Hi-Rez Studios has announced that Paladins will be getting a new Battle Royale mode which will be a mashup of a hero-shooter combined with the style of a battle royale type game.

Paladins: Battlegrounds combines ability-driven combat with survival gameplay having players spawn into a map which is 300 times the size of a normal Paladins' Siege map. Heroes will be able to hop onto their mounts and start exploring the map, looting all sorts of gear to take on other players.

“Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team, Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match,” said Todd Harris, Executive Producer of Paladins.

Paladins is the latest game to jump on the Battle Royale bandwagon along with Fortnite and with the increasing popularity of these type of games it'd come as no surprise if more titles this year decided to release a similar battle royale mode themselves.

You can check out the announcement trailer for Paladins: Battlegrounds below which will be heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later this year.

  • This could be interesting
  • Since this is already out and F2P. Is it any good?
  • @2 I tried it a few months back. I wasn't impressed, felt like a poor mans Overwatch, even had characters that looked and played eerily similar to Overwatch. That said I have been wanting to give it another try, maybe this this will the excuse I'm looking for.
  • This is the first Battle Royale band-wagon jump that just sounds like it's going to be awful. I honestly cant see this working in any way. @2 It was...ok. Not great, but not terrible. Completely average in every sense of the word.
  • @2 i love this game i mean its f2p so def check it out @2 overwatch is over rated Plaladins is far better the characters are unique and even if there are 2 of the same characters in a mattch they both will be different because of the card system
  • My friends were talking about it coming to Overwatch. Now Paladins is doing it, maybe they will. @2 I've heard Hi Rez are slowly killing the game by trying to milk money out of people for things like skins or the VIP system while being really slow with releasing actual content
  • I'd be keen to try this. Given everyone's abilities, it could turn out to be a lot of fun.
  • I prefer Paladins over Overwatch. The card system combined with the loadouts allow me to have gameplay effecting customization and variety. This Battle Royal looks interesting yet worrisome, but Battle Royal isnt really for me. @6 Yeah, Hi-Rez is starting to lean on a more costly F2P model which sucks but the game is still enjoyable.
  • Paladins is what I would consider a perfect example of a game that is average. I've played it a lot. This mode could be interesting. But I'm curious as to how people like this more than overwatch. Neither game is perfect. But this game is the poor man's version. I've never felt like the card system really plays much of a role. And the characters are wildly unbalanced. Of the hundreds of matches I've played, I've consistently seen the same few heroes. Because it's that obvious to tell which heroes are best. But the part I never understood, is why you can't change heroes after initial selection. Really removed a lot of the strategy.
