January 26th. Microsoft reckons the add-on will offer up “hours of additional gameplay”.

“Deep in the wilds of Siberia, there is a forbidden forest that no man will enter, where a Soviet expedition vanished without a trace,” says the blurb. “Lara enters the Wicked Vale in search of a missing man, but what she finds is a nightmare that she cannot explain. Is the witch, Baba Yaga, truly haunting the forbidden forest? Or is there more to the legend?”

“Featuring hours of gameplay and a new outfit and bow, Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch expands the story of the main campaign with Lara facing deadly new adversaries, exploring a new puzzle-filled tomb, and solving a decades old mystery, all culminating in a showdown with an ancient and mythic evil.”

Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch is available as part of the Tomb Raider season pass for $29.99. More on that here. There’s no news on an individual release price just yet, as far as I can see.

  • More story in a great game is always nice.
  • Pumping out dlc pretty quick for this to be fair.
  • Baba Yaga sounds like a Mexican bullfighter.
  • @3 Baba Yaga is a very interesting character in the Fables comic series too bad she wasn't in Wolf Among Us
  • @4 Here's hoping she's in season 2
  • Noiicceee! Really enjoying this game, the true reboot that TR deserves. Brilliant gameplay and the graphics still make my jaw drop. Fantastic environments and back drops. Tbh the only thing I don't like is really minor, but it's Lara's knock kneed walking animation and gammy right foot when she's running. I know they went for a "realistic" approach in her character design but a lot of woman do run & walk "normally" too. It makes her out to be a bit "special". Not asking for perfection, just normal, average.
  • *ah and forgot to add sorry, the mo cap is especially awesome, really does blow my mind how amazing cut scenes are now =)
  • #7 its getting to the point where some of these games have better acting than actual movies.
  • @8 It doesn't hurt either when they hire actual actors for roles :P I can't wait for this DLC to drop. I've been looking for an excuse to get back to playing this game.
  • To be honest, as an owner of both current-gen gaming machines -- Rise of the Tomb Raider is my clearcut Game of the Year. I can't say I was expecting that but I truly have loved my time with this game.
