E-Line Media has announced Beyond Blue, the spiritual follow-up to Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna), an underwater experience that has you diving deep into vast and largely uncharted ocean, to interact with some of the big blue's most intelligent and amazing creatures.
Set in the near future, in Beyond Blue you play as Mirai, leading a new research team using groundbreaking tech to "see, hear, and sense" the ocean in a "more meaningful way" than ever before. The game promises a "rich" storyline, as well as resource management, putting the decision as to which objectives you can successfully achieve with each expedition, in your hands.
Beyond Blue will use the same "inclusive" development process used in making Never Alone, consulting leading ocean experts in creating the game, asking each scientist how they would use their time in the briny depths if they had technology that had advanced by 10-15 years. "We found their answers fascinating and the game has emerged as a way to channel these visions into what we hope will be an atmospheric and moving experience," said E-Line CEO Michael Angst.
As you progress, you'll also unlock Ocean Insight videos, with underwater footage taken from BBC Studios' Blue Planet II production, including never before seen footage. You'll also get videos featuring real-world ocean researchers, offering insight into the future of ocean exploration as depicted in Beyond Blue.
Beyond Blue will be taking the plunge when it launches for consoles and PC in early 2019. Check out the teaser trailer below.
