Chet Faliszek, the writer behind Left 4 Dead, Portal and Half-Life 2, has departed Valve after 12 years. His most recent role was as the company's VR ambassador, and as such was the public face of Valve for many developers. Faliszek had been a strong advocate for virtual reality, and the opportunities it creates for storytelling.
He's perhaps best-known for penning Half-Life 2's episodes and both Portal games, as well as Left 4 Dead and its sequel. It's a shame then that he won't be around for Half-Life 3, if that ever happens. Faliszek didn't tell GamesIndustry.biz - to whom he broke the news of his departure - what he'll be doing next.
"[It was] Nothing exciting or drama filled," he told the site of his decision to leave Valve. "I worked there 12 years, shipped a bunch of great games and some amazing hardware and wanted to change things up. There's no news on what's next etc, I will let you know when that happens."
We wish Faliszek all the best in his future endeavours.
