Halo Wars 2: Could Cross-Play Between Xbox One and Windows 10 Happen in the Future? - Video Interview

Richard Walker

Halo Wars 2 has been a long time coming, but early next year it'll finally be arriving on Xbox One and Windows 10 as a Play Anywhere title, a full eight years after the first game launched on Xbox 360. A collaborative effort between 343 Industries and Creative Assembly, there's a lot going into ensuring the sequel is an RTS that lives up to expectations.

We caught up with Executive Producer Graeme Jennings to have a quick chat about Halo Wars 2, asking how cross-play could possibly be integrated between Xbox One and Windows 10 in the future, as well as how the team is planning to make this an accessible and easy to pick up real-time strategy with the requisite depth players demand from the genre.

Check out our interview with Jennings below for some insights into Halo Wars 2, which is due to release for Xbox One and Windows 10 on 21st February 2017. Before then, there'll be a second beta for players to take part in too. For more on Halo Wars 2, give our preview a read here.

  • Sony says it'll think about it.
  • i just going to say i dont think a rts is the right type of game for cross play the people on pc will have unfair avagne
  • @2 Maybe.. But they are using Windows 10 so it washes out.
  • PC players will no doubt have an advantage due to having better controls for RTS, but I think they should make it an option that you can turn on/off in matchmaking. At the very least it should be allowed in private games. It would be nice to be able to play with my Xbox friends while I'm on my PC.
  • I just think cross play should be a thing for coop. Being able to play the coop campaign with my friend on console would be awesome. And since it's coop, I wouldn't care that there are differences in the controls between us.
  • I played halo wars religiously since release. Still play it a lot to this day. PC won't have a lot of advantage. Since controller has a lot of shortcuts. Not much advantage TBH.
  • @6 Have you never played an RTS on a PC? The entire keyboard is covered in shortcuts for things...
  • people always go on about better controlls but i still wonder why they dont just add mouse and keyboard support to these consoles. they are essentially pcs anyway
  • If co-op cross play with PC is a feature, this becomes a day 1 buy for me.
