Prince of Persia creator, Jordan Mechner, recently responded to tweet revealing that he, along with others who have worked on the franchise, hope to resurrect it for a new generation.

TV host Chrissy Teigen posted on Twitter asking whether Prince of Persia was still around as she was a fan of the series. Mechner promptly responded saying "Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way. We're doing our best to make it happen!".

It's been a long time since we've seen Prince of Persia with the latest release being the 2013 iOS game 'Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame' and the last console release being the 2010 'Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands'. Since then the Prince of Persia franchise has been very dormant but with Mechner working on reviving it, we could potentially see another game hit current-gen consoles.

  • I really liked the cel shaded one from 2008. Don't know why that one never got followed up.
  • Maybe a remaster collection like was done with Bioshock, Prototype, Rare Replay?
  • I also loved the cell shaded one. In fairness all the ‘sands of time’ ones and the cell shaded were cracking. I’d love a new one!
  • Prince of Persia: Sands of Lootboxes (Hopefully) just kidding :) I have not really played the last games, but the PS2 games were awesome. Something like them would be welcome. But the early games had some difficulty, where you had to learn certain passages and timings. It would be great to see the return of this, many games are too easy to beat today. The Cel-shading games was too easy as well, I believe there was no death or game over (I played it for 2 hours or so).
  • I would love to see a new one! I'd be all over a remake too. Love these games.
  • I'd love to see a new one like Prince of Persia Classic. I'm still sad Shadow & Flame only got released on phones...
  • @1 the brilliant cel-shaded POP 2008 didn't get a follow-up because gamers wrote it off as "too easy" because there was a misunderstanding that because you couldn't die, you couldn't fail. My friend who thought that if you had a series of 10 jumps/wall runs/swings, and you missed the 9th one, the game would auto-complete and you'd still succeed. I explained that the "no die" mechanic simply meant that if you failed the 9th jump, you'd start right before the 1st jump with no loading in-between. The game still required timing and precision, and the world was absolutely beautiful and a joy to traverse.
  • Yeah! More Prince of Persia would be a great thing, I've loved every PoP game I've ever played (even Forgotten Sands was okay in terms of gameplay, though its story was a pale shadow of the trilogy) just so long as the words open-world, edgy, movie-tie-in, historical accuracy, or realism are not involved in any way. Also, how about getting warrior within and two thrones on original xbox bc?
  • @#8 would love to seem them bring it back for OG xbox BC but would also like to see the last two retail release titles brought back for 360 back compat.
  • I would love to see a remake of The Sands of Time.
  • Reboot it by remaking the SoT Trilogy in 4K and HDR please :)
  • Another vote for the awesome cel shaded game. I liked it the best.
  • Sands of Time was by far the best one. I really hope they remaster that one day.
  • That would be awesome. A game like POP is needed today. And please start where you left off... “To Be Continued”
