Assassin's Creed Origins Isn't "Reinventing" Concepts, But Should Feel "Unique" - Video Interview

Yes, we've been going pretty hard on the Assassin's Creed Origins videos of late, but with the series taking a year out, the game heralding an array of changes to the formula and the release date looming large on the horizon, it's hard for us not to get just a little bit excited.

Going big on the RPG elements and the dynamism of its open-world, it's difficult not to see Origins as something of a reinvention for Assassin's Creed, but that's not entirely the case, according to Game Director Ashraf Ismail. There's a lot of new stuff, for sure, but there are aspects of AC that are never going to change.

We discussed all of this with Ismail, while finding out other nuggets of information on taming hippos, filling the biggest Assassin's Creed map with meaningful content, and loads more. Check out our full interview below. Assassin's Creed Origins launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 27th October.

  • As a massive fan from the start, i’ve played them all & am happy with this. I know the series needed changes, as the engine & gameplay elements were getting a little stale in parts (although Syndicate was really enjoyable), but i’m glad it’s not lost its identity at heart. Have it use RPG Elements etc, as series like The Witcher have become massively successful because of it, but come October 27th, I know i’ll notice a big difference, but the fact i’ll still spot those familiar touches a lot of us have come to know and love, makes me happy. I can’t wait for Origins.
  • Yeah I agree #1 definitely looks promising. I wasn't a big fan of Unity & I haven't actually played Syndicate (though I intend to) this looks great the storyline (origin of the Assassin Brotherhood & War with the templars), Egyptian setting, & redesigned gameplay mechanics. It's all very exciting. Can't wait.
  • Massive fan, loved the game but Odyssey is better. Would have ben good for an older Egyptian setting...
