We've just dug up a press release from Warner Brothers stating the following:

"F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, will deliver a new dimension of paranormal horror, cinematic combat and highly kinetic action with the release of new downloadable content that will be available beginning in April. The new content will include a “Toy Soldiers” map pack that will allow players to experience multiplayer from a new perspective, as well as a premium theme and picture pack."

Seems like someone flipped the DLC switch a tad bit too early.

The press release fails to give a specific date, or let us know if the content will continue to be free.

  • Now for my real comment i didnt like fear maps so hopefully these will be good PRAY nay all of us pray
  • Knew it was to good to be true.
  • How much you wanna bet it will be $10 bucks for maybe 4 maps at best. I love the idea of DLC, but most of it is a ripoff. Developers need to realize they should take six months and provide something worthwhile for us to pay extra for.
  • I totally agree with number one
  • @2 lol epic fail then tries to act cool in comment 4 tw*t looks good more fear cant be a bad thing just dont charge for it!!
  • Dang, wish I had gotten these for free. Hopefully they will remain that way, but somehow I'm doubting it.
  • awsum
  • What a damn joke. If anything they should be adding instant action maps. Just because the asshat devs decided to throw in a bunch of stupid and incredibly time consuming MP achievements into their half assed MP doesn't mean anyone is going to play it. Some shitty new maps won't change that.
  • the premium theme and the picture pack are definite signs that this is gonna cost money. its like they leave out some content purposely so they can charge you for it later via DLC. beautiful katamari got away with it and so have other games. hell far cry even released the most b.s. DLC ever before deciding to fix the save problem they had with that game (which still hasn't been fixed i'm pretty sure). Games like Oblivion, Fallout, GTA IV, and Fable 2 have the right idea with DLC. Games Like Halo and Gears of War that charge you for like 3 or 4 new multiplayer maps are pretty much ripping us off but games that pull the old "here's 75% of the game and for another 10-20 bucks we'll give you the rest of it" scam should be kicked in their balls. sorry about the rant...
  • @ 9... "Just because the asshat devs decided to throw in a bunch of stupid and incredibly time consuming MP achievements into their half assed MP doesn't mean anyone is going to play it. Some shitty new maps won't change that." amen! i'm tired of beating a game and getting only a handful of achievement points only to discover that most of the points need to be earned online. I Hate Multiplayer Achievements!!!
  • @8 While I agree with ALMOST everything you said, I can't agree with the Halo bit. Halo is THE multiplayer game for the Xbox franchise. Without Halo, there would be no Xbox, it would have died faster than the Atari Jaguar.(Plus Halo never came out with maps less than a month after release *stares at GoW2*)
  • I would go as far to say that most DLC ends up being parts of the game that they didn't get to include in the final cut. They just take all the pieces they couldn't use, tape them together and sell them hoping we'll all buy them. :)
  • LOL @#11. So stupid.
  • i have those maps they are pretty good
  • Huh, I already have it downloaded. Wonder what that'll do.
  • Too bad the multiplayer in FEAR 2 sucks balls. Honestly the worst MP I've ever played.
  • 11 is right on the money imo
  • what a joke they could have released these with the game, it just shows what dlc has become A RIP OFF!
  • The first game cost damn near $100 just to get all the shit to complete the package. I think if your multiplayer can't compete with Halo, COD4, etc. then maybe it's a seriously bad idea to charge for map packs.
  • @13 how's that stupid? makes perfect sense that halo helped make multiplayer gaming what it is today. whatever, i played fear 2 online and i don't think the DLC will be able to make up for the lack of enjoyment this game supplied me. definitely won't be getting it!
  • Seems to me this is just a move from Monolith to try and reignite the already dying F.E.A.R 2 Multiplayer base. Still, it might give a few of those crazy people who want the 1m xp another chance :P
  • I think it's been removed now, it's all crossed out on Major Nelson's 'blog': http://tinyurl.com/a9jcyv
  • http://www.rewards1.com/index.php?referrer_id=84088 this is the BEST way to get free microsoft points and gold cards. I got 1 month card in a day.
  • Give it to us for free. It's not like alot of people are playing this anyway..
  • I might pick up FEAR 2 in late May or perhaps mid-June. No rush. There are way too many epic games to play right now to even bother. (Halo Wars, SF4, and RE5)
  • So if people downloaded these maps before hand, do they get to keep them?
  • @25 save your money and rent it the MP will be dead by then if its not already, and the single player campaign didn't keep me entertained past the 4th level.
  • @8 Don't you understand Epic needs the money to fix there terrible multiplayer. Thats why they only give us 75% of the game. Who hasn't realized by now that Epic just can't get multiplayer right for GOW2. Halo on the other hand is completely different where as they spend months on there maps. ( Not that i'm a fan boy for Halo but mainly gears. Epic is just making all of us sad with there... broken...ness? )
  • i want this!
  • if anything, they should announce double EXP weekends because nobody other than boosters would play Fear 2's multiplayer that much with CoD, Halo and whatnot out there
  • i got this when it was on, i was hoping for the WaW map pack....
