Overwatch's Next Event Revolves Around The In-Game Omnic Crisis, Supposedly Launches Early April

Historically, Overwatch's events have all been tied to real-world events: we've had events celebrating the Olympics, Chinese New Year, Halloween and Christmas... but now it looks like we're about to witness our first in-universe event based on the so-called Omnic Crisis.

In the Overwatch Universe, April 11th was the start of the King's Row Uprising, where omnics turned on their human allies and the backstory to Overwatch's Omnic Crisis kicked off proper.

“We’ve heard the call that a lot of players want a non-real-world-tied event, meaning they want some sort of set event in the Overwatch world,” game director Jeff Kaplan stated in an interview with PCGamesN. "The event is going to be something – when players see the event and play the event, I think they’ll see that we’ve been listening to their feedback.

“I think [fans] want to know more about what’s going on between omnics and humans in this world and how did we get there. I think a lot of that will be answered for them.”

This seems to be the direct result of fans asking Blizzard to add more information about the game's lore into the title - it seems we aren't going to be disappointed.

The Omnic Crisis kicked off on April 11th in-universe, but we don't know what date Blizzard plans to launch its event: we'll keep you updated as more information is revealed.

  • Hopefully it's another co-op mode. I really enjoyed Junkenstein despite it being so quick, and it would be cool to see the pve/story stuff get more fleshed out.
